    An Optimized Runge-Kutta Method for the Numerical Solution of the Radial Schrödinger Equation

    An optimized explicit modified Runge-Kutta (RK) method for the numerical integration of the radial Schrödinger equation is presented in this paper. This method has frequency-depending coefficients with vanishing dispersion, dissipation, and the first derivative of dispersion. Stability and phase analysis of the new method are examined. The numerical results in the integration of the radial Schrödinger equation with the Woods-Saxon potential are reported to show the high efficiency of the new method

    Cost-reduction implicit exponential Runge-Kutta methods for highly oscillatory systems

    In this paper, two novel classes of implicit exponential Runge-Kutta (ERK) methods are studied for solving highly oscillatory systems. First of all, we analyze the symplectic conditions of two kinds of exponential integrators, and present a first-order symplectic method. In order to solve highly oscillatory problems, the highly accurate implicit ERK integrators (up to order four) are formulated by comparing the Taylor expansions of numerical and exact solutions, it is shown that the order conditions of two new kinds of exponential methods are identical to the order conditions of classical Runge-Kutta (RK) methods. Moreover, we investigate the linear stability properties of these exponential methods. Finally, numerical results not only present the long time energy preservation of the first-order symplectic method, but also illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of these formulated methods in comparison with standard ERK methods

    A New Trigonometrically Fitted Two-Derivative Runge-Kutta Method for the Numerical Solution of the Schrödinger Equation and Related Problems

    A new trigonometrically fitted fifth-order two-derivative Runge-Kutta method with variable nodes is developed for the numerical solution of the radial Schrödinger equation and related oscillatory problems. Linear stability and phase properties of the new method are examined. Numerical results are reported to show the robustness and competence of the new method compared with some highly efficient methods in the recent literature

    Superconductivity at 22.3 K in SrFe2-xIrxAs2

    By substituting the Fe with the 5d-transition metal Ir in SrFe2As2, we have successfully synthesized the superconductor SrFe2-xIrxAs2 with Tc = 22.3 K at x = 0.5. X-ray diffraction indicates that the material has formed the ThCr2Si2-type structure with a space group I4/mmm. The temperature dependence of resistivity and dc magnetization both reveal sharp superconducting transitions at around 22 K. An estimate on the diamagnetization signal reveals a high Meissner shielding volume. Interestingly, the normal state resistivity exhibits a roughly linear behavior up to 300 K. The superconducting transitions at different magnetic fields were also measured yielding a slope of -dHc2/dT = 3.8 T/K near Tc. Using the Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg (WHH) formula, the upper critical field at zero K is found to be about 58 T. Counting the possible number of electrons doped into the system in SrFe2-xIrxAs2, we argue that the superconductivity in the Ir-doped system is different from the Co-doped case, which should add more ingredients to the underlying physics of the iron pnictide superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Evaluation of SLOG/TCI-III pediatric system on target control infusion of propofol

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The target-controlled infusion-III (SLOG/TCI-III) system was derived from a model set up by the local pediatric population for target control infusion of propofol.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The current study aimed at evaluating the difference between target concentrations of propofol and performance, which was measured using the SLOG/TCI-III system in children. Thirty children fulfilling the I-II criteria according to American Society of Anesthesiology were enrolled in the study. The target plasma concentration of propofol was fed into the SLOG/TCI-III system and compared with the measured concentrations of propofol. Blood samples were collected and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector. The performance error (PE) was determined for each measured blood propofol concentration. The performances of the TCI-III system were determined by the median performance error (MDPE), the median absolute performance error (MDAPE), and Wobble (the median absolute deviation of each PE from the MDPE), respectively.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Concentration against target concentration showed good linear correlation: concentration = 1.3428 target concentration - 0.2633 (r = 0.8667). The MDPE and MDAPE of the pediatric system were 10 and 22%, respectively, and the median value for Wobble was 24%. MDPE and MDAPE were less than 15 and 30%, respectively.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The performance of TCI-III system seems to be in the accepted limits for clinical practice in children.</p

    Point-Contact Spectroscopy of Iron-Based Layered Superconductor LaO0.9_{0.9}F0.1δ_{0.1-\delta}FeAs

    We present point-contact spectroscopy data for junctions between a normal metal and the newly discovered F-doped superconductor LaO0.9_{0.9}F0.1δ_{0.1-\delta}FeAs (F-LaOFeAs). A zero-bias conductance peak was observed and its shape and magnitude suggests the presence of Andreev bound states at the surface of F-LaOFeAs, which provides a possible evidence of an unconventional pairing symmetry with a nodal gap function. The maximum gap value Δ03.9±0.7\Delta_0\approx3.9\pm0.7meV was determined from the measured spectra, in good agreement with the recent experiments on specific heat and lower critical field.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Off-line evaluation of indoor positioning systems in different scenarios: the experiences from IPIN 2020 competition

    Every year, for ten years now, the IPIN competition has aimed at evaluating real-world indoor localisation systems by testing them in a realistic environment, with realistic movement, using the EvAAL framework. The competition provided a unique overview of the state-of-the-art of systems, technologies, and methods for indoor positioning and navigation purposes. Through fair comparison of the performance achieved by each system, the competition was able to identify the most promising approaches and to pinpoint the most critical working conditions. In 2020, the competition included 5 diverse off-site off-site Tracks, each resembling real use cases and challenges for indoor positioning. The results in terms of participation and accuracy of the proposed systems have been encouraging. The best performing competitors obtained a third quartile of error of 1 m for the Smartphone Track and 0.5 m for the Foot-mounted IMU Track. While not running on physical systems, but only as algorithms, these results represent impressive achievements.Track 3 organizers were supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska Curie Grant 813278 (A-WEAR: A network for dynamic WEarable Applications with pRivacy constraints), MICROCEBUS (MICINN, ref.     New Phase Fitted and Amplification Fitted Numerov-Type Methods for Periodic IVPs with Two Frequencies

    Phase fitted and amplification fitted Numerov-type methods for periodic initial value problems with two frequencies are investigated. A one-frequency method and a two-frequency method are constructed. The two new methods both have algebraic order five and are dispersive of order six and dissipative of order five. The two-dimensional absolute stability region for the one-frequency method and the three-dimensional absolute stability region for the two-frequency method are plotted. Numerical experiments are reported to show the efficiency and competence of the two new methods
