Local spin and charge properties of beta-Ag0.33V2O5 studied by 51V NMR
Local spin and charge properties were studied on beta-Ag0.33V2O5, a
pressure-induced superconductor, at ambient pressure using 51V-NMR and
zero-field-resonance (ZFR) techniques. Three inequivalent Vi sites (i=1, 2, and
3) were identified from 51V-NMR spectra and the principal axes of the
electric-field-gradient (EFG) tensor were determined in a metallic phase and
the following charge-ordering phase. We found from the EFG analysis that the V1
sites are in a similar local environment to the V3 sites. This was also
observed in ZFR spectra as pairs of signals closely located with each other.
These results are well explained by a charge-sharing model where a 3d1 electron
is shared within a rung in both V1-V3 and V2-V2 two-leg ladders.Comment: 12pages, 16figure
Fundamental investigation of ultraviolet radiation effects in polymeric film-forming materials
A literature search from 1958 to present was conducted on the effect of ultraviolet radiation on polymeric materials, with particular emphasis on vacuum photolysis, mechanisms of degradation, and energy transfer phenomena. The literature from 1958 to 1968 was searched manually, while the literature from 1968 to present was searched by using a computerized keyword system. The primary objective was to provide the necessary background information for the design of new or modified materials with improved stability to the vacuum-radiation environment of space
Passivity-Based Control of Human-Robotic Networks with Inter-Robot Communication Delays and Experimental Verification
In this paper, we present experimental studies on a cooperative control
system for human-robotic networks with inter-robot communication delays. We
first design a cooperative controller to be implemented on each robot so that
their motion are synchronized to a reference motion desired by a human
operator, and then point out that each robot motion ensures passivity.
Inter-robot communication channels are then designed via so-called scattering
transformation which is a technique to passify the delayed channel. The
resulting robotic network is then connected with human operator based on
passivity theory. In order to demonstrate the present control architecture, we
build an experimental testbed consisting of multiple robots and a tablet. In
particular, we analyze the effects of the communication delays on the human
operator's behavior
Magnetic and transport properties of the spin-state disordered oxide La0.8Sr0.2Co_{1-x}Rh_xO_{3-\delta}
We report measurements and analysis of magnetization, resistivity and
thermopower of polycrystalline samples of the perovskite-type Co/Rh oxide
LaSrCoRhO. This system constitutes a
solid solution for a full range of ,in which the crystal structure changes
from rhombohedral to orthorhombic symmetry with increasing Rh content . The
magnetization data reveal that the magnetic ground state immediately changes
upon Rh substitution from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic with increasing
near 0.25, which is close to the structural phase boundary. We find that one
substituted Rh ion diminishes the saturation moment by 9 , which implies
that one Rh ion makes a few magnetic Co ions nonmagnetic (the low
spin state), and causes disorder in the spin state and the highest occupied
orbital. In this disordered composition (), we find that
the thermopower is anomalously enhanced below 50 K. In particular, the
thermopower of =0.5 is larger by a factor of 10 than those of =0 and 1,
and the temperature coefficient reaches 4 V/K which is as large as
that of heavy-fermion materials such as CeRuSi.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, accepted to Phys. Rev.
An ASCA Study of the High Luminosity SNR G349.7+0.2
We present ASCA observations of supernova remnant (SNR) G349.7+0.2. The
remnant has an irregular shell morphology and is interacting with a molecular
cloud, evident from the presence of OH(1720 MHz) masers and shocked molecular
gas. The X-ray morphology is consistent with that at radio wavelengths, with a
distinct enhancement in the south. The X-ray emission from the SNR is well
described by a model of a thermal plasma which has yet to reach ionization
equilibrium. The hydrogen column of ~6.0 X 10^{22} cm^{-2} is consistent with
the large distance to the remnant of ~22 kpc estimated from the maser
velocities. We derive an X-ray luminosity of L_x(0.5-10.0 keV)= 1.8 X 10^{37}
d_{22}^2 erg/s, which makes G349.7+0.2 one of the most X-ray luminous
shell-type SNRs known in the Galaxy. The age of the remnant is estimated to be
about 2800 yrs. The ambient density and pressure conditions appear similar to
those inferred for luminous compact SNRs found in starburst regions of other
galaxies, and provides support for the notion that these may be the result of
SNR evolution in the vicinity of dense molecular clouds.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Accepted for publication in Ap
Performance and loads data from an outdoor hover test of a Lynx tail rotor
A Lynx tail rotor was tested in hover at the Outdoor Aerodynamic Research Facility at NASA Ames Research Center. The test objectives were to measure the isolated rotor performance to provide a baseline for subsequent testing, and to operate the rotor throughout the speed and collective envelope before testing in the NFAC 40- by 80-Foot Wind Tunnel. Rotor forces and blade bending moments were measured at ambient wind conditions from zero to 6.23 m/sec. The test envelope was limited to rotor speeds of 1550 to 1850 rpm and minus 13 deg to plus 20 deg of blade collective pitch. The isolated rotor performance and blade loads data are presented
