    An Online Word Vector Generation Method Based on Incremental Huffman Tree Merging

    Aiming at high real-time performance processing requirements for large amounts of online text data in natural language processing applications, an online word vector model generation method based on incremental Huffman tree merging is proposed. Maintaining the inherited word Huffman tree in existing word vector model unchanged, a new Huffman tree of incoming words is constructed and ensures that there is no leaf node identical to the inherited Huffman tree. Then the Huffman tree is updated by a method of node merging. Thus based on the existing word vector model, each word still has a unique encoding for the calculation of the hierarchical softmax model. Finally, the generation of incremental word vector model is realized by using neural network on the basis of hierarchical softmax model. The experimental results show that the method could realize the word vector model generation online based on incremental learning with faster time and better performance

    The role of basic health insurance on depression: an epidemiological cohort study of a randomized community sample in Northwest China

    BACKGROUND: Little research has focused on the relationship between health insurance and mental health in the community. The objective of this study is to determine how the basic health insurance system influences depression in Northwest China. METHODS: Participants were selected from 32 communities in two northwestern Chinese cities through a three-stage random sampling. Three waves of interviews were completed in April 2006, December 2006, and January 2008. The baseline survey was completed by 4,079 participants. Subsequently, 2,220 participants completed the first follow-up, and 1,888 completed the second follow-up. Depression symptoms were measured by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). RESULTS: A total of 40.0% of participants had at least one form of health insurance. The percentages of participants with severe depressive symptoms in the three waves were 21.7%, 22.0%, and 17.6%. Depressive symptoms were found to be more severe among participants without health insurance in the follow-up surveys. After adjusting for confounders, participants without health insurance were found to experience a higher risk of developing severe depressive symptoms than participants with health insurance (7 months: OR, 1.40; 95% CI, 1.09-1.82; p = 0.01; 20 months: OR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.37-2.61; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: A lack of basic health insurance can dramatically increase the risk of depression based on northwestern Chinese community samples

    Electrical properties of yttrium calcium oxyborate crystal annealed at high temperature and low oxygen partial pressure

    The yttrium calcium oxyborate crystal (YCa 4 O(BO 3 ) 3 , YCOB) has been actively studied for high-temperature piezoelectric sensing applications. In this work, the stability of electric properties of YCOB crystal annealed in critical conditions (high-temperatures of 900-1100 °C with a low oxygen partial pressure of 4 x 10 −6 atm for 24 h) was investigated and the recovery mechanism for the electrical resisitivity, dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss were studied, taking advantage of the X-ray photoelectron spectra and the first principle calculations. The electrical resistivity of the annealed YCOB crystal was slightly decreased when compared to the pristine counterpart, being (2-5) x 10 7 Ω cm at 850 °C. The dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss were found to increase after annealing, showing recoverable behaviours after thermal treatment above 650 °C in air. The calculated vacancy formation energy indicate that the oxygen vacancy is the dominant defects in YCOB. The formation of oxygen vacancy weakens the chemical bonding strength between B (Ca or Y) and O atoms, introduces extra donor levels in the band gap, which excites the electrons to conduction band more easily thus enhances the electrical conductivity and dielectric loss. The recovered electrical properties are believed to be associated with the reduced vacancy defects at elevated temperatures in air

    Genome-wide Association Study Identifies New Loci Associated With Risk Of HBV Infection And Disease Progression

    Background: Recent studies have identified susceptibility genes of HBV clearance, chronic hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and showed the host genetic factors play an important role in these HBV-related outcomes. Results: In order to discover new susceptibility genes for HBV-related outcomes, we conducted a genome-wide association study in 1031 Chinese participants, including 275 HBV clearance subjects, 92 asymptomatic persistence infection carriers (ASPI), 93 chronic hepatitis B patients (CHB), 188 HBV-related decompensated cirrhosis patients (DC), 214 HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma patients (HCC) and 169 healthy controls (HC). In the case-control study, we observed novel locus significantly associated with CHB (SNP: rs1264473, Gene: GRHL2, P = 1.57×10-6) and HCC (SNP: rs2833856, Gene: EVA1C, P = 1.62×10-6; SNP: rs4661093, Gene: ETV3, P = 2.26×10-6). In the trend study across progressive stages post HBV infection, one novel locus (SNP: rs1537862, Gene: LACE1, P = 1.85×10-6), and three MHC loci (HLA-DRB1, HLA-DPB1, HLA-DPA2) showed significant increased progressive risk from ASPI to CHB. Interestingly, underlying the evolutionary study of HBV-related genes in public database, we found that the derived allele of two HBV clearance related locus, rs3077 and rs9277542, are under strong selection in European population. Conclusions: In this study, we identified several novel candidate genes associated with individual HBV infectious outcomes, progressive stages, and liver enzymes. Moreover, we identified two SNPs that show selective significance (HLA-DPA1, HLA-DPB1) in non-East Asian (European, American, South Asian) versus East Asian, indicating that host genetic factors contribute to the ethnic disparities of susceptibility of HBV infection. Taken together, these findings provided a new insight into the role of host genetic factors in HBV related outcomes and progression

