    Arithmetic purity of strong approximation for homogeneous spaces

    We prove that any open subset UU of a semi-simple simply connected quasi-split linear algebraic group GG with codim(G∖U,G)≥2{codim} (G\setminus U, G)\geq 2 over a number field satisfies strong approximation by establishing a fibration of GG over a toric variety. We also prove a similar result of strong approximation with Brauer-Manin obstruction for a partial equivariant smooth compactification of a homogeneous space where all invertible functions are constant and the semi-simple part of the linear algebraic group is quasi-split. Some semi-abelian varieties of any given dimension where the complements of a rational point do not satisfy strong approximation with Brauer-Manin obstruction are given

    A new three-parameter correlation for gamma-ray bursts with a plateau phase in the afterglow

    Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) have great advantages for their huge burst energies, luminosities and high redshifts in probing the Universe. A few interesting luminosity correlations of GRBs have been used to test cosmology models. Especially, for a subsample of long GRBs with known redshifts and a plateau phase in the afterglow, a correlation between the end time of the plateau phase (in the GRB rest frame) and the corresponding X-ray luminosity has been found. In this paper, we re-analyze the subsample and found that a significantly tighter correlation exists when we add a third parameter, i.e. the isotropic γ\gamma-ray energy release, into the consideration. Additionally, both long and intermediate duration GRBs are consistent with the same three-parameter correlation equation. It is argued that the new three-parameter correlation is consistent with the hypothesis that the subsample of GRBs with a plateau phase in the afterglow be associated with the birth of rapidly rotating magnetars, and that the plateau be due to the continuous energy-injection from the magnetar.     Searching for high-KK isomers in the proton-rich A∼80A\sim80 mass region

    Configuration-constrained potential-energy-surface calculations have been performed to investigate the KK isomerism in the proton-rich A∼80A\sim80 mass region. An abundance of high-KK states are predicted. These high-KK states arise from two and four-quasi-particle excitations, with Kπ=8+K^{\pi}=8^{+} and Kπ=16+K^{\pi}=16^{+}, respectively. Their excitation energies are comparatively low, making them good candidates for long-lived isomers. Since most nuclei under studies are prolate spheroids in their ground states, the oblate shapes of the predicted high-KK states may indicate a combination of KK isomerism and shape isomerism

    It is found that 1E 1207.4-5209 could be a low-mass bare strange star if its small radius or low altitude cyclotron formation can be identified. The age problems of five sources could be solved by a fossil-disk-assisted torque.
