    The primary purpose of this research study was to determine the relationship between teachers' perceptions of their leadership capacity and competence at Baoshan Experimental School, Shanghai, China. The research instrument was a questionnaire for investigating the teachers' perceptions of their leadership capacity and competence adopted from the previous studies. A total of 120 teachers who were full-time teachers working at the school participated in this study during the academic year of 2020.Mean and Standard Deviation were used to identify teachers' perceptions of their leadership capacity and determine teachers' level of competence. Then, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was then used to determine the significant relationship between teachers' perceptions of leadership capacity and their competence.The findings showed that teachers' perceptions of their leadership capacity and professional competence were high. Moreover, the correlation analysis result showed a strong positive relationship between teachers' perceptions of their leadership capacity and competence at Baoshan Experimental School, Shanghai, China

    Evolution of microstructure and nanohardness of SiC fiber-reinforced SiC matrix composites under Au ion irradiation

    Abstract(#br)Evolution of microstructure and nanohardness of a new type of SiC f /SiC composite under a 6 MeV Au ion irradiation up to 90 displacements per atom at 400 °C was studied. Scanning transmission electron microscopy reveals that the irradiation has induced enrichment of carbon at the grain boundaries in the fibers. This is attributed to the accumulation of C interstitials generated by the irradiation. The disappearance of {200} diffraction ring of 3C–SiC indicates that a phase transition from 3C–SiC to Si has occurred during irradiation. In addition, the hardness of SiC fiber increased after irradiation, which is due to the pinning effect caused by irradiation-induced defects. The pyrolytic-carbon interphase that contains Si-rich nano-grains in the composite has the highest irradiation tolerance as it maintained its basic morphology and graphitic nature after a radiation damage dose up to 90 dpa. Twins are the main internal defects in the SiC matrix of the SiC f /SiC composite, which grew up and resulted in the decrease of the number of twinning boundaries under irradiation. No significant microstructure change has been observed in the SiC matrix except a limited number of dislocation loops at the peak irradiation damage region.     Gender-Specific Differences in Clinical Profile and Biochemical Parameters in Patients with Cushing's Disease: A Single Center Experience

    Cushing's disease (CD) is remarkably prevalent among females; however, more severe clinical presentation and adverse outcomes have been found in males. The purpose of this study was to investigate the overall clinical profile and biochemical parameters in patients with CD to identify the gender differences. Here we describe our series of CD patients referred to our medical center during 2012-2013. Among 73 cases, females presented a marked preponderance compared to males. Males had significantly higher ACTH, BMI, HbA1c, systolic blood pressure, and hemoglobin than females. For the first time, the incidence of fatty liver and hepatic function was also shown to be elevated in males. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to further investigate the correlation of risk factors with hypokalemia, HbA1c, and systolic blood pressure. Gender and serum cortisol were associated with hypokalemia. Age, gender, and serum cortisol were significantly associated with HbA1c. Additionally, only gender was significantly associated with systolic blood pressure. Regarding clinical presentation, purple striae seemed to occur more frequently in males than in females. Thus, more severe clinical presentation, biochemical parameters, and complications were found in males than in females. This result can not be generalized to regular matroids as there exist infinitely many connected cographic matroids, each of which contains a M∗(K5) minor and has arbitrarily large cogirth, that do not have spanning cycles.     Fine-grained tidal flat waterbody extraction method (Fyolov3) for high-resolution remote sensing images

    The tidal flat is long and narrow area along rivers and coasts with high sediment content, so there is little feature difference between the waterbody and the background, and the boundary of the waterbody is blurry. The existing waterbody extraction methods are mostly used for the extraction of large water bodies like rivers and lakes, whereas less attention has been paid to tidal flat waterbody extraction. Extracting tidal flat waterbody accurately from high-resolution remote sensing imagery is a great challenge. In order to solve the low accuracy problem of tidal flat waterbody extraction, we propose a fine-grained tidal flat waterbody extraction method, named FYOLOv3, which can extract tidal flat water with high accuracy. The FYOLOv3 mainly includes three parts: an improved object detection network based on YOLOv3 (Seattle, WA, USA), a fully convolutional network (FCN) without pooling layers, and a similarity algorithm for water extraction. The improved object detection network uses 13 convolutional layers instead of Darknet-53 as the model backbone network, which guarantees the water detection accuracy while reducing the time cost and alleviating the overfitting phenomenon; secondly, the FCN without pooling layers is proposed to obtain the accurate pixel value of the tidal flat waterbody by learning the semantic information; finally, a similarity algorithm for water extraction is proposed to distinguish the waterbody from non-water pixel by pixel to improve the extraction accuracy of tidal flat water bodies. Compared to the other convolutional neural network (CNN) models, the experiments show that our method has higher accuracy on the waterbody extraction of tidal flats from remote sensing images, and the IoU of our method is 2.43% higher than YOLOv3 and 3.7% higher than U-Net (Freiburg, Germany)

