Length–weight relationship (LWR) and length–length relationship (LLR) were estimated for six species of ponyfishes captured in the Persian Gulf, Iran. The LWRs indicated isometric growth in ornate ponyfish (Equulites lineolatus), common ponyfish (Leiognathus equulus) and deep pugnose ponyfish (Secutor ruconius) species, positive allometric growth in striped ponyfish (Aurigequula fasciata) and negative allometric growth in decorated ponyfish (Nuchequula gerreoides) and orangefin ponyfish (Photopectoralis bindus). LWR and LLR parameters for one of the species (E. lineolatus) are given for the first time. The relationships between TL, FL and SL were all linear and highly correlated (for all cases: r2 > 0.97).Dužinsko-maseni odnos (LWR) i odnos dužina-dužina (LLR) procijenjene su na šest vrsta riba ulovljenih u Perzijskom zaljevu, Iran.

This paper illustrates the approach adopted by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) of the State of Qatar for the advanced chemical and rheological characterization of bituminous binders (both neat and modified). The ultimate objective of testing is to create a database of employed binders, which may be meaningful for the optimization of the selection of materials and for the consequent enhancement of pavement performance. This paper provides an illustration of employed testing procedure and briefly discusses typical experimental results

Preliminary Study on the Use of Reclaimed Asphalt in Public Works Authority Road Projects in the State of Qatar

This paper describes the outcomes of a preliminary study focused on the evaluation of four full-scale pavement sections in which reclaimed asphalt (RAP) was used in partial substitution of virgin aggregates during the production of asphalt mixes. Considered mixes were produced with different RAP percentages and were thereafter laid on site for the formation of asphalt base course layers of pavements in local roads of the State of Qatar. For comparative purposes, two trials included asphalt mixes containing no RAP, and in one case use was made of a rejuvenating agent. Activities carried out for the monitoring of field trials included analysis of component materials, critical observation of production and laying operations, assessment of the most relevant characteristics of produced asphalt mixes, and evaluation of the degree of compaction achieved during construction. Experimental results were of crucial importance for the introduction of RAP-related paving technologies in the State of Qatar, providing a meaningful background to the preparation of the "Ashghal Recycling Manual" issued by Ashghal and of the draft updated version of Qatar Construction Specifications

Competitional settlement of brown alga Iyengaria stellata and soft coral Zoanthous sansibaricus on muddy and muddy-rubble intertidal substrate in the Hormuz island

The effect of substrates on the surface cover by the soft coral, Zoanthus sansibaricus, and the brown alga, Iyengaria stellata, and their competitional condition, was compared in Hormuz Island by estimating of coverage area in 40 quadrates (50×50 cm). This soft coarl (Zoanthid) is a dominant species in the island’s intertidal zone and I. stellata is a dominant macroalgea most of the year. Significant negative correlation (p<0.01; r =-0.607) revealed competition between the two species for settlement on the two substrates. Soft coral with 61.7% coverage was dominant vs. 16.8% for brown algae on muddy-rubble substrate, but on sandy-rubble substrate, the brown algae was dominant with 37.8% coverage vs. 19.5% for the soft coral. It seems that better competitional conditions in settlement on unconsolidated substrate have some advantages for Z. sansibaricus

Welding and Corrosion Behavior of AISI H13 Welds: The Effect of Filler Metal on the Microstructural Evolutions

    No full text
Welding of AISI H13 tool steel which is mainly used in mold making is difficult due to the some alloying elements and it high hardenability. The effect filler metal composition on the microstructural changes, phase evolutions, and hardness during gas tungsten arc welding of AISI H13 hot work tool steel was investigated. Corrosion resistance of each weld was studied. For this purpose, four filler metals i.e. ER 312, ER NiCrMo-3, ER 80S, and 18Ni maraging steel were supplied. Potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to study the corrosion behavior of weldments. It was found the ER 80S weld showed the highest hardness owing to fully martensitic microstructure. The hardness in ER 312 and ER NiCrMo3 weld metals was noticeably lower than that of the other weld metals in which the microstructures mainly consisted of austenite phase. The results showed that the corrosion rate of ER 312 weld metal was lower than that other weld metals which is due to the high chromium content in this weld metal. The corrosion rate of ER NiCrMo-3 was lower than that of 18Ni maraging weld. The obtained results from EIS tests confirm the findings of potentiodynamic polarization tests
