The histogenesis of endometriosis and endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer is one of the most mysterious aspects of pathology. To better understand the histogenesis of endometriosis and endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer, we analyzed the possibility of a link of endometrium, ovarian surface epithelium, and a cortical inclusion cyst to ovarian endometriosis and endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer by immunohistochemistry using the epithelial membrane antigen (an epithelial marker), calretinin (a mesothelial marker), and hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF)-1β (a clear cell carcinoma-specific transcription factor). During ovarian surface epithelium invagination, cortical inclusion cyst epithelial cells may, in some cases, undergo mesothelial–epithelial transition and subsequently differentiate into endometriosis. This case of endometriosis that has undergone Müllerian metaplasia arises from the HNF-1β-negative cells. The remaining endometriosis may develop from the late secretory and menstrual endometria, with HNF-1β-positive staining, by retrograde menstruation. Endometrioid adenocarcinoma and clear cell carcinoma arise from the HNF-1β-negative and HNF-1β-positive epithelial cells of endometriosis, respectively. It has been proposed that clear cell and endometrioid-type adenocarcinomas arise from distinct types of endometriosis with different cells of origin.博士(医学)・乙第1309号・平成25年3月15日©2012 International Society of Gynecological Pathologist

Asymmetric Seasonal March from Autumn to the next Spring around Japan (At the Viewpoint of Development of Interdisciplinary Class on the Climate Environment and the Seasonal Feeling)

    Get PDF
The present study is a part of the activity to develop an interdisciplinary class on the climate environment around the Japan Islands and the “seasonal feeling” there, with attention to the relation to the phase difference among seasonal marches of the Asian monsoon subsystems. As an interesting example for that, we compared detailed features from autumn to midwinter with those from midwinter to spring around the Japan Islands, with focus on the asymmetric seasonal march between them. Comparison of “seasonal feeling” expressed in the Japanese classic poems called “Wa-Ka” and in the Japanese artistic songs between those seasons was made, at the viewpoint of the above asymmetric seasonal march

Polymorphic Microsatellite Loci in the Independent-founding Wasp Polists versicolor (Hymenoptera: Vespidae)

Microsatellite primers developed for a given species are sometimes useful for another in the same genus, making possible to search for pre-existing suitable primers in the data banks such as GenBank. We examined whether existing primers developed for Polistes wasps could be used for the independent-founding wasp Polistes versicolor. We tested 50 microsatellite primers from three Polistes species and found that five microsatellite loci show polymorphism in size in P. versicolor. These five loci were highly polymorphic, having four to 10 alleles in P. versicolor with an expected heterozygosity of 0.530–0.836. These loci can be used to study parameters concerning genetic relatedness such as social interactions in colonies and genetic conflicts of interest among nestmate individuals

SHIFT OF AXIAL POSITION FOR ROTATION AT THE INTERVERTEBRAL JOINT IN DOGS

To elucidate whether the position of axis for rotation at the intervertebral joint is related with the spinal curvature, the authors investigated the spinal columns of beagles. The spinal column of beagle was composed of 7 cervical, 13 thoracic, 7 lumbar, 3 sacral, and 19 coccygeal vertebrae. It was observed that the position of axis for rotation at the intervertebral joint was shifted on the superior and inferior views of the 2nd thoracic vertebra and was next shifted on the superior and inferior views of the 10th thoracic vertebra. It was suggested that in the case of beagle and Wistar rat with 13 thoracic vertebrae, the upper shift of axial position for rotation at the intervertebral joint occurred on the superior and inferior views of the 2nd thoracic vertebra and the lower shift of axial position for rotation at the intervertebral joint occurred on the superior and inferior views of the 10th thoracic vertebra

Fulminant Marginal Keratitis Induced by Atezolizumab, a Programmed Death Ligand 1 Inhibitor for Lung Cancer

Introduction: With the increasing use of immune checkpoint inhibitors, ocular adverse events have gained attention. We describe a case of atypical keratitis presumably induced by atezolizumab, a programmed cell death ligand 1 inhibitor. Case Presentation: A 73-year-old Japanese woman developed ring-shaped marginal infiltrations with epithelial breakdown of the corneas in both eyes. The patient had advanced small cell lung cancer and had received intravenous carboplatin, etoposide, and atezolizumab. She was treated with topical administration of 0.1% sodium phosphate betamethasone and 0.5% moxifloxacin six times daily. On day 14 following initial presentation, marked reduction of bilateral corneal infiltration was observed. During the succeeding cycles of chemotherapy, marginal keratitis did not recur, and then, the topical steroid was gradually tapered. Conclusions: Cancer immunotherapy, including atezolizumab, may lead to active T-cell recruitment into the cornea, which result in autoimmune corneal keratitis. We believe that this report is informative to both ophthalmologists and oncologists involved in the treatment of patients receiving cancer immunotherapy

    宇多野コーポラティブハウス ―「集まって, 心地よく, 永く住む」ための集住のあり方―

Utano Co-operative Housing is a new collective housing, upholding the co-existence with historical scenes of Kyoto as its background, suggesting a new idea for aggregating openly, living comfortably and dwelling for a long time. On unadjusted land, plural houses were located and dispersed, using "Ichidanchi"-a rule allowing several buildings to be built in a parcel of land-, and the existing landscapes and trees were preserved. By adopting a co-operative system and skeleton-infill leasehold system and keeping the basic standard of long-term durable good quality housing, a self-sustainable Iiving environment with consciousness toward dweller\u27s life-cycle was created here. This project suggests a model of long-term collective housing by using the potential of this location and exploiting the advantage of various systems through their combination

Collection and Analysis of Japanese Terms on Texture of Cooked Rice

    Get PDF
One hundred and ten Japanese terms on texture of cooked rice were collected from 229 young females (mean age: 20. 2 years). General terms, which were used by many subjects, were rare. Only 7 terms were used by more than 20 subjects; these 7 terms can be regarded as general terms. Among these 7 terms, two terms, which are antonyms each another, express hardness of the cooked rice. Two of the 7 terms express unsuitable moisture level in a cooked rice; lack and excess of moisture, respectively. Three of the 9 terms express suitable stickiness/elasticity/adhesiveness, fluffiness and temperature, which are made by suitable moisture level.報
