    Pair production of neutralinos via gluon-gluon collisions

    Get PDF
    The production of a neutralino pair via gluon-gluon fusion is studied in the minimal supersymmetric model(MSSM) at proton-proton colliders. The numerical analysis of their production rates are carried out in the mSUGRA scenario. The results show that this cross section may reach about 80 femto barn for χ~10χ~20\tilde{\chi}^{0}_{1}\tilde{\chi}^{0}_{2} pair production and 23 femto barn for χ~20χ~20\tilde{\chi}^{0}_{2}\tilde{\chi}^{0}_{2} pair production with suitable input parameters at the future LHC collider. It shows that this loop mediated process can be competitive with the quark-antiquark annihilation process at the LHC.Comment: LaTex file, l4 pages, 5 EPS figure

    Nanoparticle elasticity regulates phagocytosis and cancer cell uptake

    The ability of cells to sense external mechanical cues is essential for their adaptation to the surrounding microenvironment. However, how nanoparticle mechanical properties affect cell-nanoparticle interactions remains largely unknown. Here, we synthesized a library of silica nanocapsules (SNCs) with a wide range of elasticity (Young’s modulus ranging from 560 kPa to 1.18 GPa), demonstrating the impact of SNC elasticity on SNC interactions with cells. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the stiff SNCs remained spherical during cellular uptake. The soft SNCs, however, were deformed by forces originating from the specific ligand-receptor interaction and membrane wrapping, which reduced their cellular binding and endocytosis rate. This work demonstrates the crucial role of the elasticity of nanoparticles in modulating their macrophage uptake and receptor-mediated cancer cell uptake, which may shed light on the design of drug delivery vectors with higher efficiency.Yue Hui1, Xin Yi2, David Wibowo1*, Guangze Yang1, Anton P. Pair Production of the Lightest Chargino via Gluon-Gluon Collisions

    Get PDF
    The production of the lightest chargino pair from gluon-gluon fusion is studied in the minimal supersymmetric model(MSSM) at proton-proton colliders. We find that with the chosen parameters, the production rate of the subprocess can be over 2.7 femto barn when the chargino is higgsino-like, and the corresponding total cross section in proton-proton collider can reach 56 femto barn at the LHC in the CP-conserving MSSM. It shows that this loop mediated subprocess can be competitive with the standard Drell-Yan subprocess in proton-proton colliders, especially at the LHC. Furthermore, our calculation shows it would be possible to extract information about some CP-violating phase parameters, if we collected enough chargino pair events.Comment: 39 pages, LaTex, 8 figure

    Full text link
    Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector, the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and (7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

    BESII Detector Simulation

    Full text link
    A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described. Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM

    Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-

    Full text link
    We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7 J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Direct Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+

    Full text link
    The absolute branching fraction of D+μ+νD^+ \to \mu^+ \nu has been directly measured by an analysis of a data sample of about 33 pb1{\rm pb^{-1}} collected around s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV with the BES-II at the BEPC. At these energies, DD^- meson is produced in pair as e+eD+De^+e^-\to D^{+} D^{-}. A total of 5321±149±1605321 \pm 149 \pm 160 DD^- mesons are reconstructed from this data set. In the recoil side of the tagged DD^- mesons, 2.67±1.742.67\pm1.74 purely leptonic decay events of D+μ+νD^+ \to \mu^+ \nu are observed. This yields a branching fraction of BF(D+μ+νμ)=(0.1220.053+0.111±0.010)BF(D^+ \to \mu^+ \nu_{\mu}) = (0.122^{+0.111}_{-0.053}\pm 0.010)%, and a corresponding pseudoscalar decay constant fD+=(371119+129±25)f_{D^+}=(371^{+129}_{-119}\pm 25) MeV.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, Submitted to Physics Letters B in October, 200
