    Oscillation theorems for certain third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations on time scales

    In this paper, we establish some new oscillation criteria for the third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations (b(t)([a(t)(xΔ(t))α1]Δ)α2)Δ+q(t)xα3(τ(t))=0\left(b(t)\left([a(t)(x^\Delta(t))^{\alpha_1}]^\Delta\right)^{\alpha_2}\right)^\Delta+q(t)x^{\alpha_3}(\tau(t))=0 on a time scale T\mathbb{T}, where αi\alpha_i are ratios of positive odd integers, i=1, 2, 3,i=1,\ 2,\ 3, b, ab,\ a and qq are positive real-valued rd-continuous functions defined on T\mathbb{T}, and the so-called delay function τ:T→T\tau:\mathbb{T}\rightarrow \mathbb{T} is a strictly increasing function such that τ(t)≤t\tau(t)\leq t for t∈Tt\in \mathbb{T} and τ(t)→∞\tau(t)\rightarrow\infty as t→∞.t\rightarrow\infty. By using the Riccati transformation technique and integral averaging technique, some new sufficient conditions which insure that every solution oscillates or tends to zero are established. Our results are new for third order nonlinear delay dynamic equations and complement the results established by Yu and Wang in J. Comput. Appl. Math., 2009, and Erbe, Peterson and Saker in J. Comput. Appl. Math., 2005. Some examples are given here to illustrate our main results

    Intrusion of polyethylene glycol into solid-state nanopores

    The intrusion of PEG aqueous solution into solid-state-nanopores upon mechanical pressure is experimentally investigated. By using hydrophobic nanoporous silica with a broad range of pore sizes, the characteristic size of PEG chains in water while penetrating nanopores is measured and analyzed, which increases with molecular weight and decreases with concentration of PEG. Its sensitivity to molecular weight is relatively limited due to nano-confinement. The inclusion of PEG as an intruding liquid imposes a rate effect on the intrusion pressure, and inhibits the extrusion from the nanopores

    Traditional quantitative content analysis approach (human coding method) has weaknesses, such as assuming all human coders are equally accurate once the intercoder reliability for training reaches a threshold score. We applied the Biased-Annotator Competence Estimation (BACE) model (Tyler, 2021), which draws on Bayesian modeling to improve human coding. An important contribution of this model is it takes each coder's potential biases and reliability into consideration and treats the "true" label of each message as a latent parameter, with quantifiable estimation uncertainties. In contrast, in conventional human coding, each message will receive a fixed label without estimates for measurement uncertainties. In this extended abstract, we first summarize the weaknesses of conventional human coding; and then apply the BACE model to COVID-19 vaccine Twitter data and compare BACE with other statistical models; finally, we discuss how the BACE model can be applied to improve human coding of latent message features

    DiffusionDet: Diffusion Model for Object Detection

    We propose DiffusionDet, a new framework that formulates object detection as a denoising diffusion process from noisy boxes to object boxes. During the training stage, object boxes diffuse from ground-truth boxes to random distribution, and the model learns to reverse this noising process. In inference, the model refines a set of randomly generated boxes to the output results in a progressive way. Our work possesses an appealing property of flexibility, which enables the dynamic number of boxes and iterative evaluation. The extensive experiments on the standard benchmarks show that DiffusionDet achieves favorable performance compared to previous well-established detectors. For example, DiffusionDet achieves 5.3 AP and 4.8 AP gains when evaluated with more boxes and iteration steps, under a zero-shot transfer setting from COCO to CrowdHuman.     Elastomeric cellular structures provide a promising solution for energy absorption. Their flexible and resilient nature is particularly relevant to protection of human bodies. Herein we develop an elastomeric cellular structure filled with nanoporous material functionalized (NMF) liquid. Due to the nanoscale infiltration in NMF liquid and its interaction with cell walls, the cellular structure has a much enhanced mechanical performance, in terms of loading capacity and energy absorption density. Moreover, it is validated that the structure is highly compressible and self-restoring. Its hyper-viscoelastic characteristics are elucidated

    Original Article Fibrous hamartoma of infancy: a clinical pathological analysis of seventeen cases

    Abstract: To discuss the clinical and pathological features, differential diagnosis and prognosis of fibrous hamartoma of infancy (FHI), seventeen FHI specimens were analyzed with H&amp;E staining and strepavidin peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemistry to detect distinguishing tissue markers. The long-term outcomes of select cases were also obtained. Among the 17 patients (13 males, 4 females, average age 16 months), FHI manifested as a subcutaneous painless mass, primarily on the back of the neck, the upper arms and buttocks. One recurrence was noted among six follow-up cases. The tumors consisted of three main components: fibrous connective tissue; mature fat; and undifferentiated mesenchymal tissue. Immunohistochemistry revealed that fibrous connective tissue was positive for SMA and actin, mature fat tissue was positive for S-100 protein, and undifferentiated mesenchymal tissue was positive for CD34 and was partially positive for actin and SMA. The tumors were negative for desmin, NSE, bcl-2, β-catenin and Ki-67. In brief, FHI is a benign, fibroblastic/myofibroblastic proliferative lesion. Defined histologic features of FHI as presented here would distinguish FHI from similar invasive tumors including infant fibromatosis, calcifying aponeurotic fibroma, fibrous fatty tumor and embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. Once clearly identified, FHI is curable with complete resection
