    Balanced geological section for extensional tectonic basin and its implication: An example from southern Songliao Basin

    挤压构造的平衡地质剖面分析已经广泛应用于造山带构造分析, 但伸展构造区的平衡地质剖面分析实例仍然很少. 运用盆地分析的技术与方法, 分层序或阶段将地质构造依次恢复、地层逐层回剥, 并通过在松辽盆地南部吉林两井油田扶余油层4 条剖面的实践, 复原出不同时代盆地构造与地层发育的连续剖面, 揭示出松辽盆地南部主要构造样式是以浅表构造层次的负花状构造及深层剥离断层发育为特征; 断层生长指数、盆地的伸展史和伸展量等参数显示, 晚白垩世是构造转型的重要阶段, 此前主要为走滑构造样式形成阶段, 此后则主要为伸展滑脱构造发育阶段. 在此基础上, 提出松辽盆地具有伸展- 走滑双重力学构造性质, 可能是一个弧后构造盆地.The balanced geological sect ion has been widely used for the analysis of orogenic belt, but it is infrequent for ex tensional basins. In this paper, 4 extensional balanced geological sect ion analysis were practiced in Fuyu oil layer of Liangjing , Jilin oilfield, southern Songliao basin with the technology and method, including deformation history restoration, decompaction and erosion restoration. The structure of different ages and the continuous sedimentary sections have been restored. T he result s show that the structural styles possess the characteristics of negative flower structure in the shallow level and ex tensional detachment in deep level. The parameters, including fault growth index, the basin ex tensional history and fault detachment depth, indicate that Late Cretaceous is an important stage for the structure transferring mainly with a strike-slip style before this time and an ex tensional structure and detachment after this time. Therefore, a basin model with twin dynamic property and back-arc characters is proposed.published_or_final_versio

    Rhymes: a shared virtual memory system for non-coherent tiled many-core architectures

    The rising core count per processor is pushing chip complexity to a level that hardware-based cache coherency protocols become too hard and costly to scale. We need new designs of many-core hardware and software other than traditional technologies to keep up with the ever-increasing scalability demands. The Intel Single-chip Cloud Computer (SCC) is a recent research processor exemplifying a new cluster-on-chip architecture which promotes a software-oriented approach instead of hardware support to implementing shared memory coherence. This paper presents a shared virtual memory (SVM) system, dubbed Rhymes, tailored to such a new processor kind of non-coherent and hybrid memory architectures. Rhymes features a two-way cache coherence protocol to enforce release consistency for pages allocated in shared physical memory (SPM) and scope consistency for pages in per-core private memory. It also supports page remapping on a per-core basis to boost data locality. We implement Rhymes on the SCC port of the Barrelfish OS. Experimental results show that our SVM outperforms the pure SPM approach used by Intel's software managed coherence (SMC) library by up to 12 times, with superlinear speedups (due to L2 cache effect) noted for applications with strong data reuse patterns.published_or_final_versio

    Low-molecular-weight organic acids exuded by Mangrove (Kandelia candel (L.) Druce) roots and their effect on cadmium species change in the rhizosphere

    Cadmium (Cd) accumulation has been found in large areas of estuaries due to emissions from municipal waste incinerators, car exhausts, residues from metalliferous mining and the smelting industry, and the use of sludge or urban composts, pesticides and fertilizers. In these areas, mangroves have been observed to possess a tolerance to high levels of Cd and it is hypothesized that low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) produced at the soil-root interface (rhizosphere) may play an important role in the availability of Cd to these plants. Changes in both LMWOAs and Cd bioavailability, directly or indirectly related to the Cd stress were studied in the laboratory. A rhizobox technique was used for 6 months under growth in air-conditioned greenhouse with natural illumination and the relative humidity of 85%, the temperature ranging from 26 to 32 degrees C, in increasing Cd concentration stress conditions (0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm). Six-month-old Kandelia candel (L.) Druce seedlings which grown in the rhizoboxes were selected to examine their root exudates. The results showed that monocarboxylic acids (formic, acetic, lactic, butyric and propionic acids), and di- and tricarbonxylic acids (maleic, fumaric, citric and L-tartaric acids) were found in root exudates. Citric, lactic and acetic acids being dominant took up 76.85-97.87% of the total LMWOAs in root exudations. Fumaric acid was only found where mangroves were growing on 20 ppm Cd. Root exudates reduced pH by 0.2-0.5 pH units in the rhizosphere compare to the bulk soil. The proportion of exchangeable Cd and Cd bound to carbonate had a positive correlation to total LMWOAs in the rhizosphere soil. Root exudates induced changes in soil Cd species under control conditions, consisting of lower exchangeable Cd compared with increasing stress. Results indicate that the measurement of LMWOAs may be included as early biomarkers in a plant bioassay to assess the phytotoxicity of Cd-contaminated soils on mangrove plants. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V.     Contamination and potential biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in mangrove sediments of Xiamen, China

    Five stations were established in the Fenglin mangrove area of Xiamen, China to determine the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the numbers of PAH-degrading bacteria in surface sediments. Assessing the biodegradation potential of indigenous microorganisms and isolating the high molecule weight (HMW)-PAH degrading bacteria was also one of the aims of this work. The results showed that the total PAH concentration of sediments was 222.59 ng g(-1) dry weight, whereas the HMW-PAH benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) had the highest concentration among 16 individual PAH compounds. The variation in the numbers of PAH-degrading bacteria was 2.62 x 10(2)-5.67 x 10(4) CFU g(-1) dry weight. The addition of PAHs showed a great influence in increasing the microbial activity in mangrove sediments. A bacterial consortium, which could utilize BaP as the sole source of carbon and energy, and which was isolated from mangrove sediments and enriched in liquid medium for nearly one year degraded 32.8% of BaP after 63 days incubation.
