Spin-Peierls transition in an anisotropic two-dimensional XY model
The two-dimensional Jordan-Wigner transformation is used to investigate the
zero temperature spin-Peierls transition for an anisotropic two-dimensional XY
model in adiabatic limit. The phase diagram between the dimerized (D) state and
uniform (U) state is shown in the parameter space of dimensionless interchain
coupling and spin-lattice coupling . It is found
that the spin-lattice coupling must exceed some critical value
in order to reach the D phase for any finite . The dependence of on
is given by for and the transition between U and D
phase is of first-order for at least .Comment: 2 eps figures, considerable revisions were mad
Kinetic energy driven superconductivity in doped cuprates
Within the t-J model, the mechanism of superconductivity in doped cuprates is
studied based on the partial charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory. It is
shown that dressed holons interact occurring directly through the kinetic
energy by exchanging dressed spinon excitations, leading to a net attractive
force between dressed holons, then the electron Cooper pairs originating from
the dressed holon pairing state are due to the charge-spin recombination, and
their condensation reveals the superconducting ground-state. The electron
superconducting transition temperature is determined by the dressed holon pair
transition temperature, and is proportional to the concentration of doped holes
in the underdoped regime. With the common form of the electron Cooper pair, we
also show that there is a coexistence of the electron Cooper pair and
antiferromagnetic short-range correlation, and hence the antiferromagnetic
short-range fluctuation can persist into the superconducting state. Our results
are qualitatively consistent with experiments.Comment: 6 pages, Revtex, two figures are included, corrected typo
Measurement of Ultra-Low Potassium Contaminations with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry
Levels of trace radiopurity in active detector materials is a subject of
major concern in low-background experiments. Among the radio-isotopes, \k40
is one of the most abundant and yet whose signatures are difficult to reject.
Procedures were devised to measure trace potassium concentrations in the
inorganic salt CsI as well as in organic liquid scintillator (LS) with
Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS), giving, respectively, the
\k40-contamination levels of and g/g.
Measurement flexibilities and sensitivities are improved over conventional
methods. The projected limiting sensitivities if no excess of potassium signals
had been observed over background are g/g and g/g for the CsI and LS, respectively. Studies of the LS samples
indicate that the radioactive contaminations come mainly in the dye solutes,
while the base solvents are orders of magnitude cleaner. The work demonstrate
the possibilities of measuring naturally-occurring isotopes with the AMS
techniques.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures, 3 table
Self-organization of stack-up block copolymers into polymeric supramolecules
Polyethylene oxide ābā polypropylene oxide -b- polyethylene oxide (EO106PO70EO106) block copolymer self-organizes into polymeric supramolecules, characterized by NMR as phase transition from the isotropic stack-up block structure to the ordered cubic polymeric supramolecular structure. Its dependence on both temperature and copolymer concentration is clearly shown by the changes in line shape and chemical shift of the PO70blockĪ²,Ī³resonances
Measurement of Trace I-129 Concentrations in CsI Powder and Organic Liquid Scintillator with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry
Levels of trace radiopurity in active detector materials is a subject of
major concern in low-background experiments. Procedures were devised to measure
trace concentrations of I-129 in the inorganic salt CsI as well as in organic
liquid scintillator with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) which leads to
improvement in sensitivities by several orders of magnitude over other methods.
No evidence of their existence in these materials were observed. Limits of < 6
X 10^{-13} g/g and < 2.6 X 10^{-17} g/g on the contaminations of I-129 in CsI
and liquid scintillator, respectively, were derived. These are the first results
in a research program whose goals are to develop techniques to measure trace
radioactivity in detector materials by AMS.Comment: Proceedings of 10th International Conference on Accelerator Mass

Self-assembly of micelles into designed networks
The EO20PO70EO20(molecular weight 5800) amphiphile as a template is to form dispersed micelle structures. Silver nanoparticles, as inorganic precursors synthesized by a laser ablation method in pure water, are able to produce the highly ordered vesicles detected by TEM micrography. The thickness of the outer layer of a micelle, formed by the silver nanoparticles interacting preferentially with the more hydrophilic EO20block, was around 3.5 nm. The vesicular structure ensembled from micelles is due to proceeding to the mixture of cubic and hexagonal phases
Resistance distance, information centrality, node vulnerability and vibrations in complex networks
We discuss three seemingly unrelated quantities that have been introduced in different fields of science for complex networks. The three quantities are the resistance distance, the information centrality and the node displacement. We first prove various relations among them. Then we focus on the node displacement, showing its usefulness as an index of node vulnerability. We argue that the node displacement has a better resolution as a measure of node vulnerability than the degree and the information centrality
On the mechanisms of heavy-quarkonium hadroproduction
We discuss the various mechanisms potentially at work in hadroproduction of
heavy quarkonia in the light of computations of higher-order QCD corrections
both in the Colour-Singlet (CS) and Colour-Octet (CO) channels and the
inclusion of the contribution arising from the s-channel cut in the CS channel.
We also discuss new observables meant to better discriminate between these
different mechanisms.Comment: Invited review talk at 3rd International Conference On Hard And

Development of a metal-free black phosphorus/graphitic carbon nitride heterostructure for visible-light-driven degradation of indomethacin
The development of affordable and efficient technologies for the removal of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) from water has recently been the subject of extensive attention. In this study, a black phosphorus/graphitic carbon nitride (BP-g-C3N4) heterostructure is fabricated as an extremely active metal-free photocatalyst via a newly-developed exfoliation strategy. The BP-g-C3N4 shows an 11 times better decomposition rate of a representative PPCPs-type pollutant, indomethacin (IDM), compared to the widely used P25 TiO2 under real-sunlight illumination. Also, its visible-light activity is even better than that of the best photocatalysts previously developed, but only consumes 1/10-1/4 of the catalyst. The results show that BP performs a cocatalyst-like behavior to catalyze the generation of reactive oxygen species, thus speeding up the decomposition of IDM. In addition, the BP-g-C3N4 photocatalyst also exhibits excellent IDM removal efficiency in authentic water matrices (tap water, surface water, and secondarily treated sewage effluent). Large-scale application demonstration under natural sunlight further reveals the practicality of BP-g-C3N4 for real-world water treatment operations. Our work will open up new possibilities in the development of purely metal-free photocatalysts for "green" environmental remediation applications. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. The molecular systems composed of the charmed mesons in the doublet
We study the possible heavy molecular states composed of a pair of charm
mesons in the H and S doublets. Since the P-wave charm-strange mesons
and are extremely narrow, the future experimental
observation of the possible heavy molecular states composed of
and may be feasible if they really exist.
Especially the possible states may be searched for via the
initial state radiation technique.Comment: 42 pages, 4 tables, 31 figures. Improved numerical results and
