    Content-Based Hyperspectral Image Compression Using a Multi-Depth Weighted Map With Dynamic Receptive Field Convolution

    In content-based image compression, the importance map guides the bit allocation based on its ability to represent the importance of image contents. In this paper, we improve the representational power of importance map using Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) block, and propose multi-depth structure to reconstruct non-important channel information at low bit rates. Furthermore, Dynamic Receptive Field convolution (DRFc) is introduced to improve the ability of normal convolution to extract edge information, so as to increase the weight of edge content in the importance map and improve the reconstruction quality of edge regions. Results indicate that our proposed method can extract an importance map with clear edges and fewer artifacts so as to provide obvious advantages for bit rate allocation in content-based image compression. Compared with typical compression methods, our proposed method can greatly improve the performance of Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), structural similarity (SSIM) and spectral angle (SAM) on three public datasets, and can produce a much better visual result with sharp edges and fewer artifacts. As a result, our proposed method reduces the SAM by 42.8% compared to the recently SOTA method to achieve the same low bpp (0.25) on the KAIST dataset

    Displacement Investigation of KNN-Bitumen-Based Piezoceramics in Asphalt Concrete

    Piezoelectric material has excellent characteristics of electromechanical coupling so that it could be widely applied in structural health monitoring field. Nondestructive testing of piezoelectric technique becomes a research focus on piezoelectric field. Asphalt concrete produces cumulative damage under the multiple repeated vehicle load and natural situation, so it is suited material and structure for nondestructive application. In this study, a test system was established by driving power of piezoceramic, laser displacement sensor, computer, and piezo-embedded asphalt concrete. Displacement, hysteresis, creeps, and dynamic behavior of KNN piezoceramic element embedded in asphalt concrete were tested. The results indicate that displacement output attained 0.4 μm to 0.7 μm when the loads were from 0 N to 150 N. The hysteresis was not obvious when the load was from 0 N to 100 N, aside from higher loads. The creep phenomenon can be divided into two parts: uptrend and balance. The more serious the asphalt binder ageing is, the larger the displacement is, when piezo-asphalt concrete has already been in serious ageing

    Cathepsin S Deficiency Results in Abnormal Accumulation of Autophagosomes in Macrophages and Enhances Ang II–Induced Cardiac Inflammation

    BACKGROUND: Cathepsin S (Cat S) is overexpressed in human atherosclerotic and aneurysmal tissues and may contributes to degradation of extracellular matrix, especially elastin, in inflammatory diseases. We aimed to define the role of Cat S in cardiac inflammation and fibrosis induced by angiotensin II (Ang II) in mice. METHODS AND RESULTS: Cat S-knockout (Cat S(-/-)) and littermate wild-type (WT) C57BL/6J mice were infused continuously with Ang II (750 ng/kg/min) or saline for 7 days. Cat S(-/-) mice showed severe cardiac fibrosis, including elevated expression of collagen I and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), as compared with WT mice. Moreover, macrophage infiltration and expression of inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor α, transforming growth factor β and interleukin 1β) were significantly greater in Cat S(-/-) than WT hearts. These Ang II-induced effects in Cat S(-/-) mouse hearts was associated with abnormal accumulation of autophagosomes and reduced clearance of damaged mitochondria, which led to increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) in macrophages. CONCLUSION: Cat S in lysosomes is essential for mitophagy processing in macrophages, deficiency in Cat S can increase damaged mitochondria and elevate ROS levels and NF-κB activity in hypertensive mice, so it regulates cardiac inflammation and fibrosis
