    B -> J/psi K^* Decays in QCD Factorization

    Full text link
    The hadronic decay B -> J K^* is analyzed within the framework of QCD factorization. The spin amplitudes A_0, A_\parallel and A_\perp in the transversity basis and their relative phases are studied using various different form-factor models for B-K^* transition. The effective parameters a_2^h for helicity h=0,+,- states receive different nonfactorizable contributions and hence they are helicity dependent, contrary to naive factorization where a_2^h are universal and polarization independent. QCD factorization breaks down even at the twist-2 level for transverse hard spectator interactions. Although a nontrivial strong phase for the A_\parallel amplitude can be achieved by adjusting the phase of an infrared divergent contribution, the present QCD factorization calculation cannot say anything definite about the phase phi_\parallel. Unlike B -> J/psi K decays, the longitudinal parameter a_2^0 for B -> J/psi K^* does not receive twist-3 corrections and is not large enough to account for the observed branching ratio and the fraction of longitudinal polarization. Possible enhancement mechanisms for a_2^0 are discussed.Comment: 21 pages, 1 figure, a table and a reference added, some typos correcte

    Four new compounds were isolated from the basidiomata of the fungus Antrodia salmonea, a newly identified species of Antrodia (Aphyllophorales) in Taiwan. These new compounds are named as lanosta-8,24-diene-3 beta,15 alpha,21-triol (1), 24-methylenelanost-8-ene-3 beta,15 alpha,21-triol (2), 2,3-dimethoxy-5-(2',5'-dimethoxy-3',4'-methylenedioxyphenyl)-7-methyl-[1,4]-naphthoquinone (3), and 2,3-dimethoxy-6-(2,5'-dimethoxy-3',4'-methylenedioxyphenyl)-7-methyl-[1,4]-naphthoquinone (4), respectively. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. An in vitro cellular functional assay was performed to evaluate their anti-oxidative burst activity in human leukocytes. They showed inhibitory effects against phorbol 12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA), a direct protein kinase C activator, induced oxidative burst in neutrophils (PMN) and mononuclear cells (MNC) with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) ranging from 3.5 to 25.8 mu M. The potency order of these compounds in PMA-activated leukocytes was as 1 > 3 > 4 > 2. They were relatively less effective in formyl-Met-Leu-Phe (fMLP), a G-protein coupled receptor agonist, induced oxidative burst, except for compounds 3 and 4 in fMLP-activated PMN. These results indicated that three (1, 3, and 4) of these four newly identified compounds displayed antioxidative effect in human leukocytes with different potency and might confer anti-inflammatory activity to these drugs

    Charm multiplicity and the branching ratios of inclusive charmless b quark decays in the general two-Higgs-doublet models

    Full text link
    In the framework of general two-Higgs-doublet models, we calculate the branching ratios of various inclusive charmless b decays by using the low energy effective Hamiltonian including next-to-leading order QCD corrections, and examine the current status and the new physics effects on the determination of the charm multiplicity ncn_c and semileptonic branching ratio BSLB_{SL}. Within the considered parameter space, the enhancement to the ratio BR(bsg)BR(b \to s g) due to the charged-Higgs penguins can be as large as a factor of 8 (3) in the model III (II), while the ratio BR(bnocharm)BR(b \to no charm) can be increased from the standard model prediction of 2.49% to 4.91% (2.99%) in the model III (II). Consequently, the value of BSLB_{SL} and ncn_c can be decreased simultaneously in the model III. The central value of BSLB_{SL} will be lowered slightly by about 0.003, but the ratio ncn_c can be reduced significantly from the theoretical prediction of nc=1.28±0.05n_c= 1.28 \pm 0.05 in the SM to nc=1.23±0.05n_c= 1.23 \pm 0.05, 1.18±0.051.18 \pm 0.05 for mH+=200,100m_{H^+}=200, 100 GeV, respectively. We find that the predicted ncn_c and the measured ncn_c now agree within roughly one standard deviation after taking into account the effects of gluonic charged Higgs penguins in the model III with a relatively light charged Higgs boson.Comment: 25 pages, Latex file, axodraw.sty, 6 figures. Non-Markovian dynamics for an open two-level system without rotating wave approximation: Indivisibility versus backflow of information

    Full text link
    By use of the two measures presented recently, the indivisibility and the backflow of information, we study the non-Markovianity of the dynamics for a two-level system interacting with a zero-temperature structured environment without using rotating wave approximation (RWA). In the limit of weak coupling between the system and the reservoir, and by expanding the time-convolutionless (TCL) generator to the forth order with respect to the coupling strength, the time-local non-Markovian master equation for the reduced state of the system is derived. Under the secular approximation, the exact analytic solution is obtained and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the indivisibility and the backflow of information for the system dynamics are presented. In the more general case, we investigate numerically the properties of the two measures for the case of Lorentzian reservoir. Our results show the importance of the counter-rotating terms to the short-time-scale non-Markovian behavior of the system dynamics, further expose the relations between the two measures and their rationality as non-Markovian measures. Finally, the complete positivity of the dynamics of the considered system is discussed