    A Combined SERS and MCBJ Study on Molecular Junctions on Silicon Chips

    We have developed a combined Surface-enhanced raman spectroscopy (SERS) and mechanically controllable break junction (MCBJ) method to detect and characterize molecular junctions formed by two electrochemically nanofabricated electrodes on silicon chips. The method allows us to obtain vibrational spectra of the molecular junction and perform electron transport measurement on the molecules simultaneously. The preliminary IN characterization and SERS measurement on an asymmetric molecule, OPE-NO(2), and a symmetric molecule, OPE, were conducted. This approach may provide new insights into not only electron transport in molecules, but also the enhancement mechanism in single-molecule SERS

    Presence of Anxiety and Depression Symptoms Affects the First Time Treatment Efficacy and Recurrence of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

    ObjectivesTo investigate the possible effects of anxiety and/or depression symptoms on the treatment outcomes and recurrence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).MethodsThis is a retrospective study conducted at a single institution. 142 consecutive patients diagnosed with idiopathic BPPV at the Department of Otology in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University between October 2016 and July 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. 127 patients were finally included in this study. Zung self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and Zung self-rating depression scale (SDS) were used to evaluate the presence of anxiety and/or depression, respectively, in our BPPV patients. A significant score (at or above 50 for SAS and 53 for SDS) represents the presence of clinically significant symptoms. Two-tailed Student’s t-test, χ2 test, and logistic regression analysis were used as appropriate. A p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.ResultsThe prevalence of anxiety and/or depression symptoms in BPPV patients in the present study was 49.61%. The effectiveness of the first time canalith repositioning maneuver (CRM) was 70.08%. With weekly follow-up treatments of CRM, the success rate increased to 97.64% by 1 month. The total recurrence rate at 6-month follow-up post-cure was 14.17%. Holding all other variables constant, patients with psychiatric symptoms (Relative-risk ratio: 3.160; p = 0.027) and patients with non-posterior semicircular canal (PSC) involvement (Relative-risk ratio: 7.828, p = 0.013) were more likely to experience residual dizziness (RD) even after effective CRM treatment. Psychiatric symptoms (Relative-risk ratio: 6.543; p = 0.001) and female gender (Relative-risk ratio: 4.563; p = 0.010) are risk factors for the failure of first time CRM. In addition, BPPV patients with psychiatric symptoms (Odds ratio: 9.184, p = 0.008) were significantly more likely to experience recurrences within the first 6 months after a successful maneuver.ConclusionAnxiety-depression status significantly reduced the efficacy of the first time CRM and increased the risk for recurrence. Other factors, such as female gender and non-PSC involvement are also susceptible risk factors for BPPV patients to require multiple treatments and experience delayed recovery. A screening for psychiatric symptoms in BPPV patients and active treatment of these symptoms would benefit both physicians and patients in understanding and improving the prognosis of the disease and treatment options

    Long-term exposure to low-dose Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate aggravated high fat diet-induced obesity in female mice

    The potential obesogenic roles of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) have attracted great attention. The current study aimed to evaluate the combined effects of chronic low-dose DEHP (0.05 mg/kg BW) and a high-fat diet (HFD) on obesity in female mice and explore the underlying mechanisms. We found that low-dose DEHP challenge for 29 weeks increased fat accumulation both in CD- and HFD-fed mice and significantly accelerated the weight gain without affecting food intake in HFD-fed mice. DEHP exposure reduced the energy metabolism, down-regulated the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and total oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) proteins expression in the brown adipose tissue, and up-regulated the PPARγ expression and its phosphorylation at Ser273 in white adipose tissue (WAT). Besides, the combination of DEHP and HFD drove the remodeling of gut microbiota of mice, characterized by the reduced richness and diversity and the elevated Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) analysis revealed that DEHP and HFD cotreatment led to a decrease in levels of acetic acid, butyric acid, and pentanoic acid. Interestingly, sodium butyrate (NaB) significantly inhibited the adipogenesis and lipid accumulation of NIH/3T3 mouse embryonic fibroblasts (PPARγ2 overexpression) and the PPARγ phosphorylation at Ser273 induced by DEHP or MEHP. These findings demonstrate that chronic low-dose DEHP challenge could prompt fat accumulation by increasing PPARγ phosphorylation at Ser273 and decreasing thermogenesis in BAT, which might be associated with the SCFAs reduction
