Totally Laparoscopic Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer Associated with Recklinghausen's Disease

This paper documents the first case of gastric cancer associated with Recklinghausen's disease, which was successfully treated by a totally laparoscopic operation. A 67-year-old woman with Recklinghausen's disease was referred to this department to undergo surgical treatment for early gastric cancer. The physical examination showed multiple cutaneous neurofibromas throughout the body surface, which made an upper abdominal incision impossible. Laparoscopic surgery requiring only small incisions was well indicated, and a totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with lymph node dissection was performed. Billroth I reconstruction was done intra-abdominally using a delta-shaped anastomosis. The patient followed a satisfactory postoperative course with no complications. Since the totally laparoscopic gastrectomy has many advantages over open surgery, it should therefore be preferentially used as a less invasive treatment in the field of gastric cancer

In-Orbit Demonstration of Propellant-Less Formation Flight with Momentum Exchange of Jointed Multiple CubeSats in the MAGNARO Mission

Recently, small satellites such as CubeSats have been applied to a variety of missions such as scientific observations and remote sensing. One of attractive applications that can be relatively easily achieved by small satellites are multi-satellite missions such as formation flight and constellation. As a new method to realize these multi-satellite missions, we propose a method to separate jointed multiple satellite magnetically to generate ΔV without thrusters. To demonstrate the proposed method, we are developing a 3U sized CubeSat called MAGNARO (MAGnetically separating NAnosatellite with Rotation for Orbit control)

For development of a nondestructive quality evaluation method as an indicator of the moisture content of rose cut flowers during distribution, four experimental equations to estimate the moisture content of the cut flowers were proposed using the bending properties and the diameter of the stem. As a result, the moisture content of the stem could be nondestructively estimated by the multiple regression equation which has two explanatory variables of the bending load and the average diameter of the stem. Moreover, the change of moisture content for the stem over time could be predicted by the obtained experimental regression equation

The excretion and reabsorption of uric acid both to and from urine are tightly regulated by uric acid transporters. Metabolic syndrome conditions, such as obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and insulin resistance, are believed to regulate the expression of uric acid transporters and decrease the excretion of uric acid. However, the mechanisms driving cholesterol impacts on uric acid transporters have been unknown. Here, we show that cholesterol metabolite 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC) upregulates the uric acid reabsorption transporter URAT1 encoded by SLC22A12 via estrogen receptors (ER). Transcriptional motif analysis showed that the SLC22A12 gene promoter has more estrogen response elements (EREs) than other uric acid reabsorption transporters such as SLC22A11 and SLC22A13, and 27HC-activated SLC22A12 gene promoter via ER through EREs. Furthermore, 27HC increased SLC22A12 gene expression in human kidney organoids. Our results suggest that in hypercholesterolemic conditions, elevated levels of 27HC derived from cholesterol induce URAT1/SLC22A12 expression to increase uric acid reabsorption, and thereby, could increase serum uric acid levels.博士(医学)・甲第772号・令和3年3月15日© 2020 The Authors. Road infrastructure and TFP in Japan after the rapid growth period: A non-stationary panel approach

This study investigates the relationship between road infrastructure capital stock and total factor productivity (TFP) in Japan using the R-JIP 2017 database, allowing us to estimate TFP by considering the input quality. Using the growth accounting method, we estimate the TFP of each industry in each prefecture from 1972 to 2012 and conduct a panel data analysis to explain the TFP by road capital stock. The second-generation panel unit-root test results indicate the possibility of unit roots in road capital stock. Therefore, we use a panel autoregressive distributed lag model, considering non-stationarity and the specific type of reverse causality. The empirical analysis results show that the elasticity of aggregate TFP to road stock is 0.05 and has positive effects for 11 out of 18 industries, even after the period of rapid economic growth. In particular, the effect of infrastructure tends to be positive during periods of increased value added and TFP. The strongest impact is found for the transport equipment sector, followed by government services, transport, and communications. Furthermore, we find that the two-way fixed effects model and the first-difference estimates could produce misleading results
