Purpose: China has a long history of art, including watercolour painting, which has garnered international acclaim. China can gain recognition for its artistic accomplishments and contribute to the global art community by preserving and promoting the practise of watercolour painting both domestically and internationally. Ā  Theoretical framework: The tale of the development of Chinese watercolour painting is intricate and multidimensional, reflecting the impact of several historical events (Li, 2023; Yin,2022). These elements have all contributed to the creation of this stunning and lasting art form, from the rich philosophical and cultural traditions of China to the impact of aesthetic trends and technical advancements. Ā  Design/Methodology/Approach: A total of 495 respondents participated in the survey comprised of 110 watercolour artist collectors, 220 watercolour paintings and 165lectors and business intermediaries 165. This study was a cross-sectional study where the data collection period is from August to October 2021. Using Smart PLS, the collected data is analysed. Ā  Findings: The study revealed that watercolour painting is a popular art form among both artists and collectors. Watercolour paintings have been a popular art form for centuries, and this study confirms that their popularity remains strong among both artists and collectors. The delicate beauty of watercolours, with their translucent washes of colour and soft edges, is particularly appealing to those who appreciate the subtleties of art. Ā  Research, practical & social implications: This study found that watercolour paintings are highly valued by business intermediaries, who recognize their potential as investments. In fact, many galleries and auction houses specialize in selling watercolours, and the market for these works continues to grow. Ā  Originality/Value: It is important to note that not all watercolour paintings are created equal - some are more highly prized than others based on factors such as the artist's reputation, the quality of the materials used, and the subject matter depicted. Overall, this study underscores the enduring appeal of watercolour paintings and their continued relevance in today's art world

Artificial noise assisted secure interference networks with wireless power transfer

Interference alignment (IA) is a remarkable technique to manage interference, and artificial noise (AN) can be utilized to combat one main threat of security, passive eavesdropping. Nevertheless, in the existing schemes AN is only eliminated at each legitimate receiver, which is a waste of energy. In this paper, we propose an AN assisted IA scheme with wireless power transfer (WPT). In the proposed scheme, AN is generated by each transmitter along with data streams, which can disrupt the eavesdropping without introducing any additional interference. Due to the fact that the transmit power of AN should be high enough to ensure the security, energy harvesting (EH) is also performed in the scheme. A power splitter is equipped at each receiver, which can divide the received signal, including desired signal, interference and AN, into two parts: one for information decoding (ID) and the other for EH. To optimize the antieavesdropping performance, the total transmit power of AN is maximized by jointly optimizing the information transmit power and the coefficient of power splitting, with the requirements of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and harvested power satisfied. Due to the non-convex nature of the problem, a suboptimal solution is also derived to calculate the closed-form solutions with extremely low computational complexity. Extensive simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme

Privacy preservation via beamforming for NOMA

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been proposed as a promising multiple access approach for 5G mobile systems because of its superior spectrum efļ¬ciency. However, the privacy between the NOMA users may be compromised due to the transmission of a superposition of all usersā€™ signals to successive interference cancellation (SIC) receivers. In this paper, we propose two schemes based on beamforming optimization for NOMA that can enhance the security of a speciļ¬c private user while guaranteeing the other usersā€™ quality of service (QoS). Speciļ¬cally, in the ļ¬rst scheme, when the transmit antennas are inadequate, we intend to maximize the secrecy rate of the private user, under the constraint that the other usersā€™ QoS is satisļ¬ed. In the second scheme, the private userā€™s signal is zero-forced at the other users when redundant antennas are available. In this case, the transmission rate of the private user is also maximized while satisfying the QoS of the other users. Due to the nonconvexity of optimization in these two schemes, we ļ¬rst convert them into convex forms and then, an iterative algorithm based on the ConCave-Convex Procedure is proposed to obtain their solutions. Extensive simulation results are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme

Protected agriculture matters: Year-round persistence of Tuta absoluta in China where it should not

Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) originates from the South American tropics but has become a major invasive pest of tomato and other Solanaceae crops worldwide. Agricultural protected facilities (APFs) such as greenhouses and plastic tunnels may provide thermal conditions that allow the survival of T. absoluta in temperate zones with cold winters. In this study, a CLIMEX model was used to investigate the dual effects of increasing use of APFs and climate warming on the potential distribution and seasonal dynamics of T. absoluta in China. Our model showed that the northern boundary for year-round population persistence in China, ignoring APFs, was approximately 30Ā°N, covering about 21% of Chinaā€™s area suitable under current climate. The modelled suitable area increased to 31% and northern boundary for year-round population persistence shifted to 40Ā°N in 2080 under global warming. When APF refuges are included, the potential suitable area was 78% under the current climate and 79% under global warming. This suggests that, in the future, the increasing use of APFs will increase the areas at risk of T. absoluta invasion significantly more than global warming because APFs effectively protect T. absoluta from harsh northern winters. In addition, vegetable production in surrounding open fields will be at risk of invasion during milder seasons when APFs are opened and T. absoluta can disperse. Therefore, the micro-climate of APFs should be considered as part of the invasion process, and Integrated Pest Management should be simultaneously implemented inside and outside APFs for the rational management T. absoluta. This work was supported by National Key R&D program of China (2021YFD1400200). BackgroundTrichilemmal carcinoma (TLC) is a rare malignant cutaneous adnexal neoplasm, with no relatively comprehensive research.ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to perform an updated statistical analysis so as to better understand TLCā€™s epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment.MethodsThe diagnosis and treatment of three TLC cases in our department were summarized. Then, all TLC cases published in the literature were retrieved for a comprehensive analysis, followed by the analysis of global trends and regional distribution, demographic characteristics, clinical features, pathogenesis, histopathological features, and treatment and prognosis of TLC.ResultsOf the 231 cases, the incidence of TLC has shown an upward trend recently, especially in China, in Asia. The susceptible population is men aged 60ā€“80 and women over 80, and the most prone location is head and neck. The phenotype of TLC is not always typical and may be misdiagnosed because of the coexistence of other diseases. There is a linear relationship between the diameter and its duration or thickness. UV, locally present skin lesions, trauma, scarring, organ transplantation, and genetic disorders may trigger the occurrence of TLC. Periodic acidā€“Schiff staining and CD34, but not Epithelial Membrane Antigen (EMA), were helpful in the diagnosis of TLC. Although effective, surgical excision and Mohs micrographic surgery need further improvement to reduce recurrence of TLC. Carcinoma history is an independent risk factor for TLC recurrence.LimitationsThe limitation of this study is the lack of randomized controlled trial on TLC treatment and recurrence.ConclusionTLC has the possibility of invasive growth and recurrence, especially in patients with longer duration and carcinoma history

The Transcription Factor T-Bet Is Required for Optimal Type I Follicular Helper T Cell Maintenance During Acute Viral Infection

Follicular helper T cells (TFH cells), known as the primary ā€œhelpersā€ of the germinal center (GC) reaction, promote the humoral immune response to defend against various pathogens. Under conditions of infection by different types of pathogens, many shared transcription factors (TFs), such as Bcl-6, TCF-1, and Maf, are selectively enriched in pathogen-specific TFH cells, orchestrating TFH cell differentiation and function. In addition, TFH cells also coexpress environmentally associated TFs as their conventional T cell counterparts (such as T-bet, GATA-3, or ROR-Ī³t, which are expressed in Th1, Th2, or Th17 cells, respectively). These features likely indicate both the lineage-specificity and environmental adaption of the TFH cell responses. However, the extent to which the TFH cell response relies on these environmentally specific TFs is not completely understood. Here, we found that T-bet was specifically expressed in Type I TFH cells but not Type II TFH cells. While dispensable for the early fate commitment of TFH cells, T-bet was essential for the maintenance of differentiated TFH cells, promoting their proliferation, and inhibiting their apoptosis during acute viral infection. Microarray analysis showed both similarities and differences in transcriptome dependency on T-bet in TFH and TH1 cells, suggesting the distinctive role of T-bet in TFH cells. Collectively, our findings reveal an important and specific supporting role for T-bet in type I TFH cell response, which can help us gain a deeper understanding of TFH cell subsets

SMART: A Scan-Based Movement-Assisted Sensor Deployment Method in Wireless Sensor Networks

    No full text
Abstractā€”The efficiency of sensor networks depends on the coverage of the monitoring area. Although, in general, a sufficient number of sensors are used to ensure a certain degree of redundancy in coverage, a good sensor deployment is still necessary to balance the workload of sensors. In a sensor network with locomotion facilities, sensors can move around to self-deploy. The movement-assisted sensor deployment deals with moving sensors from an initial unbalanced state to a balanced state. Therefore, various optimization problems can be defined to minimize different parameters, including total moving distance, total number of moves, communication/computation cost, and convergence rate. In this paper, we first propose a Hungarian-algorithm-based optimal solution, which is centralized. Then, a localized Scan-based Movement-Assisted sensoR deploymenT method (SMART) and its several variations that use scan and dimension exchange to achieve a balanced state are proposed. An extended SMART is developed to address a unique problem called communication holes in sensor networks. Extensive simulations have been done to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme

Secure transmission via beamforming optimization for NOMA Networks

    Get PDF
Owing to the eminent performance gain, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been regarded as a promising approach to achieve high throughput and low latency for the next-generation networks. Nevertheless, the potential adversaries can still pose a threat to the secure transmission in NOMA systems. Hence, in this article, secure transmission schemes based on beamforming optimization are designed to combat both internal and external eavesdropping for downlink multi-input single-output NOMA networks. Using the transmit beamforming design, we first propose two schemes to protect the privacy of a specific NOMA user in the presence of untrusted users. Then, the sum secrecy rate optimization problem is studied to combat the external eavesdropper through optimizing the precoding vectors, when the channel state information (CSI) is available. In addition, two secure beam forming strategies with the help of artificial noise and inter-user interference are proposed without eavesdropping CSI, respectively. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes, and some open issues are discussed as well
