Validation of 7 Years in-Flight HY-2A Calibration Microwave Radiometer Products Using Numerical Weather Model and Radiosondes

    Get PDF
Haiyang-2A (HY-2A) has been working in-flight for over seven years, and the accuracy of HY-2A calibration microwave radiometer (CMR) data is extremely important for the wet troposphere delay correction (WTC) in sea surface height (SSH) determination. We present a comprehensive evaluation of the HY-2A CMR observation using the numerical weather model (NWM) for all the data available period from October 2011 to February 2018, including the WTC and the precipitable water vapor (PWV). The ERA(ECMWF Re-Analysis)-Interim products from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) are used for the validation of HY-2A WTC and PWV products. In general, a global agreement of root-mean-square (RMS) of 2.3 cm in WTC and 3.6 mm in PWV are demonstrated between HY-2A observation and ERA-Interim products. Systematic biases are revealed where before 2014 there was a positive WTC/PWV bias and after that, a negative one. Spatially, HY-2A CMR products show a larger bias in polar regions compared with mid-latitude regions and tropical regions and agree better in the Antarctic than in the Arctic with NWM. Moreover, HY-2A CMR products have larger biases in the coastal area, which are all caused by the brightness temperature (TB) contamination from land or sea ice. Temporally, the WTC/PWV biases increase from October 2011 to March 2014 with a systematic bias over 1 cm in WTC and 2 mm in PWV, and the maximum RMS values of 4.62 cm in WTC and 7.61 mm in PWV occur in August 2013, which is because of the unsuitable retrieval coefficients and systematic TB measurements biases from 37 GHz band. After April 2014, the TB bias is corrected, HY-2A CMR products agree very well with NWM from April 2014 to May 2017 with the average RMS of 1.68 cm in WTC and 2.65 mm in PWV. However, since June 2017, TB measurements from the 18.7 GHz band become unstable, which led to the huge differences between HY-2A CMR products and the NWM with an average RMS of 2.62 cm in WTC and 4.33 mm in PWV. HY-2A CMR shows high accuracy when three bands work normally and further calibration for HY-2A CMR is in urgent need. Furtherly, 137 global coastal radiosonde stations were used to validate HY-2A CMR. The validation based on radiosonde data shows the same variation trend in time of HY-2A CMR compared to the results from ECMWF, which verifies the results from ECMWF

Advances in Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms of Vitamin D Metabolic Pathway Genes and Respiratory Diseases

    Get PDF
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. It is an essential vitamin for human body. It has a classical effect on regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Participate in cellular and humoral immune processes by regulating the growth, differentiation and metabolism of immune cells. A large number of studies in recent years have shown that vitamin D deficiency increases the incidence of respiratory diseases. Respiratory diseases mainly include bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tuberculosis, acute upper respiratory tract infection and pneumonia. Vitamin D metabolic pathway genes play a very important regulatory role in the transformation of vitamin D into active vitamin D, including CYP2R1,,CYP27B1, CYP24A1, VDBP, VDR five genes. Genetic polymorphism of genes is the molecular basis of individual differences and disease development. Therefore, this paper summarizes the research on single nucleotide polymorphism of vitamin D metabolic pathway gene and respiratory diseases. In order to provide a new idea for future treatment

Cocktail: Learn a Better Neural Network Controller from Multiple Experts via Adaptive Mixing and Robust Distillation

    Get PDF
Neural networks are being increasingly applied to control and decision-making for learning-enabled cyber-physical systems (LE-CPSs). They have shown promising performance without requiring the development of complex physical models; however, their adoption is significantly hindered by the concerns on their safety, robustness, and efficiency. In this work, we propose COCKTAIL, a novel design framework that automatically learns a neural network-based controller from multiple existing control methods (experts) that could be either model-based or neural network-based. In particular, COCKTAIL first performs reinforcement learning to learn an optimal system-level adaptive mixing strategy that incorporates the underlying experts with dynamically-assigned weights and then conducts a teacher-student distillation with probabilistic adversarial training and regularization to synthesize a student neural network controller with improved control robustness (measured by a safe control rate metric with respect to adversarial attacks or measurement noises), control energy efficiency, and verifiability (measured by the computation time for verification). Experiments on three non-linear systems demonstrate significant advantages of our approach on these properties over various baseline methods.Comment: The paper has been accepted by Design Automation Conference 202

