The effects of red grape, wild grape and black raspberry wines on the quality of ground pork during a 15 days refrigerated storage period were investigated. The levels of phenolic compounds were the highest in black raspberry wine (P0.05). The addition of 5% and 10% wine influenced the quality of ground pork by decreasing pH, inhibiting the progression of lipid oxidation and the formation of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), and stabilizing the red colour of the ground pork compared to control samples to which no wine was added. In ground pork, addition of red grape wine led to lower concentrations of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS, 0.19–0.39 mg kg−1) and TVB-N values (69.1–119.9 mg kg−1) than wild grape (0.16–0.43 mg kg−1 and 72.0–194.1 mg kg−1, respectively) or black raspberry wine (0.33–0.58 mg kg−1 and 81.7–225.4 mg kg−1, respectively) up to 10 days of storage. Results from the present study suggested that the quality of ground pork was affected by wine type and storage period. These effects could be due to phenolic compounds as well as other chemical components of the wines

Oviposition and Feeding Preferences of the Bollworm on Cotton.

Oviposition and feeding preferences of the bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie) on cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., cultivar ´Tamcot CAMD-E´. were studied. A highly significant number of eggs on termnal and leaves indicated clearly that bollworm moths exibit a high degree of preference for egg placement on these parts. Feeding sites for bollworm larvae were quite variable among instars and plant parts, except for white flowers and red flowers which were the most preferred feeding sites for all larval instars. Terminals and leaves were the second most damaged plant parts by the first instars. Large boll preference increased from fourth to sixth instars, with a peak of damage in the fifth instar. It was concluded that egg lacement may vary among plant parts. Feeding preference sites varied from instar to instar within the various cotton plant parts. Consequently, caution should be taken in common scoring practices.Made available in DSpace on 2011-04-09T12:21:56Z (GMT). The study of structure in 224–234 thorium nuclei within the framework IBM

An investigation has been made of the behaviour of nuclear structure as a function of an increase in neutron number from 224Th to 234Th. Thorium of mass number 234 is a typical rotor nucleus that can be explained by the SU(3) limit of the interacting boson model(IBM) in the algebraic nuclear model. Furthermore, 224−232Th lie on the path of the symmetry-breaking phase transition. Moreover, the nuclear structure of 224Th can be explained using X(5) symmetry. However, as 226−230Th nuclei are not fully symmetrical nuclei, they can be represented by adding a perturbed term to express symmetry breaking. Through the following three calculation steps, we identified the tendency of change in nuclear structure. Firstly, the structure of 232Th is described using the matrix elements of the Hamiltonian and the electric quadrupole operator between basis states of the SU(3) limit in IBM. Secondly, the low-lying energy levels and E2 transition ratios corresponding to the observable physical values are calculated by adding a perturbed term with the first-order Casimir operator of the U(5) limit to the SU(3) Hamiltonian in IBM. We compared the results with experimental data of 224−234Th. Lastly, the potential of the Bohr Hamiltonian is represented by a harmonic oscillator, as a result of which the structure of 224−234Th could be expressed in closed form by an approximate separation of variables. The results of these theoretical predictions clarify nuclear structure changes in Thorium nuclei over mass numbers of practical significance

The Viscoelastic Bending Stiffness of Fiber-Reinforced Composite Ilizarov C-Rings

    No full text
In order to optimize the design of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite (Ilizarov) C-rings, the viscoelastic load relaxation behavior was analyzed under a point load. Initially, the deflection and bending stiffness were calculated from the Castigliano theorem and the Euler-Bernoulli bending theory for the elastic solution. The viscoelastic relaxation and creep behavior were then derived from the elastic solution by using the correspondence theorem. Besides the orthotropic mechanical properties of the composite, the asymmetric mechanical properties due to different tensile and compressive properties were also considered. With the exception of the deviation, which was affected by a relatively large thickness ratio to the radius of the C-ring, the calculated relaxation showed good agreement with the experimental result
