Interventions and Japanese Economic Recovery

This paper attempts to explain possible reasons and objectives behind the 35 trillion yen (7% of GDP) interventions conducted by the Japanese monetary authorities from January 2003 to March 2004, and to discuss whether the interventions achieved the presumed objectives: making the movement of the yen flexible but orderly, and helping economic recovery. The motivation of starting intervention in January 2003 was to keep the yen from appreciating in the midst of financial and macroeconomic weakness. The economy started to show some strength in the second half of 2003, but interventions continued, with a brief pause in September. Reasons for interventions after September are two-fold. First, the interventions provided opportunities for unsterilized interventions. Status of the CP-PACS Project

The CP-PACS computer with a peak speed of 300 Gflops was completed in March 1996 and has started to operate. We describe the final specification and the hardware implementation of the CP-PACS computer, and its performance for QCD codes. Beardsley on literature, fiction, and nonfiction

This paper attempts to revive interest in the speech act theory of literature by looking into Monroe C. Beardsley's account in particular. Beardsley's view in this respect has received, surprisingly, less attention than deserved. I first offer a reconstruction of Beardsley's account and then use it to correct some notable misconceptions. Next, I show that the reformulation reveals a hitherto unnoticed discrepancy in Beardsley's position and that this can be explained away by a weak version of intentionalism that Beardsley himself actually tolerates. Finally, I assess the real difficulty of Beardsley's theory and its relevance today

In this paper, we propose a SaaS service which prevents shoplifting using image analysis and ERP. In Japan, total damage of shoplifting reaches 450 billion yen. Based on cloud and data analysis technology, we propose a shoplifting prevention service with image analysis of security camera and ERP data check for small shops.
