    Negotiating Motherhood: the Difficulties and Challenges of Rural First-Time Mothers in Parung, West Java

    A hermeneutic phenomenological study was carried out to explore the difficulties and challenges of being a first-time mother in a rural area in Indonesia. The purposes of the present study were to provide health care providers with a greater understanding of the difficulties and the challenges of early motherhood. The thirteen Indonesian women who participated in this study described their experiences of first-time motherhood during early motherhood. Data were collected through semi structured conversational interviews. Three majors difficulties and challenges were identified: (1) being a new mother is not easy (2) a new mother is not as free as she was before and (3) trying to be a good mother. These challenges have offered insight, information and understanding into the experiences of Indonesian women with early motherhood. Also, this study will give a richer and deeper understanding of the needs of women during this period and about their feelings on the mothering role, which is useful for health care providers and others, who are concerned about this issue.&nbsp

    Attitudes, Belief, and Barriers of Indonesian Oncology Nurses on Providing Assistance to Overcome Sexuality Problem

    Background: Sexuality and problems related to sexuality have been identified as components of nursing care by the nursing profession, nurse educators, other disciplines and patients.Purpose: This study aimed to describe the attitudes and beliefs of the Indonesian oncology nurses towards providing sexual care for the patients with cancer.Methods: The study used a descriptive design. Using convenient sampling method, 135 oncology nurses from three hospitals in Jakarta, Indonesia participated in this study.Results: Over 85% of the nurses believed that discussing sexuality with patients is a taboo and private issue. More than 90% of nurses understood that giving a patient permission to talk about sexual concerns is a nursing responsibility. About 73.3% nurses had beliefs that most hospitalized patients are too sick to be interested in sexuality and agreed that sexuality should be discussed if only the patient initiates it. However, more than 70% of the nurses believed that the patients expect nurses to ask about their sexual concerns.Conclusion: This study revealed that inappropriate attitude and belief of nurses on sexuality aspect of their patients might become a barrier in facilitating the needs of cancer patients to manage the sexuality problem caused by cancer and the treatment. Nurses need to overcome those various barriers so that they can increase the quality of life of the cancer patients

    Pregnancy often assumed as transition period in the woman's life. A Qualitative studi, using fenomenology hermeunetic was carried out to explore women's experiences in rural area of their first pregnancy, included their experiences received from the health care provider. Data were obtained from 9 women whose unstructured formal interviews were tape-recorded dan transcribed. Interviews were conducted in the women's homes on two occasions during pregnancy. The findings reported the women's experiences were varied and diverse. Most had difficulty coping with the physical and emotional symptoms of pregnancy. Loss of control caused anxiety toward with their childbirth The need for support emerged as important from their family and the health care providers. The findings of this study will provide the health care providers deeper understanding about the expectances of new expectant mothers with their first pregnancy, healthy dan wellness

In qualitative research particularly the purpose conducting the literature review varies, based on the type of study to be conducted. In general, to keep the scientific nature of data, using the extensive literature should be conducted after the study has been conducted

    A hermeneutic phenomenological study was carried out to explore the experience of first-time motherhood in rural Indonesia particurly their perception to be a good mother. The purposes of the study were to provide information, insights and a greater understanding for health care practicians to have a better understanding of the needs of new mothers and the ways in which the ferform new roles as a new mother. Thirteen Indonesian women were participated in this study and described their experiences of the first-time motherhood and the ways in which they conduct their role as a good mother. Data were collected through semi structured conversational interviews. The major theme of this study was trying to be a good mother. With sub themes of: (1) to be a good mother must be patient, (2) a good mother has responsibilities to care for the baby, (3) a good mother should be able to manage her time wisely, and (4) a good mother prioritize the baby's needs ahead of their own needs. The result of will provide health care practicians deeper understanding about expectances of new mothers in becoming a good mother

    The purposes of the research were to compare Niswander, Johnson, SML, SFH, and Niswander\u27s modified rules in estimating fetal birth weight on the Population in Jakarta. The design of this study was a cross-sectional that using the medical record. 223 respondens were participated in the study at Puskesmas Pembina Tebet, Jakarta. The result of this study showed that the Niswander\u27s rule, Johnson\u27s rule, SML\u27s rule, and SFH\u27s rule are not valid to estimate the fetal birth weight for the Indonesian pregnant population (p=0.000) and only the modified Niswander\u27s rule that enough to be valid on this population (p=0.205). The conclusion of this study showed that the rules from the westerns researchers for estimating the fetal birth weight is not appropriate to be used the Indonesian pregnant

