    Knowledge level of nursing home employees on urinary incontinence

    Introduction: Urinary incontinence is a common public health problem that increases in frequency with aging. The role of nursing home staff is important in the correct management of this problem. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge about urinary incontinence among healthcare personnel and care workers at nursing homes.Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with workers caring for the elderly and healthcare personnel working at nursing homes affiliated with the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services at the city center of İzmir. The Turkish version of the Incontinence Quiz, for which a Turkish validity and reliability study was conducted by Kara et al., was used as the data collection tool in this study. Data for the study were collected from nursing homes between January and February 2020.Results: The study was conducted on 205 employees (care workers and healthcare personnel). The mean score of nursing home employees from the Turkish Incontinence Quiz was 6.55 ± 2.57. Comparison of the knowledge scores of participants based on their occupation showed that workers caring for the elderly had a lower score than healthcare personnel group (p lt;0.001). According to the educational status and number of years worked, university graduates (p lt;0.001) and those who had worked for ≥ 16 years (p=0.032) had significantly higher scores. Conclusion: This study showed that nursing home employees had moderate level of knowledge about urinary incontinence. Moreover, education and experience were associated with a higher level of knowledge

    Determining Pregnancy Knowledge Need by Using Web-based Interactive Antenatal Counseling

    Giriş: Gelişen teknoloji ile birçok anne-baba adayı internet ortamını bilgi kaynağı olarak kullanmaktadır.Amaç: Web ortamında yapılan interaktif antenatal danışmanlık sürecinde gebelerin bilgi gereksinim alanlarını tanımlamak amacıylayapılmıştır.Yöntem: Araştırma tanımlayıcı bir çalışma olup, http://web.deu.edu.tr/gebelik isimli web sitesi üzerinden yürütülmüştür. Web sayfası biraraştırmacının sorumluluğunda yürütülmüştür. Danışmanlık almak isteyen gebeler web sayfasının yeni kayıt bölümüne üye olmuşlardır. Üyeolan 41 gebe araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Kendilerine verilen şifre yardımıyla danışmanlık sayfasına ulaşmışlar ve sorularınısormuşlardır. Web sayfası üzerinden sorulan soru, araştırmacının e-mailine ulaşmıştır. Soru alındıktan sonra en geç 48 saat içinde e-mailyoluyla danışmanlık verilmiştir. Soru yanıtlandıktan sonra gebenin tam olarak bilgilendirilmesi sağlanıncaya kadar iletişim sürdürülmüştür.Bulgular: Gebelerin yaş ortalaması 29.2±3.6 olup, eğitim düzeyi üniversite veya daha yüksek olanların oranı %92.7'dir. Gebelerin %78'iprimigravidadır. Gebeler toplam 106 adet soru sormuşlardır. Sordukları sorular: gebeliğe, doğuma, fetal sağlığa ve yenidoğana ilişkin olmaküzere dört grupta incelenmiştir. En çok bilgi istenen alan %53.7 oranında gebeliğe ilişkin sorulardan oluşmuştur.Sonuç: Özellikle eğitim düzeyi yüksek olan gebelerin yaşam koşulları ve çalışmaları nedeniyle web ortamından yararlandıkları saptanmıştır.Bu tür interaktif eğitimlerin yaygınlaştırılması anne ve bebek sağlığı açısından yararlı olacaktır. Background: With advancements in technology many expectant parents have begun to use the internet as a source of information.Objectives: This study was conducted for the purpose of defining the types of information needed by pregnant women who use interactiveantenatal counseling on the web.Methods: This descriptive type of study was conducted on the web site: http://web.deu.edu.tr/gebelik. One researcher assumed responsibilityfor maintaining this web page. Pregnant women who wanted counseling became members of the web page in the new registration section. Ofthe members 41 pregnant women comprised the research sample. Using the password given to them they were able to access the counselingpage and ask their questions. The questions asked on the web page were sent to the researcher's email address. After the question wasreceived counseling was sent back by email within 48 hours at the latest. After answering the question communication continued with thepregnant woman until all of her questions were answered to her satisfaction.Results: The pregnant women's mean age was 29.2±3.6 years and 92.7% had a university or higher level of education. Of the pregnantwomen 78% were primigravida. The pregnant women asked a total of 106 questions. The questions that were asked by women wereclassified in four groups about pregnancy, childbirth, fetal health and newborn. The area with the highest percentage of questions waspregnancy at 53.7%.Conclusion: It was determined that, in particular, highly educated pregnant women take advantage of the web because of their life and workconditions. The spread of this type of interactive education would be beneficial to the health of mothers and infants

    Prevalence of urinary incontinence in women aged 18 and over and affecting factors

    The aim of study was to determine the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) in women aged 18 and over and the factors affecting it. The sample of the study consisted of the 1220 women. The results of the study showed that the rate of UI was 26.3%. Prevalence rose as age and body mass index increased. UI rates were also high in women who had long-term constipation and UTI, those who were in menopause, those with a high number of pregnancies, and in those who had undergone a vaginal birth. It is important that measures be taken to prevent UI

    The Effect on the Knowledge Levels of Nursing School Students of the Educational Activities Undertaken for Sexually Transmitted Infections

    This study was made with the objective of determining the effect on the knowledge levels of nursing school students of the educational activities undertaken for sexually transmitted infections (STI). The study was carried out in a single group semi-experimentally in a pre-test-post-test sequence. A total of 120 students, who attended the nursing school, participated in the educational activities and who filled out completely all of the forms, were included in the study. Peer education, plays and panel discussions were held as the educational activities in the study. The educational activities were carried out together with two student groups at the nursing school. The data collection tool used in the study was developed by researchers. It was observed in this research that of the students who participated in the educational activities on the subject of STIs, their knowledge on what are STIs (p = 0.000) and how to protect against these diseases (p = 0.000) were raised. It was determined that the diseases known the most by the students were acquired immune deficiency syndrome, syphilis and gonorrhea. It was determined that the same education did not affect the knowledge level of the students on the subjects of the STI symptoms and means of spreading by contagion. In conclusion, education on the subject of STIs for the university students can be organized with different methods

    The effects of web-based childbirth education program on activities of daily living of pregnant women

    WOS: 000302819100032Purpose: This study was conducted for the purpose of investigating the effect of a web-based pregnancy counseling and childbirth educational program on pregnant women's activities of daily living. Methods: This is a quasi- experimental study. The web site: 'http://web.deu.edu.tr/gebelik' was used in the education, counseling and data collection stages of the study. The study sample consisted of 32 pregnant women in their 12th-26th week of pregnancy. Individual counseling and a two week standard education were given to the pregnant women who participated in the study. In the data collection, forms developed by the researcher were used to determine the pregnant women's activities of daily living (ADL). The pregnant women were assessed before education (BE), as well as one (OM) and two months (TM) after education. Results: The pregnant women's ADL scores steadily increased (p <.001). This result shows that web-based childbirth education and counseling program has a positive effect on pregnant women's ADLs. Conclusions: Web-based childbirth education and counseling can be provided to pregnant women by nurses and midwives
