    Two body final states production in electron-positron annihilation and their contributions to (g2)μ(g-2)_{\mu}

    Full text link
    In this paper, we study the processes of e+ee^{+}e^{-} annihilation into two body final states, either two pseudoscalar mesons or one meson with a photon. The hadronic vacuum polarization form factors are calculated within the framework of resonance chiral theory in the energy region of E2E \lesssim 2 GeV, with final state interactions taken into account. A joint analysis on the processes of e+eπ+πe^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}, K+KK^{+}K^{-}, KL0KS0K_{L}^{0}K_{S}^{0}, π0γ\pi^{0}\gamma, and ηγ\eta\gamma has been performed, and the latest experimental data are included. Based on the vacuum polarization form factors of these processes, we estimate their contributions to the lowest order of anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, (g2)μ(g-2)_\mu. Combined with other contributions from hadronic vacuum polarization and other interactions from the standard model, the discrepancy between theoretical prediction and experimental measurement is Δaμ=(24.1±5.4)×1010\Delta a_{\mu}=(24.1\pm5.4)\times 10^{-10}, i.e., 4.5σ\sigma.Comment: 45 pages, 6 figures, to be the same as the published versio

    Excited Heavy Quarkonium Production at the LHC through WW-Boson Decays

    Full text link
    Sizable amount of heavy-quarkonium events can be produced through WW-boson decays at the LHC. Such channels will provide a suitable platform to study the heavy-quarkonium properties. The "improved trace technology", which disposes the amplitude M{\cal M} at the amplitude-level, is helpful for deriving compact analytical results for complex processes. As an important new application, in addition to the production of the lower-level Fock states (QQˉ)[1S]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[1S]> and (QQˉ)[1P]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[1P]>, we make a further study on the production of higher-excited (QQˉ)>|(Q\bar{Q'})>-quarkonium Fock states (QQˉ)[2S]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[2S]>, (QQˉ)[3S]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[3S]> and (QQˉ)[2P]>|(Q\bar{Q'})[2P]>. Here (QQˉ)>|(Q\bar{Q'})> stands for the (ccˉ)>|(c\bar{c})>-charmonium, (cbˉ)>|(c\bar{b})>-quarkonium and (bbˉ)>|(b\bar{b})>-bottomonium respectively. We show that sizable amount of events for those higher-excited states can also be produced at the LHC. Therefore, we need to take them into consideration for a sound estimation.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures and 6 tables. Typo errors are corrected, more discussions and two new figures have been adde

    Optimized Design on the Width and Spacing of the Cross Passageway in Tunnels

    AbstractCross passageways have been commonly applied in the evacuation system of tunnels, and the width and spacing of the cross passageways decide the evacuation capacity of the tunnel. In design, increasing the width of the cross passageways and reducing their spacing can improve the evacuation ability of tunnels. However, it will certainly increase the cost of the project. Under the precondition of meeting evacuation requirements, an optimization model was established in this article, which aimed at reducing the cost of the project. Finally, discussions on the application of this optimization model were carried on, and this method may provide reference for designing cross passageways

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Tumor Protein p53 (p53), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (p21/WAF1), and murine double minute 2 (MDM2) participate in the regulation of cell growth. Altered expression of these gene products has been found in malignant tumors and has been associated with poor prognosis. Our aim was to investigate the expression of the 3 proteins in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and their prognostic significance.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We examined p53, p21/WAF1, and MDM2 expression in 181 pairs of HCC tissues and the adjacent hepatic tissues by performing immunohistochemistry and examined the expression of the 3 proteins in 7 pairs of HCC tissues and the adjacent hepatic tissues by using western blot analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The expression of p53, p21/WAF1, and MDM2 in the HCC tissues was significantly higher than those in the adjacent hepatic tissues (<it>P </it>< 0.05). A statistical correlation was observed between p53 and p21/WAF1 expression in HCC tissues (R = 0.195, <it>P </it>= 0.008). A statistical correlation was observed between expression of p53 and p21/WAF1 (R = 0.380, <it>P </it>= 0.000), p53 and MDM2 (R = 0.299, <it>P </it>= 0.000), p21/WAF1 and MDM2 (R = 0.285, <it>P </it>= 0.000) in 181 liver tissues adjacent to the tumor. Patients with a low pathologic grade HCC (I+II) had a higher tendency to express p53 on tumor cells than the patients with high pathologic grade HCC (III+IV) (<it>P </it>= 0.007). Survival analysis showed that positive p21/WAF1 expression or/and negative MDM2 expression in HCC was a predictor of better survival of patients after tumor resection (<it>P </it>< 0.05).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The proteins p53, p21/WAF1, and MDM2 were overexpressed in all the HCC cases in this study, and p53 and p21/WAF1 overexpression were positively correlated. The expression of p21/WAF1 and MDM2 can be considered as 2 useful indicators for predicting the prognosis of HCC.</p

