SUSY QCD impact on top-pair production associated with a -boson at a photon-photon collider
The top-pair production in association with a -boson at a photon-photon
collider is an important process in probing the coupling between top-quarks and
vector boson and discovering the signature of possible new physics. We describe
the impact of the complete supersymmetric QCD(SQCD) next-to-leading order(NLO)
radiative corrections on this process at a polarized or unpolarized photon
collider, and make a comparison between the effects of the SQCD and the
standard model(SM) QCD. We investigate the dependence of the lowest-order(LO)
and QCD NLO corrected cross sections in both the SM and minimal supersymmetric
standard model(MSSM) on colliding energy in different polarized
photon collision modes. The LO, SM NLO and SQCD NLO corrected distributions of
the invariant mass of -pair and the transverse momenta of final
-boson are presented. Our numerical results show that the pure SQCD
effects in \ggttz process can be more significant in the polarized photon
collision mode than in other collision modes, and the relative SQCD radiative
correction in unpolarized photon collision mode varies from 32.09% to

An interpretation for the entropy of a black hole
We investigate the meaning of the entropy carried away by Hawking radiations
from a black hole. We propose that the entropy for a black hole measures the
uncertainty of the information about the black hole forming matter's
precollapsed configurations, self-collapsed configurations, and inter-collapsed
configurations. We find that gravitational wave or gravitational radiation
alone cannot carry all information about the processes of black hole
coalescence and collapse, while the total information locked in the hole could
be carried away completely by Hawking radiation as tunneling
Assessing collusion risks in managing construction projects using artificial neural network
Being an insidious risk to construction projects, collusion has attracted extensive attention from numerous researchers around the world. However, little effort has ever been made to assess collusion, which is important and necessary for curbing collusion in construction projects. Specific to the context of China, this paper developed an artificial neural network model to assess collusion risk in construction projects. Based on a comprehensive literature review, a total of 22 specific collusive practices were identified first, and then refined by a two-round Delphi interview with 15 experienced experts. Subsequently, using the consolidated framework of collusive practices, a questionnaire was further developed and disseminated, which received 97 valid replies. The questionnaire data were then utilized to develop and validate the collusion risk assessment model with the facilitation of artificial neural network approach. The developed model was finally applied in a real-life metro project in which its reliability and applicability were both verified. Although the model was developed under the context of Chinese construction projects, its developing strategy can be applied in other countries, especially for those emerging economies that have a significant concern of collusion in their construction sectors, and thus contributing to the global body of knowledge of collusion
Observation of intensity squeezing in resonance fluorescence from a solid-state device
Intensity squeezing i.e. photon number fluctuations below the shot noise limit is a fundamental aspect of quantum optics and has wide applications in quantum metrology. It was predicted in 1979 that the intensity squeezing could be observed in resonance fluorescence from a two-level quantum system. Yet, its experimental observation in solid states was hindered by inefficiencies in generating, collecting and detecting resonance fluorescence. Here, we report the intensity squeezing in a single-mode fibre-coupled resonance fluorescence single-photon source based on a quantum dot-micropillar system. We detect pulsed single-photon streams with 22.6% system efficiency, which show subshot-noise intensity fluctuation with an intensity squeezing of . We estimate a corrected squeezing of at the first lens. The observed intensity squeezing provides the last piece of the fundamental picture of resonance fluorescence; which can be used as a new standard for optical radiation and in scalable quantum metrology with indistinguishable single photons.PostprintPeer reviewe
CAKβ/Pyk2 Kinase Is a Signaling Link for Induction of Long-Term Potentiation in CA1 Hippocampus
AbstractLong-term potentiation (LTP) is an activity-dependent enhancement of synaptic efficacy, considered a model of learning and memory. The biochemical cascade producing LTP requires activation of Src, which upregulates the function of NMDA receptors (NMDARs), but how Src becomes activated is unknown. Here, we show that the focal adhesion kinase CAKβ/Pyk2 upregulated NMDAR function by activating Src in CA1 hippocampal neurons. Induction of LTP was prevented by blocking CAKβ/Pyk2, and administering CAKβ/Pyk2 intracellularly mimicked and occluded LTP. Tyrosine phosphorylation of CAKβ/Pyk2 and its association with Src was increased by stimulation that produced LTP. Finally, CAKβ/Pyk2-stimulated enhancement of synaptic AMPA responses was prevented by blocking NMDARS, chelating intracellular Ca2+, or blocking Src. Thus, activating CAKβ/Pyk2 is required for inducing LTP and may depend upon downstream activation of Src to upregulate NMDA receptors
iCartiGD: the Integrated Cartilage Gene Database
BACKGROUND: Diseases of cartilage, such as arthritis and degenerative disc disease, affect the majority of the general population, particularly with ageing. Discovery and understanding of the genes and pathways involved in cartilage biology will greatly assist research on the development, degeneration and disorders of cartilage. DESCRIPTION: We have established the Integrated Cartilage Gene Database (iCartiGD) of genes that are known, based on results from high throughput experiments, to be expressed in cartilage. Information about these genes is extracted automatically from public databases and presented as a single page report via a web-browser. A variety of flexible search options are provided and the chromosomal distribution of cartilage associated genes can be presented. CONCLUSION: iCartiGD provides a comprehensive source of information on genes known to be expressed in cartilage. It will remain current due to its automatic update capability and provide researchers with an easily accessible resource for studies involving cartilage. Genetic studies of the development and disorders of cartilage will benefit from this database
