Large Angle CMB Anisotropy in an Open Universe in the One-Bubble Inflationary Scenario

    Get PDF
We consider an alternative scenario of inflation which can account for a spatially open universe. It is similar to the old inflation in which the bubble nucleation occurs in the sea of false vacuum, but differs from it in that the second slow rollover inflation occurs inside a nucleated bubble. Hence our observable universe is entirely contained in one nucleated bubble. The significance of the scenario is that apart from a variance due to model parameters it gives us a definite prediction on the spectrum of the primordial density perturbations, hence is observationally testable. Here we investigate the spectrum of CMB anisotropies on large angular scales. We find that the contribution from peculiar modes which never appear in the usual harmonic analysis is significant in the case Ω0≲0.1\Omega_0\lesssim0.1.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, uuencoded compressed PS fil

Hedonic Price Function for Residential Area Focusing on the Reasons for Residential Preferences in Japanese Metropolitan Areas

This study aims to offer a new estimate of the hedonic price function of residential areas in Japanese metropolitan areas, focusing on the reasons for residential preferences. More specifically, it introduces two new explanatory variables—‘regional vulnerability’ and ‘accessibility to destination stations’—and determines their usefulness. Based on the evaluation done in this study, the hedonic price function mentioned above showed 60% interpretability (as compared to 52% interpretability by hedonic price function using only conventional explanatory variables.) In addition, the significance level of both the explanatory variables was low, and the land price changed by 9% as the regional vulnerability changed by 1 grade. Furthermore, residents placed great emphasis on both variables. This made it evident that the introduction of the two explanatory variables that reflect the reasons for residential preferences specific to Japanese metropolitan areas was reasonable

A new determination method of interatomic potential for sodium silicate glass simulations

    Get PDF
An interatomic potential for the classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of sodium silicate glasses was proposed. The ionic charges for this interatomic potential were determined by Mulliken population analysis via the density functional theory (DFT) calculation of alkali silicate crystals. The Si-O interatomic potential energy curve was determined by molecular orbital (MO) calculation of SiO2 +. The results of classical MD simulations using the new interatomic potential were consistent with the experimental trends in interatomic distance, thermal expansion coefficient, molar volume, Si-O-Si bond angle distribution, and Qn ratio with respect to the sodium composition of the silicate glass. The proposed interatomic potential improves the reproducibility of the ring size distribution in silicate glasses compared to conventional potentials
