    EDUCATION ON DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE OF DENTAL HYGIENISTS IN VOCATIONAL UNIVERSITIES/COLLEGES IN JAPAN

    Due to the increasing global frequency of disasters, disaster preparedness training is becoming more important. The fact that Japan has many earthquakes is well known worldwide. In the field of nursing, the importance of disaster preparedness education in universities has gradually increased in Japan. Many people lose their homes in earthquakes and have to live in shelters. The relationship between pneumonia and the oral cavity environment is understood; for example, in certain shelter environments that provide an insufficient water supply, oral cavity hygiene is affected. Keeping a clean oral cavity prevents death from pneumonia, especially in elderly people. To keep a clean oral cavity, the role of dental hygienists is important. In Japan, education on disaster preparedness and response for dental hygienists in vocational university/college is rarely provided. Therefore, this is the focus of our research. We administered an anonymous questionnaire survey to 119 dental hygienist training schools by mailing them surveys asking about their education on disaster preparedness and response for dental hygienists. In this paper, we report on the education on disaster preparedness and response for dental hygienists in vocational universities and colleges in Japan.&nbsp

    Torsional-Lateral Coupled Vibration Of Centrifugal Compressor System At Interharmonic Frequencies Related To Control Loop Frequencies In Voltage Source Inverter.

    Case StudyCentrifugal compressor train in a refinery experienced high vibration problem due to torsional resonance. Sidebands in the VFD output current based on VFD control loop frequencies were identified as the root cause. In this VFD, stator current was used for torque and speed control, hence control loop frequencies had a potential to generate such sidebands. Frequencies of this type of sidebands widely vary with the rotation speed (proportional to harmonics of the fundamental frequency), hence it is difficult to avoid resonance at the train torsional natural frequency. In addition, even if a compressor system is proven to have sufficient safety margin against high cycle fatigue failure due to the torque pulsation by this mechanism, such minute torque pulsation may have a potential to excite high lateral vibration at speed adjusting gear. If unpredicted or overlooked during design stage, such high vibration may disturb plant operation. This case study therefore proposes guidelines to predict such vibration levels by a simplified torsional-lateral coupled vibration analysis

    SNP HiTLink: a high-throughput linkage analysis system employing dense SNP data

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>During this recent decade, microarray-based single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data are becoming more widely used as markers for linkage analysis in the identification of loci for disease-associated genes. Although microarray-based SNP analyses have markedly reduced genotyping time and cost compared with microsatellite-based analyses, applying these enormous data to linkage analysis programs is a time-consuming step, thus, necessitating a high-throughput platform.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We have developed SNP HiTLink (SNP High Throughput Linkage analysis system). In this system, SNP chip data of the Affymetrix Mapping 100 k/500 k array set and Genome-Wide Human SNP array 5.0/6.0 can be directly imported and passed to parametric or model-free linkage analysis programs; MLINK, Superlink, Merlin and Allegro. Various marker-selecting functions are implemented to avoid the effect of typing-error data, markers in linkage equilibrium or to select informative data.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The results using the 100 k SNP dataset were comparable or even superior to those obtained from analyses using microsatellite markers in terms of LOD scores obtained. General personal computers are sufficient to execute the process, as runtime for whole-genome analysis was less than a few hours. This system can be widely applied to linkage analysis using microarray-based SNP data and with which one can expect high-throughput and reliable linkage analysis.</p

    High and low molecular weight crossovers in the longest relaxation time dependence of linear cis-1,4 polyisoprene by dielectric relaxations

    The dielectric relaxation of cis-1,4 Polyisoprene [PI] is sensitive not only to the local and segmental dynamics but also to the larger scale chain (end-to-end) fluctuations. We have performed a careful dielectric investigation on linear PI with various molecular weights in the range of 1 to 320 kg/mol. The broadband dielectric spectra of all samples were measured isothermally at the same temperature to avoid utilizing shift factors. For the low and medium molecular weight range, the comparisons were performed at 250 K to access both the segmental relaxation and normal mode peaks inside the available frequency window (1 mHz–10 MHz). In this way, we were able to observe simultaneously the effect of molecular mass on the segmental dynamics—related with the glass transition process—and on the end-to-end relaxation time of PI and thus decouple the direct effect of molecular weight on the normal mode from that due to the effect on the monomeric friction coefficient. The latter effect is significant for low molecular weight (M w < 33 kg/mol), i.e., in the range where the crossover from Rouse dynamics to entanglement limited flow occurs. Despite the conductivity contribution at low frequency, careful experiments allowed us to access to the normal mode signal for molecular weights as high as M w = 320 kg/mol, i.e., into the range of high molecular weights where the pure reptation behavior could be valid, at least for the description of the slowest chain modes. The comparison between the dielectric relaxations of PI samples with medium and high molecular weight was performed at 320 K. We found two crossovers in the molecular weight dependence of the longest relaxation time, the first around a molecular weight of 6.5 ± 0.5 kg/mol corresponding to the end of the Rouse regime and the second around 75 ± 10 kg/mol. Above this latter value, we find a power law compatible with exponent 3 as predicted by the De Gennes theory

    Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor arising from the greater omentum: Case report

    Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are rare soft tissue tumors that arise from a peripheral nerve or exhibit nerve sheath differentiation. Most of these tumors arise on the trunk, extremities, or head and neck regions; they are very rarely located in the abdominal cavity. The patient was a 71-year-old man who was referred to our hospital for a mass and pain in the right lower abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a large (9 × 9 cm), well-circumscribed, lobulated, heterogeneously enhanced mass in the pelvis. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a large mass in the greater omentum, and the tumor was completely excised. Histopathological analysis revealed that the tumor was composed of spindle cells with high mitotic activity. On staining the tumor, positive results were obtained for S-100 but negative results were obtained for c-kit, cluster of differentiation (CD)34, α-smooth muscle actin, and desmin. These findings strongly supported a diagnosis of MPNST primarily arising from the greater omentum. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of an MPNST arising from the greater omentum. In this report, we have described the case of a patient with an MPNST arising from the greater omentum and have discussed the clinical characteristics and management of MPNSTs

    Advantages of radial volumetric breath-hold examination (VIBE) with k-space weighted image contrast reconstruction (KWIC) over Cartesian VIBE in liver imaging of volunteers simulating inadequate or no breath-holding ability

    To investigate the superiority of radial volumetric breath-hold examination (r-VIBE) with k-space weighted image contrast reconstruction (KWIC) over Cartesian VIBE (c-VIBE) for reducing motion artefacts. We acquired r-VIBE-KWIC and c-VIBE images in 10 healthy volunteers. Each acquisition lasted 24 seconds. The volunteers held their breath for decreasing lengths of time during the acquisitions, from 24 to 0 seconds (protocols A-E). Magnetic resonance images at the level of the right portal vein and confluence of hepatic veins were assessed by two readers using a five-point scale with a higher number indicating a better study. The mean scores for the complete r-VIBE-KWIC series (r-VIBEfull) and first r-VIBE-KWIC series (r-VIBE1) were not significantly lower than those for c-VIBE in any protocols. The mean scores for c-VIBE were lower than those for r-VIBEfull and r-VIBE1 in protocols C and D. The mean score for c-VIBE was lower than that for r-VIBEfull in protocol E. The mean score for the eighth r-VIBE-KWIC series (r-VIBE8) was lower than that for c-VIBE only in protocol B. r-VIBE-KWIC minimised artefacts relative to c-VIBE at any slice location.
