The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between accounting fundamentals and future abnormal returns for prime market issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The background of the study is the revision of market segmentation in Japan starting April 2022. To elaborate, the market classification on the Tokyo Stock Exchange has been reorganized from the four categories of“ First Section,”“ Second Section,”“ Mothers,” and“ JASDAQ” to three categories of“ Prime Market,”“ Standard Market,” and“ Growth Market.” By examining the relationship between accounting fundamentals and future abnormal returns for prime market stocks, this paper provides empirical evidence on how the introduction of this new market classification affects the relationship between value based on accounting fundamentals and stock prices

Preliminary Study on Classification of Financial Ratios Using Factor Analysis

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to perform factor analysis on financial ratios calculated using consolidated financial statement data from the fiscal year ended March 31, 2006 to the fiscal year ended March 31, 2017, which are disclosed by Japanese companies, and to classify financial ratios. The analysis provided evidence to suggest that both net income and cash flows from operating activities are functioned as financial performance measures with similar properties. We also find that capital efficiency is an important factor. Furthermore, there is also evidence that cash flows from investing activities and cash flows from financing activities have a common factor

Onoma-to-wave: Environmental sound synthesis from onomatopoeic words

In this paper, we propose a framework for environmental sound synthesis from onomatopoeic words. As one way of expressing an environmental sound, we can use an onomatopoeic word, which is a character sequence for phonetically imitating a sound. An onomatopoeic word is effective for describing diverse sound features. Therefore, using onomatopoeic words for environmental sound synthesis will enable us to generate diverse environmental sounds. To generate diverse sounds, we propose a method based on a sequence-to-sequence framework for synthesizing environmental sounds from onomatopoeic words. We also propose a method of environmental sound synthesis using onomatopoeic words and sound event labels. The use of sound event labels in addition to onomatopoeic words enables us to capture each sound event's feature depending on the input sound event label. Our subjective experiments show that our proposed methods achieve higher diversity and naturalness than conventional methods using sound event labels

BACKGROUND: Recurrent herpes zoster (HZ) is thought to be rare, but there have been few large-scale studies of recurrent HZ. OBJECTIVE: We conducted a large-scale prospective cohort study to characterize recurrent HZ. METHODS: We examined 12,522 participants aged 50 years or older in Shozu County and followed them up for 3 years. We compared the incidence of HZ and postherpetic neuralgia, severity of skin lesions and acute pain, cell-mediated immunity, and varicella-zoster virus-specific antibody titer between primary and recurrent HZ. RESULTS: A total of 401 participants developed HZ: 341 with primary HZ and 60 with recurrent HZ. Skin lesions and acute pain were significantly milder and the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia was lower in patients aged 50 to 79 years with recurrent HZ than in those with primary HZ. Varicella-zoster virus skin test induced a stronger reaction in patients aged 50 to 79 years with recurrent HZ than in those with primary HZ. LIMITATIONS: Information on previous HZ episodes was self-reported by participants, so it could not be confirmed that they actually had a history of HZ. CONCLUSION: Recurrent HZ was associated with milder clinical symptoms than primary HZ, probably because of stronger varicella-zoster virus-specific cell-mediated immunity in the patients with recurrence.博士(医学)・甲第674号・平成29年9月27日Copyright © 2016 American Academy of Dermatology, Inc. Synthesis of glycerol Carbonate from glycerol and urea using zinc-containing solid catalysts: A homogeneous reaction

Zinc-containing solid catalysts (zinc oxide, smectite, hydrotalcite) and several inorganic zinc salts were used to produce glycerol carbonate from glycerol and urea under solvent-free conditions at 130℃ and at a reduced pressure of 3 kPa. The leaching of Zn species was observed to occur for the solid catalysts and the carbonate yield was shown to be correlated with the amount of zinc species dissolved into the liquid phase with a single relationship in common for all the catalysts employed. The reaction was also indicated to continue in the liquid phase alone, after the solid catalysts were removed from the reaction mixtures by filtration. The results obtained reveal that the reaction takes place homogeneously in the liquid phase irrespective of the parent solid catalysts used. Possible structure of active Zn species was discussed from the results of reaction runs under different conditions and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements of the liquid phase after the reaction
