    CORRELATION BETWEEN PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT AND LONELINESS AMONG CHINESE ADOLESCENTS: MEDIATING EFFECTS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPITAL

    Background: Adolescence is a period characterized by high frequency of mental health problems. Loneliness, in particular, is a common psychological problem. This study aims to explore the effects of psychological capital on adolescents’ loneliness and the mediating effects of perceived social support. Subjects and methods: A total of 694 adolescents from six regions in Hunan Province, China were selected. The survey was conducted using the Perceived Social Support Scale, Loneliness Scale, and Psychological Capital Questionnaire. The study analyzed the correlations between perceived social support, psychological capital, and loneliness among adolescents and the mediating role of psychological capital in the relationship between perceived social support and loneliness. Results: Significant correlations were observed between adolescents’ total scores in perceived social support, psychological capital, and loneliness and between each dimension. The following observations were made: a significant negative correlation between perceived social support and loneliness (r= 0.440, P<0.01), a significant positive correlation between perceived social support and psychological capital (r=0.493, P<0.01), and a significant negative correlation between psychological capital and loneliness (r=-0.303, P<0.01). Psychological capital plays a statistically significant mediating role on the relationship between perceived social support and loneliness (P<0.01). Conclusions: Perceived social support and psychological capital can reduce adolescents’ loneliness and perceived social support can alleviate loneliness by enhancing psychological capital

    EFFECTS OF EXERCISE DEPENDENCE ON PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF CHINESE COLLEGE STUDENTS

    Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise dependence on the psychological health of Chinese college students. Subjects and methods: A total of 1601 college students from three universities in Hunan, China, were selected as research subjects. Several measurement scales, including the Exercise Addiction Inventory, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, and the Subjective Well-being Scale, were used to survey the psychological health problem of these students and to analyze the effects of exercise dependence on their psychological health. Result: Exercise dependence, based on the structural equation model analysis, can positively influence state anxiety (P<0.05), depression (P<0.05), and subjective well-being (P<0.05) of Chinese students. By contrast, exercise dependence negatively influences students’ self-satisfaction (P<0.05), social behavior (P<0.05), and vigor (P<0.05). Conclusion: Exercise dependence adversely affects the psychological health of college students. Further research using multidimensional exercise addiction scales should be conducted to identify all the negative effects of exercise addiction factors on psychological health

    MEDIATOR EFFECTS OF POSITIVE EMOTIONS ON SOCIAL SUPPORT AND DEPRESSION AMONG ADOLESCENTS SUFFERING FROM MOBILE PHONE ADDICTION

    Background: Depression is a common mental disorder that is widely seen among adolescents suffering from mobile phone addiction. While it is well known that both positive emtions in adolescents wiotions and social support can have a positive impact by helping individuals to maintain a positive attitude, the correlation between positive emotions, social support, and depression among these adolescents remains to be investigated. This study examined the mediator effects of positive emotions on the relationship between social support and depression among adolescents suffering from mobile phone addiction. Subjects and methods: For this study, conducted in 2016, we selected 1,346 adolescent students from three middle schools (ranging from Junior Grade One to Senior Grade Three) in Hunan Province of China, to participate in the survey. Participants were selected using the stratified cluster random sampling method, and all participants remained anonymous throughout the study. Each participant completed the Self-made General Situation Questionnaire, the Social Support Rating Scale, the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, and the Mobile Phone Addiction Tendency Scale. Results: There was significant positive correlation between positive emotions and social support. Both positive emotions and social support demonstrated significant negative correlation with depression. Positive emotions had partial mediator effects on the relationship between social support and depression (P<0.01). Conclusions: Both social support and positive emotions can lower levels of depression among adolescents suffering from mobile phone addiction. Social support contributes to positive emoth mobile phone addiction, thereby reducing their levels of depression. These findings suggest that more support and care should be given to this particular adolescent population

    API Usage Recommendation via Multi-View Heterogeneous Graph Representation Learning

