    A 3-D security modeling platform for social IoT environments

    Social Internet-of-Things (SIoT) environment comprises not only smart devices but also the humans who interact with these IoT devices. The benefits of such system are overshadowed due to the cyber security issues. A novel approach is required to understand the security implication under such a dynamic environment while taking both the social and technical aspects into consideration. This paper addressed such challenges and proposed a 3-D security modeling platform that can capture and model the security requirements in the SIoT environment. The modeling process is graphical notation based and works as a security extension to the Business Process Model and Notation. Still, it utilizes the latest 3-D game technology; thus, the security extensions are generated through the third dimension. Consequently, the introduction of security extensions will not increase the complexity of the original SIoT scenario, while keeping all the key information on the same platform. Together with the proposed security ontology, these comprehensive security notations created a unique platform that aims at addressing the ever complicated security issues in the SIoT environment

    Cisplatin is a common anticancer drug able to kill tumor cells, but it causes adverse reactions in the kidney, digestive tract, and other systems. The antitumor effects of cisplatin are mainly due to its ability to bind to the DNA in tumor cells to prevent replication, thereby reducing RNA and protein syntheses, leading to cell damage and death. Cisplatin has a wide range of applications; it can be used to treat cervical, thyroid, ovarian, and other cancers. Cisplatin has a beneficial therapeutic effect, but its therapeutic selectivity is poor. In addition to eliminating diseased target cells, cisplatin can damage normal cells; in women of reproductive age being treated for cancer, cisplatin can lead to ovarian function impairment, premature ovarian failure (POF), and/or infertility. Therefore, reducing the adverse effects of cisplatin on ovarian function is an important topic in clinical research.     Levinson's theorem for the Schr\"{o}dinger equation with a cylindrically symmetric potential in two dimensions is re-established by the Sturm-Liouville theorem. The critical case, where the Schr\"{o}dinger equation has a finite zero-energy solution, is analyzed in detail. It is shown that, in comparison with Levinson's theorem in non-critical case, the half bound state for PP wave, in which the wave function for the zero-energy solution does not decay fast enough at infinity to be square integrable, will cause the phase shift of PP wave at zero energy to increase an additional Ď€\pi.Comment: Latex 11 pages, no figure and accepted by P.R.A (in August); Email: [email protected], [email protected]

    Fiber optic pressure sensing with conforming elastomers

    A novel pressure sensing scheme based on the effect of a conforming elastomer material on the transmission spectrum of tilted fiber Bragg gratings is presented. Lateral pressure on the elastomer increases its contact angle around the circumference of the fiber and strongly perturbs the optical transmission of the grating. Using an elastomer with a Young's modulus of 20 MPa, a Poisson ratio of 0.48, and a refractive index of 1.42, the sensor reacts monotonically to pressures from 0 to 50 kPa (and linearly from 0 to 15 kPa), with a standard deviation of 0:25 kPa and maximum error of 0:5 kPa. The data are extracted from the optical transmission spectrum using Fourier analysis and we show that this technique makes the response of the sensor independent of temperature, with a maximum error of 2% between 25 °C and 75 °C. Finally, other pressure ranges can be reached by using conforming materials with different modulii or applying the pressure at different orientations

    The genome and transcriptome of Trichormus sp NMC-1: insights into adaptation to extreme environments on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

    The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) has the highest biodiversity for an extreme environment worldwide, and provides an ideal natural laboratory to study adaptive evolution. In this study, we generated a draft genome sequence of cyanobacteria Trichormus sp. NMC-1 in the QTP and performed whole transcriptome sequencing under low temperature to investigate the genetic mechanism by which T. sp. NMC-1 adapted to the specific environment. Its genome sequence was 5.9 Mb with a G+C content of 39.2% and encompassed a total of 5362 CDS. A phylogenomic tree indicated that this strain belongs to the Trichormus and Anabaena cluster. Genome comparison between T. sp. NMC-1 and six relatives showed that functionally unknown genes occupied a much higher proportion (28.12%) of the T. sp. NMC-1 genome. In addition, functions of specific, significant positively selected, expanded orthogroups, and differentially expressed genes involved in signal transduction, cell wall/membrane biogenesis, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, and energy production and conversion were analyzed to elucidate specific adaptation traits. Further analyses showed that the CheY-like genes, extracellular polysaccharide and mycosporine-like amino acids might play major roles in adaptation to harsh environments. Our findings indicate that sophisticated genetic mechanisms are involved in cyanobacterial adaptation to the extreme environment of the QTP
