A Comparison of Visual Modeling Notations for Web Services Choreography
The Web Services Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL) is an XML-based language for specifying business protocols for \emph{web services enabled} collaborative processes. The use of visual notations in modeling web services choreography has so far been done in an ad hoc fashion as seen in the literature. This paper presents a choreography example in four different visual modeling notations and compares them with regard to the semantics of WS-CDL. The results are useful for establishing a reliable visual approach to modeling web services choreography
Investigation and characterization of constraint effects on flaw growth during fatigue loading of composite materials
An investigative program is presented in an attempt to add to the current understanding of constraint effects on the response of composite materials under cyclic loading. The objectives were: (1) to use existing data and to develop additional data in order to establish an understanding and quantitative description of flaw growth in unidirectional lamina under cyclic loading at different load direction to fiber direction angles; (2) to establish a similar understanding and description of flaw growth in lamina which are embedded in laminates between other unflawed lamina; (3) to determine the nature of the influence of constraint on flaw growth by quantitatively comparing the results of the tests; and (4) to develop a model and philosophy of constraints effects based on our investigative results

A study of the effectiveness of telepsychiatry-based culturally sensitive collaborative treatment of depressed Chinese Americans
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Chinese American patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) tend to underutilize mental health services and are more likely to seek help in primary care settings than from mental health specialists. Our team has reported that Culturally Sensitive Collaborative Treatment (CSCT) is effective in improving recognition and treatment engagement of depressed Chinese Americans in primary care. The current study builds on this prior research by incorporating telemedicine technology into the CSCT model.</p> <p>Methods/Design</p> <p>We propose a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of a telepsychiatry-based culturally sensitive collaborative treatment (T-CSCT) intervention targeted toward Chinese Americans. Patients meeting the study's eligibility criteria will receive either treatment as usual or the intervention under investigation. The six-month intervention involves: 1) an initial psychiatric interview using a culturally sensitive protocol via videoconference; 2) eight scheduled phone visits with a care manager assigned to the patient, who will monitor the patient's progress, as well as medication side effects and dosage if applicable; and 3) collaboration between the patient's PCP, psychiatrist, and care manager. Outcome measures include depressive symptom severity as well as patient and PCP satisfaction with the telepsychiatry-based care management service.</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>The study investigates the T-CSCT model, which we believe will increase the feasibility and practicality of the CSCT model by adopting telemedicine technology. Oscillator model for dissipative QED in an inhomogeneous dielectric
The Ullersma model for the damped harmonic oscillator is coupled to the
quantised electromagnetic field. All material parameters and interaction
strengths are allowed to depend on position. The ensuing Hamiltonian is
expressed in terms of canonical fields, and diagonalised by performing a
normal-mode expansion. The commutation relations of the diagonalising operators
are in agreement with the canonical commutation relations. For the proof we
replace all sums of normal modes by complex integrals with the help of the
residue theorem. The same technique helps us to explicitly calculate the
quantum evolution of all canonical and electromagnetic fields. We identify the
dielectric constant and the Green function of the wave equation for the
electric field. Both functions are meromorphic in the complex frequency plane.
The solution of the extended Ullersma model is in keeping with well-known
phenomenological rules for setting up quantum electrodynamics in an absorptive
and spatially inhomogeneous dielectric. To establish this fundamental
justification, we subject the reservoir of independent harmonic oscillators to
a continuum limit. The resonant frequencies of the reservoir are smeared out
over the real axis. Consequently, the poles of both the dielectric constant and
the Green function unite to form a branch cut. Performing an analytic
continuation beyond this branch cut, we find that the long-time behaviour of
the quantised electric field is completely determined by the sources of the
reservoir. Through a Riemann-Lebesgue argument we demonstrate that the field
itself tends to zero, whereas its quantum fluctuations stay alive. We argue
that the last feature may have important consequences for application of
entanglement and related processes in quantum devices.Comment: 24 pages, 1 figur
Optimal Location of Sources in Transportation Networks
We consider the problem of optimizing the locations of source nodes in
transportation networks. A reduction of the fraction of surplus nodes induces a
glassy transition. In contrast to most constraint satisfaction problems
involving discrete variables, our problem involves continuous variables which
lead to cavity fields in the form of functions. The one-step replica symmetry
breaking (1RSB) solution involves solving a stable distribution of functionals,
which is in general infeasible. In this paper, we obtain small closed sets of
functional cavity fields and demonstrate how functional recursions are
converted to simple recursions of probabilities, which make the 1RSB solution
feasible. The physical results in the replica symmetric (RS) and the 1RSB
frameworks are thus derived and the stability of the RS and 1RSB solutions are
