Dynamic ferromagnetic proximity effect in photoexcited semiconductors
The spin dynamics of photoexcited carriers in semiconductors in contact with
a ferromagnet is treated theoretically and compared with time-dependent Faraday
rotation experiments. The long time response of the system is found to be
governed by the first tens of picoseconds in which the excited plasma interacts
strongly with the intrinsic interface between semiconductor and ferromagnet in
spite of the existence of a Schottky barrier in equilibrium
Voltage control of nuclear spin in ferromagnetic Schottky diodes
We employ optical pump-probe spectroscopy to investigate the voltage
dependence of spontaneous electron and nuclear spin polarizations in hybrid
MnAs/n-GaAs and Fe/n-GaAs Schottky diodes. Through the hyperfine interaction,
nuclear spin polarization that is imprinted by the ferromagnet acts on
conduction electron spins as an effective magnetic field. We demonstrate tuning
of this nuclear field from <0.05 to 2.4 kG by varying a small bias voltage
across the MnAs device. In addition, a connection is observed between the diode
turn-on and the onset of imprinted nuclear polarization, while traditional
dynamic nuclear polarization exhibits relatively little voltage dependence.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review B Rapid Communications. 15 pages, 3

Measurement of the Beam Asymmetry in the Forward Direction for pi0 Photoproduction
Photoproduction of neutral pions has been studied with the CBELSA/TAPS
detector for photon energies between 0.92 and 1.68~GeV at the electron
accelerator ELSA. The beam asymmetry~ has been extracted for of the ~meson and for . The new beam asymmetry data improve the world database for
photon energies above 1.5~GeV and, by covering the very forward region, extend
previously published data for the same reaction by our collaboration. The
angular dependence of shows overall good agreement with the SAID

Photoproduction of Neutral Pions off Protons
Photoproduction of neutral pions has been studied with the CBELSA/TAPS
detector in the reaction for photon energies between 0.85
and 2.50 GeV. The mesons are observed in their dominant neutral decay
mode: . For the first time, the differential cross
sections cover the very forward region, . A
partial-wave analysis of these data within the Bonn-Gatchina framework observes

What is the structure of the Roper resonance?
We investigate the structure of the nucleon resonance N^*(1440) (Roper)
within a coupled-channel meson exchange model for pion-nucleon scattering. The
coupling to pipiN states is realized effectively by the coupling to the sigmaN,
piDelta and rhoN channels. The interaction within and between these channels is
derived from an effective Lagrangian based on a chirally symmetric Lagrangian,
which is supplemented by well known terms for the coupling of the Delta isobar,
the omega meson and the 'sigma', which is the name given here to the strong
correlation of two pions in the scalar-isoscalar channel. In this model the
Roper resonance can be described by meson-baryon dynamics alone; no genuine
N^*(1440) (3 quark) resonance is needed in order to fit piN phase shifts and

Photoproduction of {\omega} Mesons off the Proton
The differential cross sections and unpolarized spin-density matrix elements
for the reaction were measured using the CBELSA/TAPS
experiment for initial photon energies ranging from the reaction threshold to
2.5 GeV. These observables were measured from the radiative decay of the
meson, . The cross sections cover the full
angular range and show the full extent of the -channel forward rise. The
overall shape of the angular distributions in the differential cross sections
and unpolarized spin-density matrix elements are in fair agreement with
previous data. In addition, for the first time, a beam of linearly-polarized
tagged photons in the energy range from 1150 MeV to 1650 MeV was used to
extract polarized spin-density matrix elements.
These data were included in the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis (PWA).
The dominant contribution to photoproduction near threshold was found
to be the partial wave, which is primarily due to the sub-threshold
resonance. At higher energies, pomeron-exchange was found to
dominate whereas -exchange remained small. These -channel contributions
as well as further contributions from nucleon resonances were necessary to
describe the entire dataset: the , , and partial waves
were also found to contribute significantly.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Physics Letters
Quasi-free photoproduction of eta-mesons off the deuteron
Precise data for quasi-free photoproduction of mesons off the deuteron
have been measured at the Bonn ELSA accelerator with the combined Crystal
Barrel/TAPS detector for incident photon energies up to 2.5 GeV. The
-mesons have been detected in coincidence with recoil protons and
neutrons. Possible nuclear effects like Fermi motion and re-scattering can be
studied via a comparison of the quasi-free reaction off the bound proton to
-production off the free proton. No significant effects beyond the
folding of the free cross section with the momentum distribution of the bound
protons have been found. These Fermi motion effects can be removed by an
analysis using the invariant mass of the -nucleon pairs reconstructed
from the final state four-momenta of the particles. The total cross section for
quasi-free -photoproduction off the neutron reveals even without
correction for Fermi motion a pronounced bump-like structure around 1 GeV of
incident photon energy, which is not observed for the proton. This structure is
even narrower in the invariant mass spectrum of the -neutron pairs.
Position and width of the peak in the invariant mass spectrum are MeV and FWHM MeV. The data are compared to the results
