Resource-efficient low-loss four-channel active demultiplexer for single photons

We report a design and implementation of a resource-efficient spatial demultiplexer which produces 4 indistinguishable photons with efficiency of 39.7% per channel. Our scheme is based on a free-space storage/delay line which accumulates 4 photons and releases them by a controlled polarization rotation using a single Pockels cell.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

Effect of high pressure processing in the formation of castings of aluminum alloys

    No full text
The effect of high pressure on the formation conditions of aluminum castings has been investigated. It was established experimentally that the crystallization of castings under high mechanical pressure proceeds at a higher temperature difference across the cross section than at atmospheric pressure. The cooling rate of a cylindrical casting in various zones on the section, which is characteristic for cooling alloy in the crystallization range, is determined. The formula for calculating the solidification time of a casting and the time of its holding pressure during piston compression is recommended. The influence of the scale factor on the solidification time of cylindrical castings is considered. It is shown that with increasing height at a constant diameter of the casting, the relationship between the solidification time and diameter of the casting is linear. It has been experimentally established that the solidification coefficient of an alloy depends on its thermophysical properties of the alloy and the applied pressure. Its value increases with decreasing silicon content in the alloy and increasing pressure. The pressure significantly reduces the difference in the values of the solidification coefficient of castings from alloys of different compositions. Ā© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

Ore of the Tomtor rare-earth deposit for its industrial processing

    No full text
One of the most promising rare-earth metal (REE) deposits is the Tomtor deposit. The purpose of the work was to study the technological sample of the Tomtor ore deposit to determine the methods of its industrial processing. To achieve this target, studies were conducted on the particle size distribution, mineral and chemical composition of the ore. It was established that the ore of the Tomtor deposit is a fine-disperse material, the particles of which are represented by polymineral aggregates of microcrystals smaller than micrometer. The ore belongs to pyrochlore-monazite-crandallite variety of phosphate-rare-metal ores and is rich in the content of minerals of rare-earth elements. Due to the fine-disperse and high complexity, the ore under this studying cannot be enriched by the traditional methods. An option for processing ore using combined pyro- and hydrometallurgy methods is proposed. Ā© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

The effect of cyclic heat treatment on the structure of 5140 steel after cold plastic deformation

    No full text
The objective of this work are experimental research of steel 5140 damages appearance under cold plastic deformation and healing continuity defects characteristic study by following periodic heat treatment. The experimental research of deformation defects continuity appearance in steel 5140 with the granular and lamellar perlit under cold plastic deformation in dependence to original structure was conducted. The deformation defects appearance pattern in steel, their growth in dependence to degree of deformation, microstructure and capacity for healing in the process of cold forging are seemed to be pertinent are explored. It was concluded, that at early deformation stages independently of perlit morphology in steel 5140 the damage is related to micropore appearance in ferrite. The possibility of defects healing by periodic heat treatment is found out. For damage changes studying in the process of cold plastic deformation and healing heat treatment the following experimental design was used: the preliminary periodic heat treatment - deformation with varying degrees - healing periodic heat treatment - deformation up to failure. The periodic heat treatment with phase recrystallization is shown to bring about more full healing damages in comparison with recrystallization annealing. Herewith the microdefects critical size increases up to 2 micrometers, and invertible damage stage extend to 0.4. Ā© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

We demonstrate mode locking in a two-section quantum-dot laser that produces output powers up to 45 mW at 1260 nm. The pulse duration could be varied from 2 ps to as short as 400 fs at the 21 GHz pulse repetition rate. (c) 2005 American Institute of Physics.</p
