Quantitative and empirical demonstration of the Matthew effect in a study of career longevity
The Matthew effect refers to the adage written some two-thousand years ago in
the Gospel of St. Matthew: "For to all those who have, more will be given."
Even two millennia later, this idiom is used by sociologists to qualitatively
describe the dynamics of individual progress and the interplay between status
and reward. Quantitative studies of professional careers are traditionally
limited by the difficulty in measuring progress and the lack of data on
individual careers. However, in some professions, there are well-defined
metrics that quantify career longevity, success, and prowess, which together
contribute to the overall success rating for an individual employee. Here we
demonstrate testable evidence of the age-old Matthew "rich get richer" effect,
wherein the longevity and past success of an individual lead to a cumulative
advantage in further developing his/her career. We develop an exactly solvable
stochastic career progress model that quantitatively incorporates the Matthew
effect, and validate our model predictions for several competitive professions.
We test our model on the careers of 400,000 scientists using data from six
high-impact journals, and further confirm our findings by testing the model on
the careers of more than 20,000 athletes in four sports leagues. Our model
highlights the importance of early career development, showing that many

Information flow between composite stock index and individual stocks
We investigate the strength and the direction of information transfer in the
U.S. stock market between the composite stock price index of stock market and
prices of individual stocks using the transfer entropy. Through the
directionality of the information transfer, we find that individual stocks are

Five Key Recommendations for a Korean Protestant Pastor Concerning Understanding and Applying Biblical Ethics in Finances: John Chrysostom as a Model for Ministry
The purpose of this project is investigating the biblical view of the principle of economics and also study of the South Korean pastors\u27 role concerning the poverty and the wealthy. This project utilizes the New Testament first and foremost, and I will read avidly John Chrysostom\u27s sermons on the indigent and the wealthy, as well as many books about clergy ethics and statistical information from the church ministry in Korea. The author writer hopes that through this dissertation a pastor who is longing for a frugal life will gain new insight about biblical economic perspectives and desire to constantly transmit to other believer\u27s truth on poverty, reaffirming the role of the wealthy, the almsgiving, and the poor within his Christian community
Analytical Modeling of Rheological Postbuckling Behavior of Wood-Based Composite Panels Under Cyclic Hygro-Loading
This study was conducted to develop analytical models to predict postbuckling behavior of woodbased composite panels under cyclic humidity conditions. Both the Rayleigh method and von Karman theory of nonlinear plate with imperfection were used to obtain a closed form solution to the hygrobuckling and postbuckling. In addition, mechano-sorptive creep effects were also taken into account for the derivation of analytical models. The closed-form solutions derived for both isotropic and orthotropic materials showed a good agreement with the experimental results in terms of the center deformation of hardboard, especially in the case of the edge movements. The unrecovery deformation was much greater at the first cycle and then decreased as the number of cyclic hygro-loading increased
Characteristics of the Korean stock market correlations
In this study, we establish a network structure of the Korean stock market,
one of the emerging markets, with its minimum spanning tree through the
correlation matrix. Base on this analysis, it is found that the Korean stock
market doesn't form the clusters of the business sectors or of the industry
categories. When the MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International Inc.) index is
exploited, we found that the clusters of the Korean stock market is formed.
This finding implicates that the Korean market, in this context, is

A RUNX2 stabilization pathway mediates physiologic and pathologic bone formation
The osteoblast differentiation capacity of skeletal stem cells (SSCs) must be tightly regulated, as inadequate bone formation results in low bone mass and skeletal fragility, and over-exuberant osteogenesis results in heterotopic ossification (HO) of soft tissues. RUNX2 is essential for tuning this balance, but the mechanisms of posttranslational control of RUNX2 remain to be fully elucidated. Here, we identify that a CK2/HAUSP pathway is a key regulator of RUNX2 stability, as Casein kinase 2 (CK2) phosphorylates RUNX2, recruiting the deubiquitinase herpesvirus-associated ubiquitin-specific protease (HAUSP), which stabilizes RUNX2 by diverting it away from ubiquitin-dependent proteasomal degradation. This pathway is important for both the commitment of SSCs to osteoprogenitors and their subsequent maturation. This CK2/HAUSP/RUNX2 pathway is also necessary for HO, as its inhibition blocked HO in multiple models. Collectively, active deubiquitination of RUNX2 is required for bone formation and this CK2/HAUSP deubiquitination pathway offers therapeutic opportunities for disorders of inappropriate mineralization
The effect of low temperature aging on the mechanical property & phase stability of Y-TZP ceramics
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Recently Yttrium-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) has been introduced due to superior flexural
strength and fracture toughness compared to other dental ceramic systems. Although zirconia has outstanding mechanical properties, the
phenomenon of decrease in the life-time of zirconia resulted from degradation in flexural strength after low temperature aging has been reported.
PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to investigate degradation of flexural strength of Y-TZP ceramics after various low temperature
aging treatments and to evaluate the phase stability and micro-structural change after aging by using X-ray diffraction analysis and a scanning
electron microscope (SEM). MATERIAL AND METHODS. Y-TZP blocks of Vita In-Ceram YZ (Vita Zahnfabrik, Bad Sa ¨ckingen,
Germany) were prepared in 40 mm (length) x 4 mm (width) x 3 mm (height) samples. Specimens were artificially aged in distilled water by heattreatment
at a temperature of 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, and 225℃ for 10 hours, in order to induce the phase transformation at the surface.
To measure the mechanical property, the specimens were subjected to a four-point bending test using a universal testing machine (Instron model
3365; Instron, Canton, Mass, USA). In addition, X-ray diffraction analysis (DMAX 2500; Rigaku, Tokyo, Japan) and SEM (Hitachi s4700; Jeol
Ltd, Tokyo, Japan) were performed to estimate the phase transformation. The statistical analysis was done using SAS 9.1.3 (SAS institute,
USA). The flexural strength data of the experimental groups were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and to detect statistically significant
differences (α= .05). RESULTS. The mean flexural strength of sintered Vita In-Ceram YZ without autoclaving was 798 MPa. When applied
aging temperature at below 125℃ for 10 hours, the flexural strength of Vita In-Ceram YZ increased up to 1,161 MPa. However, at above 150℃,
the flexural strength started to decrease. Although low temperature aging caused the tetragonal-to-monoclinic phase transformation related
to temperature, the minimum flexural strength was above 700 MPa. CONCLUSION. The monoclinic phase started to appear after aging treatment
above 100℃. With the higher aging temperature, the fraction of monoclinic phase increased. The ratio of monoclinic/tetragonal + monoclinic
phase reached a plateau value, circa 75% above 175℃. The point of monoclinic concentration at which the flexural strength begins to
