Perception of urge-to-cough and dyspnea in healthy smokers with decreased cough reflex sensitivity
中学校における障害のある生徒の体育授業に関する研究 : 近畿地区の実態調査から
The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of physical education classes for junior high school students with disabilities in the Kinki Region of Japan. Valid responses were received from 80 of 200 schools targeted for the survey (collection ratio:40%). It was found that in nearly all schools physical education classes for students with disabilities were conducted while maintaining interraction with regular classes. Physical education teachers felt the significance of having students with disabilities participate in regular physical education classes, but did not actively obtain qualifications or information on adapted sports. The difficulty of practicing team sports, machine exercise, swimming, and martial arts in classes for students with disabilities was confirmed
Suzaku Observation of HCG 62: Temperature, Abundance, and Extended Hard X-ray Emission Profiles
We present results of 120 ks observation of a compact group of galaxies
HCG~62 () with Suzaku XIS and HXD-PIN\@. The XIS spectra for four
annular regions were fitted with two temperature {\it vapec} model with
variable abundance, combined with the foreground Galactic component. The
Galactic component was constrained to have a common surface brightness among
the four annuli, and two temperature {\it apec} model was preferred to single
temperature model. We confirmed the multi-temperature nature of the intra-group
medium reported with Chandra and XMM-Newton, with a doughnut-like high
temperature ring at radii 3.3--6.5 in a hardness image. We found Mg, Si, S,
and Fe abundances to be fairly robust. We examined the possible
``high-abundance arc'' at southwest from the center, however Suzaku
data did not confirm it. We suspect that it is a misidentification of an excess
hot component in this region as the Fe line. Careful background study showed no
positive detection of the extended hard X-rays previously reported with ASCA,
in 5--12 keV with XIS and 12--40 keV with HXD-PIN, although our upper limit did
not exclude the ASCA result. There is an indication that the X-ray intensity in
region is % higher than the nominal CXB level (5--12 keV),
and Chandra and Suzaku data suggest that most of this excess could be due to
concentration of hard X-ray sources with an average photon index of
. Cumulative mass of O, Fe and Mg in the group gas and the
metal mass-to-light ratio were derived and compared with those in other groups.
Possible role of AGN or galaxy mergers in this group is also discussed.Comment: 29 pages with 9 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ Vol 60,

Notch controls the number of intraepithelial TCRαβ+CD8αα+ T cells
Intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) expressing CD8αα on αβ T cells (TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs) have suppressive capabilities in enterocolitis, but the mechanism that maintains homeostasis and cell number is not fully understood. Here, we demonstrated that the number of TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs was severely reduced in mice lacking recombination signal binding protein for immunoglobulin kappa J region (Rbpj) or Notch1 and Notch2 in T cells. Rbpj-deficient TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs expressed low levels of Atp8a2, which encodes a protein with flippase activity that regulates phospholipid asymmetry of plasma membrane such as flipping phosphatidylserine in the inner leaflet of plasma membrane. Rbpj-deficient TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs cannot maintain phosphatidylserine in the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane. Furthermore, depletion of intestinal macrophages restored TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs in Rbpj-deficient mice, suggesting that exposure of phosphatidylserine on the plasma membrane in Rbpj-deficient TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs acts as an “eat-me” signal. Together, these results revealed that Notch–Atp8a2 is a fundamental regulator for IELs and highlighted that membrane phospholipid asymmetry controlled by Notch-mediated flippase expression is a critical determinant in setting or balancing the number of TCRαβ+CD8αα+ IELs
X-ray study of ferroic octupole order producing anomalous Hall effect
放射光でついに見えた磁気オクタポール --熱を電気に変える新たな担い手--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-09-27.Recently found anomalous Hall, Nernst, magnetooptical Kerr, and spin Hall effects in the antiferromagnets Mn₃X (X = Sn, Ge) are attracting much attention for spintronics and energy harvesting. Since these materials are antiferromagnets, the origin of these functionalities is expected to be different from that of conventional ferromagnets. Here, we report the observation of ferroic order of magnetic octupole in Mn₃Sn by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, which is only predicted theoretically so far. The observed signals are clearly decoupled with the behaviors of uniform magnetization, indicating that the present X-ray magnetic circular dichroism is not arising from the conventional magnetization. We have found that the appearance of this anomalous signal coincides with the time reversal symmetry broken cluster magnetic octupole order. Our study demonstrates that the exotic material functionalities are closely related to the multipole order, which can produce unconventional cross correlation functionalities
Possible Kondo resonance in PrFe4P12 studied by bulk-sensitive photoemission
Pr 4f electronic states in Pr-based filled skutterudites PrT4X12 (T = Fe and Ru; X = P and Sb) have been studied by high-resolution bulk-sensitive Pr 3d-->4f resonance photoemission. A very strong spectral intensity is observed just below the Fermi level in the heavy-fermion system PrFe4P12. The increase of its intensity at lower temperatures is observed. We speculate that this is the Kondo resonance of Pr, the origin of which is attributed to the strong hybridization between the Pr 4f and the conduction electrons
Generation of Tetrafluoroethylene–Propylene Elastomer-Based Microfluidic Devices for Drug Toxicity and Metabolism Studies
フッ素系エラストマー素材を用いた肝臓チップの開発と薬物代謝・毒性試験への応用. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-09-16.Drug testing on miniatured livers. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-09-17.Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is widely used to fabricate microfluidic organs-on-chips. Using these devices (PDMS-based devices), the mechanical microenvironment of living tissues, such as pulmonary respiration and intestinal peristalsis, can be reproduced in vitro. However, the use of PDMS-based devices in drug discovery research is limited because of their extensive absorption of drugs. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of the tetrafluoroethylene–propylene (FEPM) elastomer to fabricate a hepatocyte-on-a-chip (FEPM-based hepatocyte chip) with lower drug absorption. The FEPM-based hepatocyte chip expressed drug-metabolizing enzymes, drug-conjugating enzymes, and drug transporters. Also, it could produce human albumin. Although the metabolites of midazolam and bufuralol were hardly detected in the PDMS-based hepatocyte chip, they were detected abundantly in the FEPM-based hepatocyte chip. Finally, coumarin-induced hepatocyte cytotoxicity was less severe in the PDMS-based hepatocyte chip than in the FEPM-based hepatocyte chip, reflecting the different drug absorptions of the two chips. In conclusion, the FEPM-based hepatocyte chip could be a useful tool in drug discovery research, including drug metabolism and toxicity studies
