Continuous and complete conversion of high concentration p-nitrophenol in a flow-through membrane reactor
Here, we report on a green and effective method for the continuous and complete conversion of high concentrations of p-nitrophenol (PNP) using a flow-through membrane reactor and less NaBH4. The catalytic membrane was successfully fabricated by loading Pd nanoparticles onto the surface of a branched TiO2 nanorod-functionalized ceramic membrane. The modification with branched TiO2 nanorods can significantly improve the loading amount of Pd nanoparticles onto ceramic membranes, resulting in enhanced catalytic performance. With 6 mg of Pd, 93 L m−2 hr−1 of flux density and 8.04 cm2 of membrane surface area in the flow-through membrane reactor, PNP at a concentration of 4,000 ppm can be converted to high-value p-aminophenol using less NaBH4 (using a molar ratio of NaBH4:PNP of 9.6) within 24 s at 30°C. More importantly, the conversion can be continuously and stably performed for 240 min

ABSTRACT Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a devastating disease characterized by muscle wasting, loss of mobility and death in early adulthood. Satellite cells are muscle-resident stem cells responsible for the repair and regeneration of damaged muscles. One pathological feature of DMD is the progressive depletion of satellite cells, leading to the failure of muscle repair. Here, we attempted to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying satellite cell ablation in the dystrophin mutant mdx mouse, a well-established model for DMD. Initial muscle degeneration activates satellite cells, resulting in increased satellite cell number in young mdx mice. This is followed by rapid loss of satellite cells with age due to the reduced selfrenewal ability of mdx satellite cells. In addition, satellite cell composition is altered even in young mdx mice, with significant reductions in the abundance of non-committed (Pax7 + and Myf5 − ) satellite cells. Using a Notch-reporter mouse, we found that the mdx satellite cells have reduced activation of Notch signaling, which has been shown to be necessary to maintain satellite cell quiescence and self-renewal. Concomitantly, the expression of Notch1, Notch3, Jag1, Hey1 and HeyL are reduced in the mdx primary myoblast. Finally, we established a mouse model to constitutively activate Notch signaling in satellite cells, and show that Notch activation is sufficient to rescue the self-renewal deficiencies of mdx satellite cells. These results demonstrate that Notch signaling is essential for maintaining the satellite cell pool and that its deficiency leads to depletion of satellite cells in DMD
Sciences for The 2.5-meter Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST)
The Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) is a dedicated photometric survey
facility under construction jointly by the University of Science and Technology
of China and Purple Mountain Observatory. It is equipped with a primary mirror
of 2.5m in diameter, an active optical system, and a mosaic CCD camera of 0.73
Gpix on the main focus plane to achieve high-quality imaging over a field of
view of 6.5 square degrees. The installation of WFST in the Lenghu observing
site is planned to happen in the summer of 2023, and the operation is scheduled
to commence within three months afterward. WFST will scan the northern sky in
four optical bands (u, g, r, and i) at cadences from hourly/daily to
semi-weekly in the deep high-cadence survey (DHS) and the wide field survey
(WFS) programs, respectively. WFS reaches a depth of 22.27, 23.32, 22.84, and
22.31 in AB magnitudes in a nominal 30-second exposure in the four bands during
a photometric night, respectively, enabling us to search tremendous amount of
transients in the low-z universe and systematically investigate the variability
of Galactic and extragalactic objects. Intranight 90s exposures as deep as 23
and 24 mag in u and g bands via DHS provide a unique opportunity to facilitate
explorations of energetic transients in demand for high sensitivity, including
the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational-wave events detected by the
second/third-generation GW detectors, supernovae within a few hours of their
explosions, tidal disruption events and luminous fast optical transients even
beyond a redshift of 1. Meanwhile, the final 6-year co-added images,
anticipated to reach g about 25.5 mag in WFS or even deeper by 1.5 mag in DHS,
will be of significant value to general Galactic and extragalactic sciences.
The highly uniform legacy surveys of WFST will also serve as an indispensable
complement to those of LSST which monitors the southern sky.Comment: 46 pages, submitted to SCMP
A Study of a New Intelligent Key System for Substation
Aiming at the demand of production management of power system, a new intelligent key system applied to substation is created and established. Based on the operating mode of the system, the paper puts forward the design of intelligent key based on RFID technology. It expounds the hardware of the system, which adopts advanced ARM technology to develop an intelligent key system, combined with RF signal recognition technology, OLED display, data storage, keyboard input and other functions, in order to meet the functional requirements for intelligence. Its software uses the embedded μC/OS-Ⅱto achieve the signal reception of the new intelligent key system. After tested, the key works well. The system is characterized by more portability, large storage capacity, more functions, friendly interface and other noticeable features
Impact of Illness and Medical Expenditure on Household Consumptions: A Survey in Western China
National Natural Science Foundation of China [71201139]; Bureau of Statistics of China [2011LD002]Background: The main goal of this study is to examine the associations between illness conditions and out-of-pocket medical expenditure with other types of household consumptions. In November and December of 2011, a survey was conducted in three cities in western China, namely Lan Zhou, Gui Lin and Xi An, and their surrounding rural areas. Results: Information on demographics, income and consumption was collected on 2,899 households. Data analysis suggested that the presence of household members with chronic diseases was not associated with characteristics of households or household heads. The presence of inpatient treatments was significantly associated with the age of household head (p-value 0.03). The level of per capita medical expense was significantly associated with household size, presence of members younger than 18, older than 65, basic health insurance coverage, per capita income, and household head occupation. Adjusting for confounding effects, the presence of chronic diseases was negatively associated with the amount of basic consumption (p-value 0.02) and the percentage of basic consumption (p-value 0.01), but positively associated with the percentage of insurance expense (p-value 0.02). Medical expenditure was positively associated with all other types of consumptions, including basic, education, saving and investment, entertainment, insurance, durable goods, and alcohol/tobacco. It was negatively associated with the percentage of basic consumption, saving and investment, and insurance. Conclusions: Early studies conducted in other Asian countries and rural China found negative associations between illness conditions and medical expenditure with other types of consumptions. This study was conducted in three major cities and surrounding areas in western China, which had not been well investigated in published literature. The observed consumption patterns were different from those in early studies, and the negative associations were not observed. This study may complement the existing rural studies and provide useful information on western Chinese cities
Standing wave performance test of IDT-SAW transducer prepared by silk-screen printing
With the advantages of high performance and low loss, interdigital surface acoustic wave (IDT-SAW) transducers are widely used in the fields of nondestructive testing, communication and broadcasting. The production, performance and application of surface acoustic wave (SAW) actuators has become a research hotspot. Based on the basic principle of SAW, an IDT-SAW transducer is designed and fabricated using silk-screen printing in this work. The experiment results show that in terms of SAW performance, the fabricated IDT-SAW transducer can generate standing wave fields comparable to those generated using traditional fabrication methods. The resonant frequency response of the IDT-SAW transducer and SAW attenuation coefficient were obtained by experiments. It has provided a method to test the transducer sensing performance by using fabricated IDT-SAW transducer
