International crude oil prices has become one of the important factors that affect exchange rate fluctuation. By combining TVP-VAR model and DY time-varying spillover index, this paper measures the two-way fluctuation spillover effect between international crude oil prices and RMB exchange rate from 2011 to 2022. The research results show that: (1) There are obvious time-varying characteristics among international crude oil prices, onshore RMB exchange rate and offshore RMB exchange rate, and they are strengthened when major events occur at home and abroad; (2) The spillover and absorption level among international crude oil prices, onshore RMB exchange rate and offshore RMB exchange rate is relatively limited; (3) After the “exchange rate reform on August 11”, the market participation of RMB exchange rate has increased year by year, and the offshore RMB is mainly net spillover, while the onshore RMB is mainly reflected as a recipient; (4) The offshore RMB exchange rate has a driving effect on the onshore RMB exchange rate. Based on this, it is necessary to orderly promote the development and utilization of new energy, actively promote the market-oriented reform of RMB exchange rate, play the leading role of offshore market, and accelerate the construction of crude oil-RMB settlement system.</div

A Study on the Origin of the Radical in Fullerene and Graphene

We reported the electron spin resonance (ESR) signal in neutral low band gap semiconductors and C60 in the Li Y., J. Phys. Chem. C 2017, 121, 8579–8588. Herein, further investigation on the origin of the radical of fullerene and its derivatives was conducted, and we proposed an open-shell diradical ground state of C60 and its derivatives for the first time in this work. The radicals of fullerene are usually acknowledged as their impurities or radical cations/anions. Diradical ground states in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including the zethrene family and others with fused five-/six-member rings motivate us to investigate the other potential origin of the radicals of fullerene. C60 has 1812 sets of resonance structures, which is the key factor to stabilize its diradicals. Numerous sets of resonance structures and excellent electron delocalization of graphene play as the key factors in stabilizing its diradicals. The previously claimed ESR-silent C60 after sublimation is due to the four-member ring formation and further self-polymerization. C60 with higher purity exhibited a higher ESR signal intensity, and this further confirmed that the ESR might not come from the impurity. Previously published work confirmed the radical is not from a radical cation/anion; our proposal of the radical of fullerene is reasonable in understanding its basic properties. Moreover, the radical origin of graphene is also proposed similarly

Turbulence characteristics within the atmospheric surface layer of the coastal region of Qatar

The atmospheric turbulence characteristics in the coastal region of Qatar are analyzed using the measurements conducted on the shoreline (26.08 N, 51.36 E). The micrometeorological data were collected, from August 2015 to September 2016, using sonic anemometers (20 Hz) at three heights and a weather station atop a 9-m tower. The turbulence characteristics are studied within the framework of Monin–Obukhov similarity theory (MOST), in the presence of the coastal inhomogeneities generated by the sea and land surfaces coming together. The results show the wind from the north-west prevails during the entire test period, with the wind speed higher than that from other directions. The non-dimensional standard deviations of velocity components are found to be consistent the results reported around the world and match suggested MOST scaling, with a relatively greater value for the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy. The flux Richardson number shows a larger scatter under the super-stable and super-unstable regimes. Moreover, the non-dimensional standard deviation of temperature does not align with the suggested model under near-neutral and very stable regimes, and the gradient Richardson number shows some negative values under stable regimes. Two different atmospheric daily stability patterns, ‘orderly’ and ‘disheveled,’ are identified based on the wind conditions. The orderly stability pattern shows a daily descending and ascending trend during the sunrise and sunset periods, respectively, while the disheveled days follow a random pattern with no clear order. The two patterns are then related to the wind continuity and direction relative to the shoreline.Other Information Published in: Boundary-Layer Meteorology License: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0See article on publisher's website: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10546-022-00709-6</p