    FOXM1 promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression by regulating KIF4A expression

    Abstract Background Forkhead box M1 (FOXM1) is a proliferation-associated transcription factor of the forkhead box proteins superfamily, which includes four isoforms FOXM1a, b, c, and d. FOXM1 has been implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive. In this study, we aim to clarify the molecular basis for FOXM1-mediated HCC progression. Methods Bioinformatic analysis was used to explore the differentially expressed genes predicting HCC proliferation. The expression of FOXM1 and kinesin family member (KIF)4A was confirmed by western blotting and immunohistochemistry in HCC tissues. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was conducted to analyze the clinical impact of FOXM1 and KIF4A on HCC. The effect of FOXM1 on the regulation of KIF4A expression was studied in cell biology experiments. The interaction between KIF4A and FOXM1 was analyzed by chromatin immunoprecipitation and luciferase experiments. A series of experiments was performed to explore the functions of FOXM1/KIF4A in HCC progression, such as cell proliferation, cell growth, cell viability, and cell cycle. A xenograft mouse model was used to explore the regulatory effect of FOXM1-KIF4A axis on HCC tumor growth. Results FOXM1 and KIF4A were overexpressed in human primary HCC tissues compared to that in matched adjacent normal liver tissue and are significant risk factors for HCC recurrence and shorter survival. We found that KIF4A was dominantly regulated by FOXM1c among the four isoforms, and further identified KIF4A as a direct downstream target of FOXM1c. Inhibiting FOXM1 decreased KIF4A expression in HCC cells, whereas its overexpression had the opposite effect. FOXM1-induced HCC cell proliferation was dependent on elevated KIF4A expression as KIF4A knockdown abolished FOXM1-induced proliferation of HCC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion The FOXM1–KIF4A axis mediates human HCC progression and is a potential therapeutic target for HCC treatment

    Autophagy in retinal ganglion cells in a rhesus monkey chronic hypertensive glaucoma model.

    Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by physiological intraocular hypertension that causes damage to the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). In the past, RGC damage in POAG was suggested to have been attributed to RGC apoptosis. However, in the present study, we applied a model closer to human POAG through the use of a chronic hypertensive glaucoma model in rhesus monkeys to investigate whether another mode of progressive cell death, autophagy, was activated in the glaucomatous retinas. First, in the glaucomatous retinas, the levels of LC3B-II, LC3B-II/LC3B-I and Beclin 1 increased as demonstrated by Western blot analyses, whereas early or initial autophagic vacuoles (AVi) and late or degraded autophagic vacuoles (AVd) accumulated in the ganglion cell layer (GCL) and in the inner plexiform layer (IPL) as determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Second, lysosome activity and autophagosome-lysosomal fusion increased in the RGCs of the glaucomatous retinas, as demonstrated by Western blotting against lysosome associated membrane protein-1 (LAMP1) and double labeling against LC3B and LAMP1. Third, apoptosis was activated in the glaucomatous eyes with increased levels of caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-3 and an increased number of TUNEL-positive RGCs. Our results suggested that autophagy was activated in RGCs in the chronic hypertensive glaucoma model of rhesus monkeys and that autophagy may have potential as a new target for intervention in glaucoma treatment

    A Value-Added Utilization Method of Sugar Production By-Products from Rice Straw: Extraction of Lignin and Evaluation of Its Antioxidant Activity

    To value-added utilization of the rice straw, two types of lignin were extracted from the by-products of sugar production. The ether-extracted lignin with a purity of 98.7% was extracted from the pretreatment filtrate with two times the concentrated filtrate volume of ether, where the lignin yield was 6.62 mg/g of the rice straw. The ball-milled lignin with a purity of 99.6% was extracted from the milled enzymatic hydrolysis residue with a 1,4-dioxane solution, where the revolution speed and grinding time were 300 rpm and 12 h, respectively. The yield of ball-milled lignin was 34.52 mg/g of the rice straw, which was 421.5% higher than that extracted from extract-free rice straw. In the process of rice straw pretreatment and lignin extraction, 76.43% by mass of phosphotungstic acid catalyst and approximately 98% by volume of 1,4-dioxane solution could be recycled and reused. Compared with the soda lignin extracted from papermaking black liquor, the scavenging rates of DPPH radical and ABTS+ radical of ether-extracted lignin increased by 36.26% and 41.18%, respectively, while the above scavenging rates of ball-milled lignin increased by 30.22% and 37.75%, respectively. Moreover, the reducing power of the two extracted lignins was also stronger than that of soda lignin. The ether-extracted lignin and ball-milled lignin have the potential to be developed as natural macromolecular antioxidants