    Availability of USG facility is still limited at hospital. It is necessary the alternative way on monitoring fetal birth weight, however, the USG is not available. Measurement height of the fundus is the simple way in estimating the fetal birth weight. This study was to examine the validity of using estimated fetal birth weight in predicting fetal birth weight that based on height of fundus. The design of this study was a cross-sectional. The collection of data was carry out in one way measurement while before the birth of baby. Generally, it can be concluded that TBJ rule can be used to predict the fetal birth weight. The result of the study revealed that there is the significant correlation between the prediction using TBJ and the Niswander's modified rules (p = 0.793, = 0.05). However, TBJ rule is easier to be reminded than the Niswander's rule. For further study, it is recommended to validate TBJ rule using better design, number of sample, and data collection. It is important to increase validity and reliability of the result study so that this result study can be generalized for all Indonesian populatio

    Women's Experiences of Sexual Problems After Cervical Cancer Treatment: Lessons From Indonesian Women

    Cervical cancer remains the most common cancer among women. It is the second major cause of women’s deaths in Asia as well as in Indonesia. Cervical cancer treatment also raises issues of long-term physical, psychological, sexual, and social adaptation. The purpose of the study was to describe and to interpret the experiences of Indonesian women who have experienced sexual dysfunction after cervical cancer treatment. Thirteen Indonesian women who were participated in this study described their experiences on the first to two years after cervical cancer treatment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. Four themes were identified (1) physical and psychological sexual complaints after cancer treatment; (2) negative effects of cancer treatment towards intimate relationship with their spouse; (3) efforts to overcome sexual problems; and (4) women’s needs for help to improve their sexual health. These studyfindings offer providing new insights into the experiences of Indonesian women with sexual health problems following cervical cancer treatment. This study can provide nurses and other health care providers with better understanding of the experiences, concern and needs of the cancer survivors

    Experience Caring Parents Receive The Behavior of Nurses in Premature Infants Facilitate Bonding Attachment. Separation between parents and premature babies in intensive care unit affects in bonding attachment process. This study was a qualitative research design with descriptive phenomenology approach took 7 participants used Purpossive Sampling Technique. This study aims to explore mother's experience received nursing caring in facilitated bonding attachment of premature babies. Data were collected with indepht interview and analized with Colaizzi method. The results of data analysis got seven themes: knowledge improving process; capable to cared their babies; mother's respons with nursing care; was motivated to cared their premature babies, the premature babies needed was fullfiled well; participated in nursing care; and nursing care satisfaction. The result is expectedto be inputin improvingnursing care and bonding attachment in premature babies

Penderita kanker payudara mengalami ketidakpastian, depresi, dan tekanan psikologis. Kondisi ini menyebabkan optimisme terhadap kesembuhan pasien menurun. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi optimisme terhadap kesembuhan pada pasien kanker payudara. Desain penelitian menggunakan cross sectional pada 96 responden. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi secara signifikan terhadap optimisme kesembuhan responden adalah dukungan sosial (p value = 0,015) dan stres (p value = 0,022). Faktor yang paling mempengaruhi adalah dukungan sosial (â = 0,055). Rekomendasi untuk penelitian selanjutnya agar lebih fokus pada intervensi keperawatan yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan dukungan sosial pada pasien kanker payudara.Kata Kunci : Kanker Payudara, Optimisme, Dukungan SosialABSTRACTThe second most common cancer case in Indonesia is breast cancer which its healing is difficult to be predicted. The breast cancer sufferers undergo uncertainty, depression, and psychological pressure. This condition decreases the patient's optimism of healing. This research aimed to identify factors affecting the breast cancer patients' optimism of healing. This study applied cross sectional design with 96 respondents. Factors affecting significantly against respondents' healing optimism were social support (p value = 0,015) and stress (p value = 0,022). The most influencing factor was social support (â = 0,055). It is recommended that the further research will be more focused on the nursing intervention that used to raise social supports for breast cancer patients
