Since China’s commitment to reform, opening up, and modern socialist construction, it has made remarkable achievements in various aspects such as politics, economy, and culture that have impressed the world. Western countries are also more willing to listen to and understand China’s development achievements, and recognize and support China’s international standing. Chinese leaders’ dialogues or foreign policy documents related to political activities are the main source of information about China’s development for foreign countries. Among them, the report of the 20th CPC National Congress is the summary report of the CPC every five years, covering a wide range of political, economic, social and cultural fields, and has an extremely important political status. Therefore, the English translation method of words with Chinese characteristics in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is a very important issue, as these words play an important role in international communication and cooperation. When translating these words, we need to consider their special cultural background, historical origins, and semantic connotations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the translation

Anti-bacterial properties of lactoferrin immobilized wool fabric

    Get PDF
A new biological cross-linker, microbial transglutaminase (mTGase), has been used to catalyze the immobilization of lactoferrin onto the wool fabrics, and the antibacterial properties of immobilized wool on both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria are studied. It is found that the minimal inhibitory concentration of lactoferrin against S·aureus and E·coli is 0.5mg/mL and 0.25mg/mL respectively. As compared to the control sample, the amount of lactoferrin adhered onto the wool fabric improves from 4.87 mg.(g fabric)-1 to 12.96 mg.(g fabric)-1, indicating that the crosslinking reaction initiated by mTGase can increase the amount of lactoferrin fixed onto wool fabric obviously. The ratios of bacteriostasis to S.aureus and E.coli of wool fabrics immobilized with lactoferrin are bound to be 57.95% and 69.96% respectively, showing good antibacterial property

The file attached to this record is the author's final peer reviewed version. The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link. The thiol–ene click reaction has been commonly used for the modification of many materials due to its high efficiency, high selectivity, and reliability. To further promote the sustainable technology for the modification of keratin-based materials, enzymatic biotechnology and thiol–ene click chemistry was integrated for the first time for grafting modification of wool fibers with methoxy polyethylene glycol methacrylate (MPEGMA). Wool fibers were reduced to create thiol groups and then grafted with MPEGMA through a horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-mediated thiol–ene click reaction. In order to understand the grafting mechanism of MPEGMA on wool, l-cysteine was used as a model compound for the thiol group of the reduced wool in the current research. The structures of MPEGMA reacted with l-cysteine and grafted on wool fabrics were investigated by FTIR, MALDI-TOF, Raman spectra, and XPS. The surface morphology, wettability, moisture penetrability, and regain of modified wool fibers were also assessed. The results showed that l-cysteine reacted with MPEGMA through the thiol–ene click reaction. The MPEGMA-grafted wool fabric had good surface wettability, and its moisture penetrability and regain were also improved when compared with untreated wool fabric. The HRP-initiated thiol–ene grafting reaction not only encouraged green and sustainable click chemistry but also provide an alternative eco-friendly approach for modification and functionalization of keratin and keratin-containing materials

Fiber membranes prepared from jute fragments can be valuable, low cost, and renewable. They have broad application prospects in packing bags, geotextiles, filters, and composite reinforcements. Traditionally, chemical adhesives have been used to improve the properties of jute fiber membranes. A series of new laccase, laccase/mediator systems, and multi-enzyme synergisms were attempted. After the laccase treatment of jute fragments, the mechanical properties and surface hydrophobicity of the produced fiber membranes increased because of the cross-coupling of lignins with ether bonds mediated by laccase. The optimum conditions were a buffer pH of 4.5 and an incubation temperature of 60 °C with 0.92 U/mL laccase for 3 h. Laccase/guaiacol and laccase/alkali lignin treatments resulted in remarkable increases in the mechanical properties; in contrast, the laccase/2,2-azino-bis-(3-ethylthiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS) and laccase/2,6-dimethoxyphenol treatments led to a decrease. The laccase/ guaiacol system was favorable to the surface hydrophobicity of jute fiber membranes. However, the laccase/alkali lignin system had the opposite effect. Xylanase/laccase and cellulase/laccase combined treatments were able to enhance both the mechanical properties and the surface hydrophobicity of jute fiber membranes. Among these, cellulase/laccase treatment performed better; compared to mechanical properties, the surface hydrophobicity of the jute fiber membranes showed only a slight increase after the enzymatic multi-step processes.Financially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (51173071, 21274055), Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University (NCET-12-0883), Program for Changjiang Scholars, Innovative Research Team in University (IRT _15R26), and Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities (JUSRP51312B, JUSRP51505