A complementary method for detecting qi vacuity
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Qi vacuity (QV) is defined by traditional Chinese medicine as a loss of energy in the human body. An objective method for detecting QV was not available until recently, however. The automatic reflective diagnosis system (ARDK) is a device that detects human bioenergy through measuring skin conductance at 24 special acupoints on the wrists and ankles.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>This study used the ARDK to measure skin conductance on 193 patients with QV and 89 sex- and age-matched healthy controls to investigate whether the device is useful in detecting QV. Patients diagnosed with QV have three or more of five symptoms or signs; symptom severity is measured on 5 levels and scored from 0 to 4 points. We compared the difference in the mean ARDK values between patients with QV and healthy controls, and further used linear regression analysis to investigate the correlation between the mean ARDK values and QV scores in patients diagnosed with QV.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The mean ARDK values in patients with QV (30.2 ± 16.8 μA) are significantly lower than those of healthy controls (37.7 ± 10.8 μA; <it>P </it>< 0.001). A negative correlation was found between the mean ARDK values and QV scores (<it>r </it>coefficient = -0.61; <it>P </it>< 0.001). After adjusting for age, the decreased mean ARDK values in patients with QV showed a significant correlation with the QV scores.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>These results suggest that the mean ARDK values reflect the severity of QV in patients diagnosed with the disorder. They also suggest that the bioenergy level of the human body can be measured by skin conductance. ARDK is a safe and effective complementary method for detecting and diagnosing QV.</p
Spin squeezing and entanglement in spinor-1 condensates
We analyze quantum correlation properties of a spinor-1 (f=1) Bose Einstein
condensate using the Gell-Mann realization of SU(3) symmetry. We show that
previously discussed phenomena of condensate fragmentation and spin-mixing can
be explained in terms of the hypercharge symmetry. The ground state of a
spinor-1 condensate is found to be fragmented for ferromagnetic interactions.
The notion of two bosonic mode squeezing is generalized to the two spin (U-V)
squeezing within the SU(3) formalism. Spin squeezing in the isospin subspace
(T) is found and numerically investigated. We also provide new results for the

Evaluation of a pilot cooperative medical scheme in rural China: impact on gender patterns of health care utilization and prescription practices
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In 2003 the Chinese government introduced voluntary cooperative medical schemes (CMS), soon to be in place throughout rural China. Families who chose to enroll do so as a single unit and nothing is known about any differential effect of these new schemes on family members. This study evaluates the impact of one pilot CMS in Anhui Province on health care use by girls aged less than 5 years and women 65 years or older, and on the pattern and cost of prescriptions.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Health care records were extracted covering a 10 year period, before, during and after the pilot CMS in 4 townships, one with the intervention and 3 comparison townships without. The impact of the intervention on the age and gender distribution of patients presenting for health care and on the prescription of certain drugs was assessed by logistic regression. The cost of prescriptions before, during and after the intervention period was also assessed.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>203,058 registration and 643,588 prescription records were identified. During the intervention there was a reduced likelihood overall that a patient was female (OR = 0.92: 95%CI 0.87 - 0.97) at the intervention site. Girls aged < 5 years had an increased likelihood of health care (OR = 1.41: 95%CI 1.23 - 1.59) during the CMS, but women ≥ 65 years were relatively disadvantaged (OR = 0.84: 95%CI 0.75 - 0.95). The use of antibiotics and systemic steroids increased disproportionately at the intervention site for patients ≥ 5 years. Prescription costs at the township hospital also increased at the intervention site, particularly for older men.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This evaluation suggests that all family members did not benefit equally from the pilot CMS and that women ≥ 65 years may be disadvantaged by the newly available reimbursements of health care costs through the CMS. It points to the need, in future evaluations, to use individuals rather than families as the unit of analysis, in order to determine whether such health care inequalities are wide-spread and persistent or are reduced in the longer term. The results also support earlier concerns about the influence of new funding resources on prescription practices and the need for regulation of for-profit prescribing.</p
A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III
We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter for
BESIII experiment at the BEPCII collider. In this method, the doubly
tagged events, with one decays to
CP-eigenstates and the other decays semileptonically, are used to
reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good separation,
a likelihood approach, which combines the , time of flight and the
electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle
identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of to be