Event-triggered dynamic output quantized control for 2-D switched systems

    Get PDF
It is well known that designing mode-dependent event-triggered control (MDETC) brings challenging difficulties to theoretical analysis, especially for two-dimensional (2-D) switched systems. Therefore, for 2-D switched Fornasini–Marchesini local state-space (FMLSS) systems, this paper designs a MDETC to investigate global exponential stabilization almost surely (GES a.s.). A MDETC based on dynamic output quantization control scheme is designed, which not only has a wide range of practicability, but also greatly saves network bandwidth resources. By constructing mode-dependent Lyapunov functions that include two time directions, some novel sufficient conditions are provided such that the switched FMLSS system achieves GES a.s. Unlike most previous results, our results do not require each mode to be stable, not even after adding control. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to verify the validity of our main theoretical results

Opportunistic Intermittent Control with Safety Guarantees for Autonomous Systems

    Get PDF
Control schemes for autonomous systems are often designed in a way that anticipates the worst case in any situation. At runtime, however, there could exist opportunities to leverage the characteristics of specific environment and operation context for more efficient control. In this work, we develop an online intermittent-control framework that combines formal verification with model-based optimization and deep reinforcement learning to opportunistically skip certain control computation and actuation to save actuation energy and computational resources without compromising system safety. Experiments on an adaptive cruise control system demonstrate that our approach can achieve significant energy and computation savings

Validating HY-2A CMR precipitable water vapor using ground-based and shipborne GNSS observations

The calibration microwave radiometer (CMR) on board the Haiyang-2A (HY-2A) satellite provides wet tropospheric delay correction for altimetry data, which can also contribute to the understanding of climate system and weather processes. The ground-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) provides precise precipitable water vapor (PWV) with high temporal resolution and could be used for calibration and monitoring of the CMR data, and shipborne GNSS provides accurate PWV over open oceans, which can be directly compared with uncontaminated CMR data. In this study, the HY-2A CMR water vapor product is validated using ground-based GNSS observations of 100 International GNSS Service (IGS) stations along the global coastline and 56 d shipborne GNSS observations over the Indian Ocean. The processing strategy for GNSS data and CMR data is discussed in detail. Special efforts were made in the quality control and reconstruction of contaminated CMR data. The validation result shows that HY-2A CMR PWV agrees well with ground-based GNSS PWV with 2.67 mm as the root mean square (rms) within 100 km. Geographically, the rms is 1.12 mm in the polar region and 2.78 mm elsewhere. The PWV agreement between HY-2A and shipborne GNSS shows a significant correlation with the distance between the ship and the satellite footprint, with an rms of 1.57 mm for the distance threshold of 100 km. Ground-based GNSS and shipborne GNSS agree with HY-2A CMR well

Looking at a single currency for ASEAN-5 : an empirical study of economic convergence and symmetry

    No full text
The research investigates the feasibility of adopting a single currency for ASEAN-5 nations. Previous research (Kendall 2000, Ng 2000 and Lim and McAleer 2003) pointed out that if the national economies are not converging, or if the responses of national economies to the random shocks are asymmetric, the cost of premature monetary integration would be high. According to the two economic preconditions for a currency union, the research tests economic convergence among ASEAN-5, Japan and the U.S.A by implementing the Kalman Filter procedure, moreover, the symmetry of underlying structural shocks are also examined by applying a structural vector autoregression (SVAR) model. The research found out Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand (ASEAN-3) appear to be relatively suitable to form an Optimum Currency Area (OCA) as a start. However, this research did not find strong evidence for whether the Japanese Yen or US dollar will be a suitable currency for the ASEAN-3 countries to adopt commonly. Therefore, this study also discussed the possibility of pegging the currencies of the ASEAN-3 countries to a basket of currencies, comprising the US dollar, Japanese Yen and Euro. This research didn't restrict ASEAN-3 countries to any types of common currency or currencies. However it is important to note that regional exchange rate stability and competitiveness are always the major concern for the ASEAN-3 countries. The ASEAN region has been making progress towards regional integration, but there are still stumbling blocks on the way. These appear in the forms such as the divergence of stages of economic development and exchange rate systems. This research suggests there is a long way before countries in the ASEAN region will be able to form a currency union and fully benefit from it

A FPGA implementation of GMM MUD algorithm for space formation aircraft communication system

    No full text
Space formation aircraft communication system needs to meet strong anti-interference ability, low power consumption and high transmission rate performance. Ultra-wideband (UWB) has high data transfer rate, low device complexity, high interference resistance and confidentiality. Therefore, UWB technology is used in space formation aircraft communication system, which is direct sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) space formation aircraft communication system. This paper, we put forward a multi-user detection (MUD) algorithm based on Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) in DS-UWB communication system and its field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation. We adopt a way which based on MATLAB and FPGA platform, and results show that MUD algorithm based on GMM has better bit error rate (BER) performance compared to classical multi-user detection algorithm
