Fake Conformal Symmetry in Conformal Cosmological Models

    Get PDF
We examine the local conformal invariance (Weyl invariance) in tensor-scalar theories used in recently proposed conformal cosmological models. We show that the Noether currents associated with Weyl invariance in these theories vanish. We assert that the corresponding Weyl symmetry does not have any dynamical role.Comment: References updated, errors corrected, published in Phys. Rev. D. 4 pages, RevTeX, no figure

Topological Mass Generation in Four Dimensions

Schwinger's mechanism for mass generation relies on topological structures of a 2-dimensional gauge theory. In the same manner, corresponding 4-dimensional topological entities give rise to topological mass generation in four dimensions.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure

Autism Spectrum: The Impact of Colors and Symbols Have on Students Outcome

The purpose of this action research paper was to explore the effects of educational interventions using colors and symbols on orchestra members with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A fifth week action study was conducted using visual support for effective musical expression in an orchestra composed of members with autism and intellectual disabilities. The red glasses marked on the sheet music of the members should see the conductor and play according to conductor’s hand signals, and the number of times they could not play according to the conductor\u27s hand signals was checked every week for 5 weeks to collect and analyze data. The educational intervention using colors and symbols was effective for all members, but the difference in intervention effect was large for member with autism. Positive responses from parents and team members to educational interventions using colors and symbols in structured surveys suggest more use of visual aids. Future research will investigate the effect of educational interventions using various colors and symbols on the performance of orchestra members, and whether the use of visual tools is helpful for orchestra operation

Personal Protective Clothing: Law Enforcement Officers’ Attitudes and Safety Behavior Assessments Toward High-Visibility Safety Apparel

Traffic related fatalities are one of the most common workplace hazards in the law enforcement community. They accounted for approximately 44% of all fatalities within the law enforcement occupational field between 2002 and 2011. Although many law enforcement officers’ deaths are due to being struck by vehicles, these could be prevented with the use of High-Visibility Safety Apparel (HVSA). The importance of raising traffic protective behavior compliance is largely overlooked by misperceptions in the workplace. Relatively few studies have examined HVSA wearing behaviors associated with social psychological human elements. It has still remained unclear as subjective or objective experiences. Proper assessment of law enforcement officers’ attitudes and safety behaviors are imperative in efforts to reduce traffic-related fatalities; andto improve the overall health and workplace safety in the law enforcement community. This study contributes to the research on law enforcement officers by providing information about what factors influence HVSA wearing decisions. It informs safety training officers and law enforcement organizations to develop successful training and practice programs that improve voluntary compliance
