Tests were conducted with contrived inlet modulated sinusoidal pressure generator to study possible use in calibrating pressure sensors. Results indicate concept is feasible and applicable to transducer evaluation

Ratio of Isoscalar to Isovector Core Polarization for Magnetic Moments

In calculations of isoscalar magnetic moments of odd-odd N=Z nuclei it was found that for medium to heavy mass nuclei large scale shell model calculations yielded results which were very close to much simpler single j shell ones. To understand this we compare isoscalar and isovector configuration mixing in first order perturbation theory using a spin dependant delata interaction. The isoscalar corrections are much smalle

Enhancement of Coherent X ray Diffraction from Nanocrystals by Introduction of X ray Optics

    Get PDF
Coherent X-ray Diffraction is applied to investigate the structure of individual nanocrystalline silver particles in the 100nm size range. In order to enhance the available signal, Kirkpatrick-Baez focusing optics have been introduced in the 34-ID-C beamline at APS. Concerns about the preservation of coherence under these circumstances are addressed through experiment and by calculations

Edgeworth Expansions for Semiparametric Averaged Derivatives - (Now published in Econometrica, 68 (2000), pp.931-979.)

    Get PDF
A valid Edgeworth expansion is established for the limit distribution of density-weighted semiparametric averaged derivative estimates of single index models. The leading term that corrects the normal limit varies in magnitude, depending on the choice of bandwidth and kernel order. In general this term has order larger than the n -½ that prevails in standard parametric problems, but we find circumstances in which it is O(n -½), thereby extending the achievement of an n -½ Berry-Essen bound in Robinson (1995). A valid empirical Edgeworth expansion is also established. We also provide theoretical and empirical Edgeworth expansions for a studentized statistic, where the correction terms are different from those for the unstudentized case. We report a Monte Carlo study of finite sample performance.Edgeworth expansion, semiparametric estimates, averaged derivatives

Development of EHD Ion-Drag Micropump for Microscale Electronics Cooling Systems

    Get PDF
In this investigation, the numerical simulation of electrohydrodynamic (EHD) ion-drag micropumps with micropillar electrode geometries have been performed. The effect of micropillar height and electrode spacing on the performance of the micropumps was investigated. The performance of the EHD micropump improved with increased applied voltage and decreased electrode spacing. The optimum micropillar height for the micropump with electrode spacing of 40μ\mum and channel height of 100μ\mum at 200V was 40μ\mum, where a maximum mass flow rate of 0.18g/min was predicted. Compared to that of planar electrodes, the 3D micropillar electrode geometry enhanced the overall performance of the EHD micropumps.Comment: Submitted on behalf of TIMA Editions (http://irevues.inist.fr/tima-editions

ESTSS at 20 years: "a phoenix gently rising from a lava flow of European trauma"

    Get PDF
Roderick J. Ørner, who was President between 1997 and 1999, traces the phoenix-like origins of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS) from an informal business meeting called during the 1st European Conference on Traumatic Stress (ECOTS) in 1987 to its emergence into a formally constituted society. He dwells on the challenges of tendering a trauma society within a continent where trauma has been and remains endemic. ESTSS successes are noted along with a number of personal reflections on activities that give rise to concern for the present as well as its future prospects. Denial of survivors' experiences and turning away from survivors' narratives by reframing their experiences to accommodate helpers' theory-driven imperatives are viewed with alarm. Arguments are presented for making human rights, memory, and ethics core elements of a distinctive European psycho traumatology, which will secure current ESTSS viability and future integrity

Direct Separation of Short Range Order in Intermixed Nanocrystalline and Amorphous Phases

    Get PDF
Diffraction anomalous fine-structure (DAFS) and extended x-ray absorption fine-structure (EXAFS) measurements were combined to determine short range order (SRO) about a single atomic type in a sample of mixed amorphous and nanocrystalline phases of germanium. EXAFS yields information about the SRO of all Ge atoms in the sample, while DAFS determines the SRO of only the ordered fraction. We determine that the first-shell distance distribution is bimodal; the nanocrystalline distance is the same as the bulk crystal, to within 0.01(2)   Å, but the mean amorphous Ge-Ge bond length is expanded by 0.076(19)   Å. This approach can be applied to many systems of mixed amorphous and nanocrystalline phases