    Developers often need to decide which APIs to use for the functions being implemented. With the ever-growing number of APIs and libraries, it becomes increasingly difficult for developers to find appropriate APIs, indicating the necessity of automatic API usage recommendation. Previous studies adopt statistical models or collaborative filtering methods to mine the implicit API usage patterns for recommendation. However, they rely on the occurrence frequencies of APIs for mining usage patterns, thus prone to fail for the low-frequency APIs. Besides, prior studies generally regard the API call interaction graph as homogeneous graph, ignoring the rich information (e.g., edge types) in the structure graph. In this work, we propose a novel method named MEGA for improving the recommendation accuracy especially for the low-frequency APIs. Specifically, besides call interaction graph, MEGA considers another two new heterogeneous graphs: global API co-occurrence graph enriched with the API frequency information and hierarchical structure graph enriched with the project component information. With the three multi-view heterogeneous graphs, MEGA can capture the API usage patterns more accurately. Experiments on three Java benchmark datasets demonstrate that MEGA significantly outperforms the baseline models by at least 19% with respect to the Success Rate@1 metric. Especially, for the low-frequency APIs, MEGA also increases the baselines by at least 55% regarding the Success Rate@1

    A CRM1 Inhibitor Alleviates Cardiac Hypertrophy and Increases the Nuclear Distribution of NT-PGC-1α in NRVMs

    Chromosomal maintenance 1 (CRM1) inhibitors display antihypertrophic effects and control protein trafficking between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. PGC-1α (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1alpha) is a type of transcriptional coactivator that predominantly resides in the nucleus and is downregulated during heart failure. NT-PGC-1α is an alternative splicing variant of PGC-1α that is primarily distributed in the cytoplasm. We hypothesized that the use of a CRM1 inhibitor could shuttle NT-PGC-1α into the nucleus and activate PGC-1α target genes to potentially improve cardiac function in a mouse model of myocardial infarction (MI). We showed that PGC-1α and NT-PGC-1α were decreased in MI-induced heart failure mice. Phenylephrine and angiotensin II were applied to induce hypertrophy in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs). The antihypertrophic effects of the CRM1-inhibitor Selinexor was verified through profiling the expression of β-MHC and through visualizing the cell cross-sectional area. NRVMs were transfected with adenovirus-NT-PGC-1α or adenovirus-NLS (nucleus localization sequence)-NT-PGC-1α and then exposed to Selinexor. Confocal microscopy was then used to observe the shuttling of NT-PGC-1α. After NT-PGC-1α was shuttled into the nucleus, there was increased expression of its related genes, including PPAR-α, Tfam, ERR-γ, CPT1b, PDK4, and Nrf2. The effects of Selinexor on post-MI C57BL/6j mice were determined by echocardiography and qPCR. We found that Selinexor showed antihypertrophic effects but did not influence the ejection fraction of MI-mice. Interestingly, the antihypertrophic effects of Selinexor might be independent of NT-PGC-1α transportation

    Mitofusin 2 Participates in Mitophagy and Mitochondrial Fusion Against Angiotensin II-Induced Cardiomyocyte Injury

    BackgroundMitochondrial dynamics play a critical role in mitochondrial function. The mitofusin 2 (MFN2) gene encodes a mitochondrial membrane protein that participates in mitochondrial fusion to maintain and operate the mitochondrial network. Moreover, MFN2 is essential for mitophagy. In Ang II-induced cardiac remodeling, the combined effects of MFN2-mediated mitochondrial fusion and mitophagy are unclear. This study was designed to explore a novel strategy for preventing cardiomyocyte injury via modulation of mitochondrial dynamics.MethodsWe studied the function of MFN2 in mitochondrial fusion and mitophagy in Ang II-stimulated cardiomyocyte injury. Cardiomyocyte injury experiments, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and apoptosis rate of cardiomyocytes were performed. The mitochondrial morphology in cardiomyocytes was examined via transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and confocal microscopy. Autophagic levels in response to Ang II were examined by immunoblotting of autophagy-related proteins. Moreover, PINK1/MFN2/Parkin pathway-related proteins were examined.ResultsWith stimulation by Ang II, MFN2 expression was progressively reduced. MFN2 deficiency impaired mitochondrial quality, resulting in exacerbated mitochondrial damage induced by Ang II. The Ang II-induced increases in ROS production and apoptosis rate were alleviated by MFN2 overexpression. Moreover, MFN2 alleviated the Ang II-induced reduction in MMP. MFN2 promoted mitochondrial fusion, and MFN2 promoted Parkin translocation and phosphorylation, leading to mitochondrial autophagy. The effects of MFN2 overexpression were reversed by autophagy inhibitors.ConclusionMitofusin 2 promotes Parkin translocation and phosphorylation, leading to mitophagy to clear damaged mitochondria. However, the beneficial effects of MFN2 were reversed by autophagy inhibitors. Additionally, MFN2 participates in mitochondrial fusion to maintain mitochondrial quality. Thus, MFN2 participated in mitophagy and mitochondrial fusion against Ang II-induced cardiomyocyte injury
