    Techno-economic analysis of advanced biofuel production based on bio-oil gasification

    This paper evaluates the economic feasibility of a hybrid production pathway combining fast pyrolysis and bio-oil gasification. The conversion process is simulated with Aspen Plus® for a 2000 t d-1 facility. Techno-economic analysis of this fast pyrolysis and bio-oil gasification pathway has been conducted to assess the economic feasibility. A total capital investment of 438millionhasbeenestimatedandtheminimumfuelsellingprice(MSP)is438 million has been estimated and the minimum fuel selling price (MSP) is 5.6 per gallon of gasoline equivalent. The sensitivity analysis shows that the MSP is most sensitive to internal rate of return, fuel yield, biomass feedstock cost, and fixed capital investment. Monte-Carlo simulation shows that MSP for bio-oil gasification would be more than $6/gal with a probability of 0.24, which indicates this pathway is still at high risk with current economic situation

    Cotton boll localization method based on point annotation and multi-scale fusion

    Cotton is an important source of fiber. The precise and intelligent management of cotton fields is the top priority of cotton production. Many intelligent management methods of cotton fields are inseparable from cotton boll localization, such as automated cotton picking, sustainable boll pest control, boll maturity analysis, and yield estimation. At present, object detection methods are widely used for crop localization. However, object detection methods require relatively expensive bounding box annotations for supervised learning, and some non-object regions are inevitably included in the annotated bounding boxes. The features of these non-object regions may cause misjudgment by the network model. Unlike bounding box annotations, point annotations are less expensive to label and the annotated points are only likely to belong to the object. Considering these advantages of point annotation, a point annotation-based multi-scale cotton boll localization method is proposed, called MCBLNet. It is mainly composed of scene encoding for feature extraction, location decoding for localization prediction and localization map fusion for multi-scale information association. To evaluate the robustness and accuracy of MCBLNet, we conduct experiments on our constructed cotton boll localization (CBL) dataset (300 in-field cotton boll images). Experimental results demonstrate that MCBLNet method improves by 49.4% average precision on CBL dataset compared with typically point-based localization state-of-the-arts. Additionally, MCBLNet method outperforms or at least comparable with common object detection methods

    Association between dietary inflammation index and female infertility from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey: 2013-2018

    ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores and infertility in US adults aged 18 to 45.MethodsData were gathered from the 2013-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). In total, 3496 women were included in the study. To examine the relationship between DII, EDII and infertility, a weighted multivariable logistic regression analysis using continuous factors or categorical variables grouped by quartiles was conducted. Using subgroup analysis stratified based on DII and infertility features, the association between DII and infertility has been further studied. In order to determine whether there was a nonlinear relationship between DII and infertility, restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was carried out.ResultsFor statistical analysis, a total of 3496 individuals — 367 patients with infertility and 3129 persons without infertility — were included. A multivariable logistic regression study revealed a positive relationship between DII and infertility. A significant difference in subgroup analysis was shown in age group and race, although RCS analysis demonstrated nonlinear relationship between the DII and infertility.ConclusionFor participants aged 18-45 years, higher DII scores were positively correlated with infertility. In addition, anti-inflammatory diets might improve infertility outcomes

    Effect of moxibustion on the expression of GDNF and its receptor GFRα3 in the colon and spinal cord of rats with irritable bowel syndrome

    Background: Moxibustion treatment has been found to ameliorate clinical symptoms including abdominal pain, diarrhoea and constipation in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Herein we investigated the mechanisms underlying the use of moxibustion in a rat model of IBS. Methods: In our study, an IBS model was established in rats by colorectal distension (CRD) stimulus and mustard oil enema. The rats were randomly divided into a normal group, model group, mild moxibustion group, electroacupuncture group, probiotic group and dicetel group. Abdominal withdrawal reflex (AWR) scores were determined within 90 min of the last treatment. The expression of GDNF/GFRα3 protein and mRNA in the colon and spinal cord were detected by immunohistochemistry and quantitative real-time-PCR, respectively. Results: The IBS model rats had significantly higher AWR scores than the normal group (P<0.01). After mild moxibustion treatment, the AWR score was significantly reduced (20 mm Hg, P<0.05; 40 mm Hg, 60 mm Hg and 80 mm Hg, P<0.01). The model group showed significantly more colonic glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF/GFRα3 (GDNF family receptor α3) protein and mRNA expression in the colon and spinal cord than the normal group (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the expression of GDNF/GFRα3 protein and mRNA in the colon and spinal cord of the rats were significantly decreased in the mild moxibustion group (colon: GDNF and GFRα3 protein, P<0.01; GDNF and GFRα3 mRNA, P<0.01; spinal cord: GDNF and GFRα3 protein, P<0.01; GDNF mRNA, P<0.05, GFRα3 mRNA, P<0.01). Conclusions: Our data suggest that moxibustion therapy may mitigate CRD-induced increases in the expression of GDNF and its receptor GFRα3 in the colon and spinal cord in a rat model of IBS

    DNA directed self-assembly of shape-controlled hydrogels

    Using DNA as programmable, sequence specific ‘glues’, shape-controlled hydrogel units are self-assembled into prescribed structures. Here we report that aggregates are produced using hydrogel cubes with edge length ranging from 30 micrometers to 1 millimeter, demonstrating assembly across scales. In a simple one-pot agitation reaction, 25 dimers are constructed in parallel from 50 distinct hydrogel cube species, demonstrating highly multiplexed assembly. Using hydrogel cuboids displaying face-specific DNA glues, diverse structures are achieved in aqueous and in interfacial agitation systems. These include dimers, extended chains, and open network structures in an aqueous system; and dimers, chains of fixed length, T-junctions, and square shapes in the interfacial system, demonstrating the versatility of the assembly system
