State of B\"uchi Complementation
Complementation of B\"uchi automata has been studied for over five decades
since the formalism was introduced in 1960. Known complementation constructions
can be classified into Ramsey-based, determinization-based, rank-based, and
slice-based approaches. Regarding the performance of these approaches, there
have been several complexity analyses but very few experimental results. What
especially lacks is a comparative experiment on all of the four approaches to
see how they perform in practice. In this paper, we review the four approaches,
propose several optimization heuristics, and perform comparative
experimentation on four representative constructions that are considered the
most efficient in each approach. The experimental results show that (1) the
determinization-based Safra-Piterman construction outperforms the other three
in producing smaller complements and finishing more tasks in the allocated time
and (2) the proposed heuristics substantially improve the Safra-Piterman and
the slice-based constructions.Comment: 28 pages, 4 figures, a preliminary version of this paper appeared in

Progress of Fintech Industry from Venture Capital Point of View
Fintech (financial technology) is a term that broadly described the innovation of financial product and service using IT technology. Fintech uses a lot of new business model such as FXP2P and supply chain finance, and new technology such as blockchain and cryptocurrency. According to World Economic Forum report, fintech bring disruptive innovations that are reshaping the way financial services. Also, in World Economic Forum report have structured research framework against six (6) function of financial services and eleven (11) clusters of innovation. CrunchBase is a web 2.0 wiki-liked database for startup company that includes the information for founders, key team members, basic financial information, and venture capital funding and important events. This paper uses Python to web scrape CrunchBase website for studying the progress of Fintech industry and find out the development of IT technology and innovation. The objectives of this paper are to study the CrunchBase database to compare with World Economic Forum report research framework and find out the actual progress of Fintech industry
A model of CP Violation from Extra Dimension
We construct a realistic model of CP violation in which CP is broken in the
process of dimensional reduction and orbifold compactification from a five
dimensional theories with gauge symmetry. CP
violation is a result of the Hosotani type gauge configuration in the higher
dimension.Comment: 5 page
Polarization controllable Fresnel lens using dye-doped liquid crystals
A scattering-free, polarization controllable Fresnel zone plate lens is demonstrated using a photo-induced alignment of the dye-doped liquid crystal film. This photo-aligned liquid crystal zone plate provides orthogonal polarization states for odd and even zones. The different focus orders can be separated because of their different polarization states. The fabrication process is relatively simple and the operation voltage is less than 5 V-rms
Spin and charge transport in U-shaped one-dimensional channels with spin-orbit couplings
A general form of the Hamiltonian for electrons confined to a curved
one-dimensional (1D) channel with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) linear in momentum
is rederived and is applied to a U-shaped channel. Discretizing the derived
continuous 1D Hamiltonian to a tight-binding version, the Landauer-Keldysh
formalism (LKF) for nonequilibrium transport can be applied. Spin transport
through the U-channel based on the LKF is compared with previous quantum
mechanical approaches. The role of a curvature-induced geometric potential
which was previously neglected in the literature of the ring issue is also
revisited. Transport regimes between nonadiabatic, corresponding to weak SOC or
sharp turn, and adiabatic, corresponding to strong SOC or smooth turn, is
discussed. Based on the LKF, interesting charge and spin transport properties
are further revealed. For the charge transport, the interplay between the
Rashba and the linear Dresselhaus (001) SOCs leads to an additional modulation
to the local charge density in the half-ring part of the U-channel, which is
shown to originate from the angle-dependent spin-orbit potential. For the spin
transport, theoretically predicted eigenstates of the Rashba rings, Dresselhaus
rings, and the persistent spin-helix state are numerically tested by the
present quantum transport calculation.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figure
On the Miura map between the dispersionless KP and dispersionless modified KP hierarchies
We investigate the Miura map between the dispersionless KP and dispersionless
modified KP hierarchies. We show that the Miura map is canonical with respect
to their bi-Hamiltonian structures. Moreover, inspired by the works of Takasaki
and Takebe, the twistor construction of solution structure for the
dispersionless modified KP hierarchy is given.Comment: 19 pages, Latex, no figure
A Note on the Gauge Equivalence between the Manin-Radul and Laberge-Mathieu Super KdV Hierarchies
The gauge equivalence between the Manin-Radul and Laberge-Mathieu super KdV
hierarchies is revisited. Apart from the Inami-Kanno transformation, we show
that there is another gauge transformation which also possess the canonical
property. We explore the relationship of these two gauge transformations from
the Kupershmidt-Wilson theorem viewpoint and, as a by-product, obtain the
Darboux-Backlund transformation for the Manin-Radul super KdV hierarchy. The
geometrical intepretation of these transformations is also briefly discussed.Comment: 8 pages, revtex, 1 figur
Nonequilibrium spin transport on Au(111) surfaces
The well-known experimentally observed \textit{sp}-derived Au(111) Shockley
surface states with Rashba spin splitting are perfectly fit by an effective
tight-binding model, considering a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice with
-orbital and nearest neighbor hopping only. The extracted realistic band
parameters are then imported to perform the Landauer-Keldysh formalism to
calculate nonequilibrium spin transport in a two-terminal setup sandwiching a
Au(111) surface channel. Obtained results show strong spin density on the
Au(111) surface and demonstrate (i) intrinsic spin-Hall effect, (ii)
current-induced spin polarization, and (iii) Rashba spin precession, all of
which have been experimentally observed in semiconductor heterostructures, but
not in metallic surface states. We therefore urge experiments in the latter for
these spin phenomena.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
