Decrosslinking enables visualization of RNA-guided endonuclease-in situ labeling signals for DNA sequences in plant tissues
Information about the positioning of individual loci in the nucleus and the status of epigenetic modifications at these loci in each cell contained in plant tissue increases our understanding of how cells in a tissue coordinate gene expression. To obtain such information, a less damaging method of visualizing DNA in tissue that can be used with immunohistochemistry is required. Recently, a less damaging DNA visualization method using the CRISPR/Cas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/associated caspase 9) system, named RNA-guided endonuclease-in situ labeling (RGEN-ISL), was reported. This system made it possible to visualize a target DNA locus in a nucleus fixed on a glass slide with a set of simple operations, but it could not be applied to cells in plant tissues. In this work, we have developed a modified RGEN-ISL method with decrosslinking that made it possible to simultaneously detect the DNA loci and immunohistochemistry signals, including histone modification, in various types of plant tissues and species
Unconventional charge density wave in the organic conductor alpha-(BEDT-TTF)_2KHg(SCN)_4
The low temperature phase (LTP) of alpha-(BEDT-TTF)_2KHg(SCN)_4 salt is known
for its surprising angular dependent magnetoresistance (ADMR), which has been
studied intensively in the last decade. However, the nature of the LTP has not
been understood until now. Here we analyse theoretically ADMR in unconventional
(or nodal) charge density wave (UCDW). In magnetic field the quasiparticle
spectrum in UCDW is quantized, which gives rise to spectacular ADMR. The
present model accounts for many striking features of ADMR data in
alpha-(BEDT-TTF)_2KHg(SCN)_4.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure
Low-temperature specific heat for ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orders in CaRu1-xMnxO3
Low-temperature specific heat of CaRu1-xMnxO3 was measured to clarify the
role of d electrons in ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orders observed
above x=0.2. Specific heat divided by temperature C_p/T is found to roughly
follow a T^2 function, and relatively large magnitudes of electronic specific
heat coefficient gamma were obtained in wide x range. In particular, gamma is
unchanged from the value at x=0 (84 mJ/K^2 mol) in the paramagnetic state for
x<=0.1, but linearly reduced with increasing x above x= 0.2. These features of
gamma strongly suggest that itinerant d electrons are tightly coupled with the
evolution of magnetic orders in small and intermediate Mn concentrations.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to be published in J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. (SCES

A rice ABC transporter, OsABCC1, reduces arsenic accumulation in the grain
Arsenic (As) is a chronic poison that causes severe skin lesions and cancer. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major dietary source of As; therefore, reducing As accumulation in the rice grain and thereby diminishing the amount of As that enters the food chain is of critical importance. Here, we report that a member of the Oryza sativa C-type ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter (OsABCC) family, OsABCC1, is involved in the detoxification and reduction of As in rice grains. We found that OsABCC1 was expressed in many organs, including the roots, leaves, nodes, peduncle, and rachis. Expression was not affected when plants were exposed to low levels of As but was up-regulated in response to high levels of As. In both the basal nodes and upper nodes, which are connected to the panicle, OsABCC1 was localized to the phloem region of vascular bundles. Furthermore, OsABCC1 was localized to the tonoplast and conferred phytochelatin-dependent As resistance in yeast. Knockout of OsABCC1 in rice resulted in decreased tolerance to As, but did not affect cadmium toxicity. At the reproductive growth stage, the As content was higher in the nodes and in other tissues of wild-type rice than in those of OsABCC1 knockout mutants, but was significantly lower in the grain. Taken together, our results indicate that OsABCC1 limits As transport to the grains by sequestering As in the vacuoles of the phloem companion cells of the nodes in rice.open117318Ysciescopu
Ground state of the three-band Hubbard model
The ground state of the two-dimensional three-band Hubbard model in oxide
superconductors is investigated by using the variational Monte Carlo method.
