University of Missouri--Kansas City, 2013Shadow of Dew Drops for violin, violoncello and piano was inspired by a poetry of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) "Xiao Chi - A little Pond" written by the famous poet Yang Wanli (1127-1206). This poetry depicts: the silent mouth of a spring "cherishes" the little streamlet and lets it flow quietly into the pond; the shadow of a tree flowing on the surface of the water, as though it has fallen in love with the soft sunshine; The pointed tip of a lotus sprout appears above the water, quickly, a dragonfly lands on it. In this poetry, the mouth of a spring, a little streamlet, the shade of a tree, a sprout of lotus and a lovely dragonfly, they all have lives and feelings just like human beings. The piano trio is a suitable instrumentation to represent this intimate and delicate writing style of this traditional Chinese poetry. Exploring fresh and lively sound effects to present this style become the goal of the piece. By using pizzicato followed by a glissando, fine harmonics of violin and cello, ornamentations and high repeated notes on piano, etc. to describe a lively picture of a little pond, show the harmonious and close relationship among natural things. The harmonic language of this piece is based on, but not limited to the Chinese pentatonic scales. The chord structures are complex because of the use of stacked seconds. Also, using different combinations of timbre and extended techniques (such as sul pont., sul tasto, harmonic, harmonic glissando, tremolo with glissando, glissando and pluck on piano internal strings, muted notes on piano, etc.) represent this exquisite artistic conception of the poetry.Abstract -- Score -- Vit

The Service Quality Evaluation of Mobile Communication from Quality Improvement Perspective ----a case study on China telecom in Wuchang District Wuhan City

    Get PDF
Based on SERVAUAL model, this paper brings in the entropy method to rank quality improvement (QI) priority for service attributes, and a service quality evaluation(SQE) model integrating competitive analyses has been structured to evaluate the mobile communication service quality (SQ) for Wuhan Branch of China Telecom(WBCT). The research shows that the QI priority of 22 service attributes has changed as adopts entropy method comparing with gap-based SERVQUAL. The service attributes that finally should be improved have changed from Q20(Various business charges reasonable) and Q22(Record customer complaints and improve) to Q21(provide customers all kinds of value-added services) and Q11(Staff serves with high efficiency)

Impact of Controlling Shareholder Equity Pledge on Corporate Value

As an innovative financing behavior, equity pledge breaks the limit of traditional financing, and broadens the financing channels of companies and major shareholders. This paper comprehensively considers the impact of controlling shareholder equity pledge on corporate value from three research perspectives. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) When the equity pledge is not considered, the cash flow rights and voting rights of the company owned by the controlling shareholder are positively correlated with corporate value. That is, this presents incentive effect, but the existence of the separation of the two powers brings the second type of agency problem and reduces corporate value. (2) When considering the equity pledge, the controlling shareholder’s equity pledge may weaken the incentive effect and strengthen the encroachment effect which causing a reduction of corporate value. (3) Based on the accounting point of view, the controlling shareholder’s equity pledge is negatively correlated with the corporate performance, while the concentration of ownership dilutes this negative effect. (4) The balance of equity weakens the negative effect of the controlling shareholder’s equity pledge on corporate value, thereby reduces the negative impact of the equity pledge

SabR enhances nikkomycin production via regulating the transcriptional level of sanG, a pathway-specific regulatory gene in Streptomyces ansochromogenes

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>sabR </it>is a pleiotropic regulatory gene which has been shown to positively regulate the nikkomycin biosynthesis and negatively affect the sporulation of <it>Streptomyces ansochromogenes</it>. In this study, we investigate the mechanism of SabR on modulating nikkomycin production in <it>Streptomyces ansochromogenes</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The transcription start point of <it>sabR </it>was determined by high-resolution S1 nuclease mapping and localized at the nucleotide T at position 37 bp upstream of the potential <it>sabR </it>translation start codon (GTG). Disruption of <it>sabR </it>enhanced its own transcription, but retarded the nikkomycin production. Over-expression of <it>sabR </it>enhanced nikkomycin biosynthesis in <it>Streptomyces ansochromogenes</it>. EMSA analysis showed that SabR bound to the upstream region of <it>sanG</it>, but it did not bind to the upstream region of its encoding gene (<it>sabR</it>), <it>sanF </it>and the intergenic region between <it>sanN </it>and <it>sanO</it>. DNase 1 footprinting assays showed that the SabR-binding site upstream of <it>sanG </it>was 5'-CTTTAAGTCACCTGGCTCATTCGCGTTCGCCCAGCT-3' which was designated as SARE. Deletion of SARE resulted in the delay of nikkomycin production that was similar to that of <it>sabR </it>disruption mutant.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>These results indicated that SabR modulated nikkomycin biosynthesis as an enhancer via interaction with the promoter region of <it>sanG</it>, and expanded our understanding about regulatory cascade in nikkomycin biosynthesis.</p

MODEL OF WORKING SHIP CROSSING CHANNEL

    Get PDF
An application method for working ship crossing safely is proposed to determine how to make navigation scheme at a certain time. This method makes it possible for decision makers to make reasonable judgments at different times. In this paper, the position relationship between working ship and navigation vessel in waterway is analysed by considering the ship size, hydrological conditions of waterway, ship arrival model and ship navigation trajectory. Using genetic algorithm, the operation scheme of keeping a safe distance between the working ship and the vessel in the channel is solved by taking the speed and direction of the working ship as genetic factors. By analysing the crossing scheme at each starting time in a given time range, the optimal crossing scheme with the farthest distance between the working ship and the vessels in the channel is obtained. According to the measured data, the simulation is carried out with MATLAB to verify the model of working ship crossing channel. The results show that it is safe and reliable to choose the navigation scheme proposed in this paper, which has strong application value
