    The problem of the occurrence of semi-slow speed oscillations of an unbalanced rotor during its passage through the resonance zone has been solved using the method of direct separation of motions. It has been proved that when a stationary regime is established, semi-slow damping oscillations of the rotor speed arise in the region of the Sommerfeld effect, they are the result of the superimposement of free accompanying oscillations with a relatively low frequency on forced fast oscillations. In this respect, the initial amplitudes of such oscillations are quite large, and oscillations damping is relatively slow

    In the article, the author reflects on the problem of creating control and evaluation tools for diagnosing the quality of training of graduates of a basic school in the history of Belarus in the process of their final certification, taking into account the implementation of a competency-based approach. The content of the term "quality of education" is revealed in the framework of monitoring the educational achievements of students in the process of assimilation of the content of educational historical material and the corresponding methods of educational and cognitive activity.     The paper proposes methods for improvement of coating quality which are obtained with the help of electric contact sintering of powders. These methods presuppose heating of metallic powder located between a part and a roller electrode at the expense of thermal energy released by electric current with active resistance. Stabilization of properties along length of a surface to be hardened is obtained with the help of temperature regime regulation in the sintering zone and uniformity of properties along width is ensured by technical solutions that create favourable conditions for formation of edge parts of the sintered layer. The preliminary powder packing using an effect of “flowing wedge” and two-stage heating significantly improve physical and chemical properties of the coatings. Предложены пути повышения качества покрытий, полученных электроконтактным припеканием порошков, предусматривающих нагрев металлического порошка, расположенного между деталью и роликовым электродом, за счет тепловой энергии, выделяемой электрическим током на активном сопротивлении. Стабилизация свойств по длине упрочняемой поверхности достигается регулированием температурного режима в зоне припекания, а однородность свойств по ширине обеспечивается техническими решениями, создающими благоприятные условия для формирования краевых участков припекаемого слоя. Предварительное уплотнение порошка с использованием эффекта «текучего клина» и двухстадийный нагрев значительно улучшают физико-механические свойства покрытий

    Corpus-Based Teaching of German Compound Nouns and Lexical Bundles for Improving Academic Writing Skills

    This study highlights the problem of the lack of German specialized corpora for German for specific purposes (GSP) courses for engineering students and describes a project aiming at the development of such a corpus, the Kod.ING corpus. The authors show the relevance of the Kod.ING corpus in meeting the needs of Master’s degree engineering students at St Petersburg Polytechnic University who are studying lower-level German. At the preliminary stage of the pedagogical experiment, nine compound nouns and eight lexical bundles were selected from the Kod.ING corpus. These were taught to students through hands-on and hands-off data-driven learning (DDL) activities. The immediate and delayed post-tests proved the effectiveness of short DDL interventions in terms of acquisition of target vocabulary. The follow-up survey revealed students’ particular interest in hands-on activities with the Russian National Corpus (RNC). In conclusion, further research and pedagogical applications are suggested.L’étude met en évidence le problème lié au manque de corpus spécialisés allemands pour les cours d’allemand à des fins spécifiques (AFS) pour les étudiants en ingénierie et décrit un projet visant à développer un tel corpus, le corpus Kod.ING. Les auteurs montrent la pertinence du corpus Kod.ING pour répondre aux besoins des étudiants en master en ingénierie à l’Université polytechnique de Saint-Pétersbourg, apprenant l’allemand de niveau assez faible. Au stade préliminaire de l’expérience pédagogique, 9 noms composés et 8 « blocs lexicaux » ont été choisis à partir du corpus Kod.ING. Ceux-ci ont été enseignés aux étudiants grâce à des activités d’ABD pratiques et de non-intervention. Les post-tests immédiats et différés ont prouvé l’efficacité des interventions courtes d’ABD pour l’acquisition du vocabulaire cible. L’enquête de suivi a révélé un intérêt particulier de la part des étudiants pour des activités pratiques à partir du corpus national de la langue russe (CNR). En conclusion, des pistes de recherches et des applications pédagogiques sont suggérées

    Transactional approach in assessment of operational performance of companies in transport infrastructure

    Purpose: Offer an alternative method to assess operational performance of companies in transport infrastructure of a region by making a comparison between transaction costs. The method is supposed to be a cross-functional and possibly applied to an analysis of economic entities of a different order (country, region, sector, companies) while evaluating “viscosity” / complexity of the outside and the inside. Design/methodology/approach: The paper includes an analysis of various methodological approaches to assess a development level of the transport infrastructure in a region. Within the author's approach and for purposed of the research, an index of transaction capacity or the transactionalness index is proposed, which determines a level of transaction costs calculated against the cost of production and revenue. The approach is piloted using the region-wise consolidated financial data of companies involved in the Russian transport infrastructure for 2005/2013. Findings: The proposed alternative way to measure corporate operating efficiency has proved its academic consistency. A specific comparison between the transaction costs using the transactionalness index allows first to identify companies or regions/sectors, where there is excess complexity of economical communication in bargaining. Secondly, the index does not only point out indirectly to a degree of development in the institutional environment, but also the infrastructure (the transport one in the example given). Third, the transactionalness level may say of uncertainty and risks. As an addition to theoretical and methodological aspects of transaction costs, the authors justify an approach to their size estimation, as well as their differentiation dividing them into two groups: those of a natural type and a background type. In a course of their discussion, the authors have concluded that there are such transaction costs in place, which are standard in a manner of speaking. Originality/value: There is a discussion whether it is scientifically reasonable to use an index of transactionalness. There are reasons for applicability of the alternative approach to assess operational performance of companies in transport infrastructure as an indicative criterion of favouring external conditions to execute exchange transactions. According to the authors, a high level of transactionalness is associated with a low development level of transport infrastructure in a region.