The Gutzwiller-projected BCS and spin- density wave (SDW) functions are
employed in the search for a possible ground state with respect to dependences
on electron density. Antiferromagnetic correlations are considerably enhanced
near half-filling. It is shown that the d-wave state may exist away from
half-filling for both the hole and electron doping cases. The overall structure
of the phase diagram obtained by the calculations qualitatively agrees with
experimental indications. The superconducting condensation energy is in
reasonable agreement with the experimental value obtained from specific heat
and critical magnetic field measurements for optimally doped samples. The
inhomogeneous SDW state is also examined near 1/8-hole doping.Comment: 10 pages, 17 figure
Persistent current of two-chain Hubbard model with impurities
The interplay between impurities and interactions is studied in the gapless
phase of two-chain Hubbard model in order to see how the screening of impurity
potentials due to repulsive interactions in single-chain model will be changed
by increasing the number of channels. Renormalization group calculations show
that charge stiffness, and hence persistent current, of the two-chain model are
less enhanced by interactions than single chain case.Comment: 4 Pages, RevTeX, No figures, Submitted to PR
Possible high superconductivity mediated by antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in systems with Fermi surface pockets
We propose that if there are two small pocket-like Fermi surfaces, and the
spin susceptibility is pronounced around a wave vector {\bf Q} that bridges the
two pockets, the spin-singlet superconductivity mediated by spin fluctuations
may have a high transition temperature. Using the fluctuation exchange
approximation, this idea is confirmed for the Hubbard on a lattice with
alternating hopping integrals, for which is estimated to be almost an
order of magnitude larger than those for systems with a large connected Fermi
surface.Comment: 5 pages, uses RevTe
Spin-Density-Wave Phase Transitions in Quasi-One-Dimensional Dimerized Quarter-Filled Organic Conductors
We have studied spin density wave (SDW) phase transitions in dimerized
quarter-filled Hubbard chains weakly coupled via interchain one-particle
hopping, . It is shown that there exists a critical value of ,
, between the incoherent metal regime () and the
Fermi liquid regime () in the metallic phase above the SDW
transition temperature. By using the 2-loop perturbative renormalization-group
approach together with the random-phase-approximation, we propose a SDW phase
diagram covering both of the regimes. The SDW phase transition from the
incoherent metal phase for is caused by growth of the
intrachain electron-electron umklapp scattering toward low temperatures, which
is regarded as preformation of the Mott gap. We discuss relevance of the
present result to the SDW phase transitions in the quasi-one-dimensional
dimerized quarter-filled organic conductors, (TMTTF)X and (TMTSF)X.Comment: 19 pages, 13 eps figures, uses jpsj.sty, corrected typo in the text

Thermodynamics of low dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg ferromagnets in an external magnetic field within Green function formalism
The thermodynamics of low dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg ferromagnets (HFM)
in an external magnetic field is investigated within a second-order two-time
Green function formalism in the wide temperature and field range. A crucial
point of the proposed scheme is a proper account of the analytical properties
for the approximate transverse commutator Green function obtained as a result
of the decoupling procedure. A good quantitative description of the correlation
functions, magnetization, susceptibility, and heat capacity of the HFM on a
chain, square and triangular lattices is found for both infinite and
finite-sized systems. The dependences of the thermodynamic functions of 2D HFM
on the cluster size are studied. The obtained results agree well with the
corresponding data found by Bethe ansatz, exact diagonalization, high
temperature series expansions, and quantum Monte Carlo simulations.Comment: 11 pages, 14 figure
An Asian emission inventory of anthropogenic emission sources for the period 1980?2020
International audienceWe developed a new emission inventory for Asia (Regional Emission inventory in ASia (REAS) Version 1.1) for the period 1980?2020. REAS is the first inventory to integrate historical, present, and future emissions in Asia on the basis of a consistent methodology. We present here emissions in 2000, historical emissions for 1980?2003, and projected emissions for 2010 and 2020 of SO2, NOx, CO, NMVOC, black carbon (BC), and organic carbon (OC) from fuel combustion and industrial sources. Total energy consumption in Asia more than doubled between 1980 and 2003, causing a rapid growth in Asian emissions, by 28% for BC, 30% for OC, 64% for CO, 108% for NMVOC, 119% for SO2, and 176% for NOx. In particular, Chinese NOx emissions showed a marked increase of 280% over 1980 levels, and growth in emissions since 2000 has been extremely high. These increases in China were mainly caused by increases in coal combustion in the power plants and industrial sectors. NMVOC emissions also rapidly increased because of growth in the use of automobiles, solvents, and paints. By contrast, BC, OC, and CO emissions in China showed decreasing trends from 1996 to 2000 because of a reduction in the use of biofuels and coal in the domestic and industry sectors. However, since 2000, Chinese emissions of these species have begun to increase. Thus, the emissions of air pollutants in Asian countries (especially China) showed large temporal variations from 1980?2003. Future emissions in 2010 and 2020 in Asian countries were projected by emission scenarios and from emissions in 2000. For China, we developed three emission scenarios: PSC (policy success case), REF (reference case), and PFC (policy failure case). In the 2020 REF scenario, Asian total emissions of SO2, NOx, and NMVOC were projected to increase substantially by 22%, 44%, and 99%, respectively, over 2000 levels. The 2020 REF scenario showed a modest increase in CO (12%), a lesser increase in BC (1%), and a slight decrease in OC (?5%) compared with 2000 levels. However, it should be noted that Asian total emissions are strongly influenced by the emission scenarios for China
