South Carolina: Round 1 - State Level Field Network Study of the Implementation of the Affordable Care Act
This report is part of a series of 21 state and regional studies examining the rollout of the ACA. The national network -- with 36 states and 61 researchers -- is led by the Rockefeller Institute of Government, the public policy research arm of the State University of New York, the Brookings Institution, and the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania.South Carolina has its work cut out for it. As a state with one of the highest poverty rates and poorest health outcomes indicators, one thing stakeholders from all perspectives agree on is the need for improvement in the state's health status. Successful implementation of the ACA in South Carolina -- for those who believe that is the goal -- will require building greater public understanding of the ACA and enrolling all who are eligible in a state in which government distrust is high and public insurance program take-up rates have traditionally been low. It will also require a shift in position on the Medicaid expansion option. As long as the state's poorest uninsured remain without assistance, the aims of the ACA to promote widespread access to health care will never be realized
Getting to more effective weight management in antipsychotic-treated youth: a survey of barriers and preferences
Background: Mentally ill youth are at risk for developing obesity, especially when they require antipsychotic treatment; moreover, they may face unique challenges in adhering to behavioral weight loss interventions. The aims of this project were to characterize the challenges families of youth with psychiatric disorders face when engaging in weight loss treatment and to gather information on attitudes and preferences for weight management interventions in this population. Methods: We devised a telephone survey to evaluate caregiver-perceived barriers/challenges to and preferences for behavioral weight loss treatment in overweight or obese mentally ill youth ages 6–18 treated with an antipsychotic agent in an outpatient setting. Results: A total of 26 parents or primary caregivers completed the survey. The most commonly cited barriers to participation in physical activity (PA) and maintaining a healthy diet were child's dislike of PA and child's preference for energy-dense foods, respectively, which were impacted by psychiatric symptoms. Preferences for weight loss treatment included individualized, prescribed meal plans and shopping lists, and exercise support/demonstration, with a preference for Internet or cell phone applications to help with monitoring food intake and exercise. Conclusions: These results suggest that targets for obesity treatment in this population include individualized, specific support that takes into account the child's motivation, which is effected by psychiatric symptoms. Tools for providing support may include the use of telehealth visits and mobile device applications for self-monitoring
Systemic antibiotics for symptomatic apical periodontitis and acute apical abscess in adults.
The principal objective of this review is to evaluate the effects of systemic antibiotics for symptomatic apical periodontitis and acute apical abscess in adults by comparing participant reported measures of pain and swelling or clinician reported measures of infection or both

Application of Artificial Intelligent Predictive Modeling for Completion Optimization and Refracture Candidacy
Unconventional reservoirs are full of uncertainty when dealing with conventional methods of modeling and analysis. The objective of this work is to use a trained artificial intelligent (AI) model to compare actual production data to AI predicted possible well production. Data-driven models based on AI are efficient tools for optimizing the production, stimulation, and completion design of wells and can be very beneficial when determining the success or failure of wells based on production. An AI model for production predictions require both native and design parameters, which include well characteristics, completion design, and stimulation design parameters.;Data from over 100 Marcellus Shale wells are used to train and test an AI model for production predictions. Feature selection algorithms are used to determine the most influential input parameters pre and post modeling for both increased model accuracy and quality assurance. Post modeling, Monte-Carlo simulation and Type Curves are used to assess the performance of each well based on the AI generated well production values. AI model generation is a very useful tool for predicting production performance of existing wells, which can be used to optimize design characteristics and reservoir production. Generating AI predictive models in fields with low amount of cases to train and test the artificial neural network require very delicate and careful considerations in order to maximize the effect and accuracy of the predictive model.;This study will be able to give an underlying method of applying these artificially intelligent solutions to a complex petroleum engineering problem. The ability to correctly apply these techniques will allow for the optimization of completion and stimulation designs within complex, unconventional reservoir

Why Women Leave White Nationalist Movements: Exploring the Deradicalization Process
This essay aims to explore primarily why women leave white nationalist movements, and the possible role of gender in the radicalization and deradicalization of white women in white nationalist movements. This essay examines the narratives of three former white supremacist women - Angela King, Samantha, and Katie McHugh - and identifies patterns in their journeys. This study has a limited scope due to the small number of case studies available and needs further research. In attempting to connect different narratives of former white supremacist women in an under-studied area, I take the liberty to interpret their stories within the broader framework of organized racism. For clarity’s sake, organized racism and hate, extremism, the alt-right, white power, nationalism, and supremacy are used interchangeably
