    Contains fulltext : 80594.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access)ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Grading of dysplasia, including head and neck lesions, continues to be a hotly debated subject. It is subjective and lacks intra- and inter-observer reproducibility due to the insufficiency of validated morphological criteria and the biological nature of dysplasia. Moreover, due to the absence of a consensus, several systems are currently employed. OBJECTIVES: The aims of this review are to:1) Highlight the significance of dysplasia and the importance of a valid method for assessing precursor lesions of the head and neck.2) Review the different histopathological classification systems for grading intraepithelial lesions of the head and neck.3) Discuss and review quality requirements for these grading systems. CONCLUSION: Regarding the different classification systems, data concerning the WHO classification system are the most available in current literature. There is no simple relationship or overlapping between the classification systems. Further studies should be done to see whether other systems have advantages above the current WHO system and to discover indications that could lead to an universal classification system for intraepithelial lesions of the head and neck

    The Effect of Visible Light Irradiation on Positronium Formation in Polyethylene at Low Temperature

    The effect of visible light exposing on the ortho-positronium formation in polyethylene was studied. Lifetime spectra of positrons in polyethylene were measured in the temperature range between 50 K and 370 K. It was observed that the visible light quenches the enhancement of ortho-positronium intensity (I3\text{}_{3}) at lower temperature than ca. 250 K - the glass transition temperature of polyethylene. On the other hand, the lifetime of ortho-positronium component (Ï„3\text{}_{3}) was not affected by the presence of the visible light

    Introduction: Sprayable wound dressings containing hydrophobized microparticles (hMPs) are characterized by strong adhesiveness. We examined the effect of hMPs derived from Alaska pollock gelatin on endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) ulcers. Methods: (1) In an in vivo model of miniature swine gastric ESD, gastric ulcers were created by ESD and then sprayed with hMPs or untreated followed by microscopic examination. (2) In an ex vivo ESD model of resected stomach, a pinhole-shaped perforation was created on the ESD ulcer of resected stomach; hMPs were then sprayed on the perforation; and air leakage and intragastric pressure were measured. (3) In an in vivo duodenal ESD model of miniature swine, duodenal artificial ESD ulcers with pinhole-shaped perforation were examined; ulcers were classified into hMPs-sprayed and nonsprayed groups, and inflammation in the intrinsic muscle layer and serosa were compared between the groups.