    Based on the low-energy effective Hamiltonian with the generalized factorization, we calculate the new physics contributions to the branching ratios of the two-body charmless hadronic decays of BuB_u and BdB_d mesons induced by the new gluonic and electroweak charged-Higgs penguin diagrams in the general two-Higgs doublet models (models I, II and III). Within the considered parameter space, we find that: (a) the new physics effects from new gluonic penguin diagrams strongly dominate over those from the new γ\gamma- and Z0Z^0- penguin diagrams; (b) in models I and II, new physics contributions to most studied B meson decay channels are rather small in size: from -15% to 20%; (c) in model III, however, the new physics enhancements to the penguin-dominated decay modes can be significant, (30200)\sim (30 -200)%, and therefore are measurable in forthcoming high precision B experiments; (d) the new physics enhancements to ratios {\cal B}(B \to K \etap) are significant in model III, (3570)\sim (35 -70)%, and hence provide a simple and plausible new physics interpretation for the observed unexpectedly large B \to K \etap decay rates; (e) the theoretical predictions for B(BK+π){\cal B}(B \to K^+ \pi) and B(BK0π+){\cal B}(B \to K^0 \pi^+) in model III are still consistent with the data within 2σ2\sigma errors; (f) the significant new physics enhancements to the branching ratios of BK0π0,Kη,K+π,K+ϕ,K0ω,K+ϕB \to K^0 \pi^0, K^* \eta, K^{*+} \pi^-, K^+ \phi, K^{*0} \omega, K^{*+} \phi and K0ϕK^{*0} \phi decays are helpful to improve the agreement between the data and the theoretical predictions; (g) the theoretical predictions of B(BPP,PV,VV){\cal B}(B \to PP, PV, VV) in the 2HDM's are generally consistent with experimental measurements and upper limits (9090% C.L.)Comment: 55 pages, Latex file, 17 PS and EPS figures. New charged Higgs effects on ΓKe2/ΓKμ2\Gamma_{K_{e2}}/\Gamma_{K_{\mu 2}}, fDsf_{D_s} and B(B+τ+ν){\cal B}(B^+\to \tau^+ \nu) in the Two-Higgs-Doublet model

    A new scheme for Yukawa matrices is proposed for free of flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) at tree level in general two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM) without imposing symmetry. We find that the new type couplings of charged Higgs to fermions not only depend on the flavors, but also can be ascribed by new CP violating phases. Unlike conventional THDM, the resulted new charged Higgs effects could have the specialties: (a) the influence on Γ(Ke2±)/Γ(Kμ2±)\Gamma(K^\pm_{e 2})/\Gamma(K^\pm_{\mu 2}) cannot be eliminated, (b) the decay constant of DsD_s could be enhanced, and (c) enhancement of branching ratio for B+τ+νB^+\to \tau^+ \nu could be achieved.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, references added, typos corrected, constraints from R_\pi and B\to D \tau \bar \nu included, final version to appear in PL

    Charmless Exclusive Baryonic B Decays

    Full text link
    We present a systematical study of two-body and three-body charmless baryonic B decays. Branching ratios for two-body modes are in general very small, typically less than 10610^{-6}, except that \B(B^-\to p \bar\Delta^{--})\sim 1\times 10^{-6}. In general, BˉNΔˉ>BˉNNˉ\bar B\to N\bar\Delta>\bar B\to N\bar N due to the large coupling constant for ΣbBΔ\Sigma_b\to B\Delta. For three-body modes we focus on octet baryon final states. The leading three-dominated modes are Bˉ0pnˉπ(ρ),npˉπ+(ρ+)\bar B^0\to p\bar n\pi^-(\rho^-), n\bar p\pi^+(\rho^+) with a branching ratio of order 3×1063\times 10^{-6} for Bˉ0pnˉπ\bar B^0\to p\bar n\pi^- and 8×1068\times 10^{-6} for Bˉ0pnˉρ\bar B^0\to p\bar n\rho^-. The penguin-dominated decays with strangeness in the meson, e.g., BppˉK()B^-\to p\bar p K^{-(*)} and Bˉ0pnˉK(),nnˉKˉ0()\bar B^0\to p\bar n K^{-(*)}, n\bar n \bar K^{0(*)}, have appreciable rates and the NNˉN\bar N mass spectrum peaks at low mass. The penguin-dominated modes containing a strange baryon, e.g., Bˉ0Σ0pˉπ+,Σnˉπ+\bar B^0\to \Sigma^0\bar p\pi^+, \Sigma^-\bar n\pi^+, have branching ratios of order (14)×106(1\sim 4)\times 10^{-6}. In contrast, the decay rate of Bˉ0Λpˉπ+\bar B^0\to\Lambda\bar p\pi^+ is smaller. We explain why some of charmless three-body final states in which baryon-antibaryon pair production is accompanied by a meson have a larger rate than their two-body counterparts: either the pole diagrams for the former have an anti-triplet bottom baryon intermediate state, which has a large coupling to the BB meson and the nucleon, or they are dominated by the factorizable external WW-emission process.Comment: 46 pages and 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. D. Major changes are: (i) Calculations of two-body baryonic B decays involving a Delta resonance are modified, and (ii) Penguin-dominated modes B-> Sigma+N(bar)+p are discusse

    Phenomenological Analysis of B->PP Decays with QCD Factorization

    Full text link
    In this paper, we study nonleptonic charmless B decays to two light pseudoscalar mesons within the frame of QCD factorization, including the contributions from the chirally enhanced power corrections and weak annihilation. Predictions for the CP-averaged branching ratios and CP-violating asymmetries are given. Within the reasonable range of the parameters, we find that our predictions for the branching ratios of B -> PP are consistent with the present experimental data. But because of the logarithmic divergences at the endpoints in the hard spectator scatterings and weak annihilation, there are still large uncertainties in these predictions.Comment: 34 pages, 5 figures. to appear in PR