    Traditional Chinese medicine combined with hormone therapy to treat premature ovarian failure: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    Background: This meta-analysis aimed to provide critically estimated evidence for the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese herbal medicines used for premature ovarian failure (POF), which could provide suggestions for rational treatments.Materials and Methods: The databases searched included MEDLINE, EMBASE, CNKI, VIP, China Dissertation Database, China Important Conference Papers Database, and online clinical trial registry websites. Published and unpublished randomized controlled trials of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with hormone therapy (HT) and HT alone for POF were assessed up to December 30, 2015. Two authors extracted data and assessed trial quality independently using Cochrane systematic review methods. Meta-analysis was used to quantitatively describe serum hormone levels and Kupperman scores associated with perimenopause symptoms.Results: Seventeen randomized controlled trials involving 1352 participants were selected. Compared with HT alone, although no significant effects were observed in the levels of luteinizing hormone, therapy with TCM combined with HT compared to HT alone effectively altered serum hormone levels of follicle stimulating hormone (P&lt;0.01) and estradiol (P &lt; 0.01), and improved Kupperman index scores (P&lt; 0.01).Conclusions: The reported favorable effects of TCM combined with HT for treating POF patients are better than HT alone.However,the beneficial effects derived from this combination therapy cannot be viewed conclusive.In order to better support the clinical use, more rigorously designed trials are required to provide.Keywords: Traditional Chinese medicine, Hormone therapy, Premature ovarian failure, Meta-analysi

    In order to study the effects of the compound preservatives (curcumin and piperine (CP)) and vacuum packaging (VP) on the quality of salmon during cold chain logistics suffered from temperature abuse, the physiochemical indexes (texture, water holding capacity (WHC), total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), free amino acids (FAA) contents), microbial indicators (total mesophilic bacteria count (MBC), total psychrotrophic bacteria count (PBC), H2S-producing bacteria count (HSBC)) were determined, and the moisture changes were explored by near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR). The results showed that the treatment of curcumin and piperine in combination with vacuum packaging could maintain the quality of salmon suffered from temperature abuse most effectively. At the end of storage, the MBC of VP+CP was only 4.95 log CFU/g, which was about 1 log CFU/g lower than the control sample stored at the same condition. The combined treatment also retarded the increase of TVB-N, TBARS, and the decrease of hardness, springiness, and a* value, as well as water migration in salmon, contributing to higher water holding capacity and better appearance. Besides, VP+CP retarded the decrease of free glutamate, which contributed to umami taste. Due to the biological activity and safety of the preserves, the combined treatment could be a promising method for preservation of seafood.Peer reviewe

    Beneficial Effect of the Traditional Chinese Drug Shu-Xue-Tong on Recovery of Spinal Cord Injury in the Rat

    Get PDF
    Shu-Xue-Tong (SXT) is a traditional Chinese drug widely used to ameliorate stagnation of blood flow, such as brain or myocardial infarction. Whether SXT may have therapeutic value for spinal cord injury (SCI), during which ischemia plays an important role in its pathology, remains to be elucidated. We hypothesized that SXT may promote SCI healing by improving spinal cord blood flow (SCBF), and a study was thus designed to explore this possibility. Twenty-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. SCI was induced by compression, and SXT was administrated 24 h postinjury for 14 successive days. The effects of SXT were assessed by means of laser-Doppler flowmetry, motor functional analysis (open-field walking and footprint analysis), and histological analysis (hematoxylin-eosin and thionin staining and NeuN immunohistochemistry). SXT significantly promoted SCBF of the contused spinal cord and enhanced the recovery of motor function. Histological analysis indicated that the lesion size was reduced, the pathological changes were ameliorated, and more neurons were preserved. Based on these results we conclude that SXT can effectively improve SCI
