The double scaling limit of the multi-orientable tensor model
In this paper we study the double scaling limit of the multi-orientable
tensor model. We prove that, contrary to the case of matrix models but
similarly to the case of invariant tensor models, the double scaling series are
convergent. We resum the double scaling series of the two point function and of
the leading singular part of the four point function. We discuss the behavior
of the leading singular part of arbitrary correlation functions. We show that
the contribution of the four point function and of all the higher point
functions are enhanced in the double scaling limit. We finally show that all
the correlation functions exhibit a singularity at the same critical value of
the double scaling parameter which, combined with the convergence of the double
scaling series, suggest the existence of a triple scaling limit
The Vocabulary-Management Profile: Two Stories by William Faulkner
Includes bibliographical references. The Vocabulary-Management Profile (VMP) is a graph of the moving average of the number of new vocabulary words introduced over successive intervals of text. Peaks and
valleys on the VMP correlate closely with narrative structure: new episodes, new settings, new characters are signaled by an increase in new vocabulary, and hence by upturns on the curve. Conversely, downturns in the VMP normally signal a continuation of the episode, description, or characterization. Higher-level boundaries in discourse (such as those between paragraphs and narrative episodes) normally correspond with deeper valleys on VMPs than do lower-level boundaries (such as those between clauses and sentences). Hence, VMPs provide surprisingly accurate graphical representations of the hierarchical structure of discourse. In general, the
VMPs for "A Rose for Emily" and "Dry September" confirm this close correspondence between VMPs and narrative structure. However, VMPs are formally equivalent to unlabeled tree diagrams, and like such diagrams, they can provide only partial, not complete analogues for the structure of discourse
Lessons Learned Abroad
American Extension has left its footprints overseas for more than 50 years. An experienced Extension internationalist reflects on how lessons learned abroad find expression in a more global but vulnerable homeland today
A New Tool for Discourse Analysis: The Vocabulary-Management Profile
Includes bibliographical references.A Turbo Pascal program is used to generate vocabulary management profiles (VMPs). The program counts the new vocabulary words introduced into a text over successive thirty-five-word intervals, and these numbers are then plotted at the midpoints of their intervals. The resulting VMPs show clearcut peaks and valleys that demarcate constituents in discourse. New episodes in narratives and new topics in essays show up as sharp rises preceded by deep valleys in the curve. This correlation between new vocabulary and new topics suggests that is plausible to interpret VMPs as information-management, as well as vocabulary-management, profiles for a discourse. The VMPs for passages from James Joyce and George Orwell show surprisingly regular alternations between new and repeated vocabulary, reflecting two competing principles that underlie the structure
of all discourse--innovation and coherence
Toward Cross-Cultural Outreach: The Washington State Experience
The changing face of America presents Extension workers with an unprecedented cross-cultural program delivery challenge. In order to meet that challenge, Extension faculty and staff must develop the awareness, sensitivities, and skills for effective outreach and engagement. Washington State University Extension has conducted intensive training workshops toward that end. Those highly interactive workshops are designed to help participants face social realities, share experiences, overcome anxieties, and build program strategies. Extension in Washington has become a richer environment

Cracked. Cracked open—praise To that, for that, praise That the black, feathery lint Was washed clean from my face, That the black, feathery lint Came off in wisps and shreds And crinkled threads Like thrums from a loom, Like lines of false poetry, Like cat fur in the mouth On waking
Some Examples of the Liouville Integrability of the Banded Toda Flows
The Toda lattice is a famous integrable system studied by Toda in the 1960s. One can study the Toda lattice using a matrix representation of the system. Previous results have shown that this matrix of dimension n with 1 band and n‚à Ă1 bands is Liouville integrable. In this paper, we lay the foundation for proving the general case of the Toda lattice, where we consider the matrix representation with dimension n and a partially filled lower triangular part. We call this the banded Toda flow. The main theorem is that the banded Toda flow up to dimension 10 is Liouville integrable. To conclude the paper, we will present some conjectures which, we hope, will help us in proving the Liouville integrability of the banded Toda flow of dimension n with k number of bands
