    Hearth: A Game Supporting Non-Intrusive and Concurrent Tracking of Player Emotion and Mouse Usage

    Empirical evidence has supported the idea that eSports players\u27 emotions could be reflected in their mouse usage. Still, findings from IS literature on the exact relationships between users\u27 mouse usage patterns and their emotional states have been mixed. Possible causes include adjustment effects and offsetting effects. To address these problems, this study proposes a self-developed game named Hearth, which supports non-intrusive and concurrent tracking of players\u27 emotions and mouse usage. The game design supports the examination of the two possible effects. Results show that negative emotion was positively associated with the total mouse movement distance in a game turn, average task-level distance, and average task-level speed. Moreover, the open-source game proposed in this study facilitates further data collection from natural experiments due to its triadic design that addresses reality, meaning, and play

    Dynamic Behavior of Interacting between Epidemics and Cascades on Heterogeneous Networks

    Epidemic spreading and cascading failure are two important dynamical processes over complex networks. They have been investigated separately for a long history. But in the real world, these two dynamics sometimes may interact with each other. In this paper, we explore a model combined with SIR epidemic spreading model and local loads sharing cascading failure model. There exists a critical value of tolerance parameter that whether the epidemic with high infection probability can spread out and infect a fraction of the network in this model. When the tolerance parameter is smaller than the critical value, cascading failure cuts off abundant of paths and blocks the spreading of epidemic locally. While the tolerance parameter is larger than the critical value, epidemic spreads out and infects a fraction of the network. A method for estimating the critical value is proposed. In simulation, we verify the effectiveness of this method in Barab\'asi-Albert (BA) networks

    Fundamentals of microfluidics fabrication process and the machining of hollow micropillar array

    This report firstly introduces the fundamental knowledge of microfabrication which will be used in producing micropillar array, such as photolithography, physical vapor deposition, lift-off and reactive ion etching. Then by using different instruments to do microfabrication, which involves four main steps: lift-off, etching holes from backside of wafer, etching holes from frontside of wafer and etching pillars from frontside of wafer. The details of these four steps will be shown in this report. Finally, the outcome will be discussed by comparing the difference between designed dimensions and real micropillar dimensions. The main drawback of this experiment is also discussed and found out how to solve this problem

    A Scale-Free Topology Construction Model for Wireless Sensor Networks

    A local-area and energy-efficient (LAEE) evolution model for wireless sensor networks is proposed. The process of topology evolution is divided into two phases. In the first phase, nodes are distributed randomly in a fixed region. In the second phase, according to the spatial structure of wireless sensor networks, topology evolution starts from the sink, grows with an energy-efficient preferential attachment rule in the new node's local-area, and stops until all nodes are connected into network. Both analysis and simulation results show that the degree distribution of LAEE follows the power law. This topology construction model has better tolerance against energy depletion or random failure than other non-scale-free WSN topologies.Comment: 13pages, 3 figure

    Free radical-scavenging activity and flavonoid contents of Polygonum orientale leaf, stem, and seed extracts

    The present study was designed to explore the total flavonoid and taxifolin contents and the radical-scavenging activity of 50% ethanol extracts of Polygonum orientale leaves, stems, and seeds by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The extract with higher total flavonoid content has higher radical scavenging activity. Taxifolin (IC50 = 2.83 μmol/L) has antioxidant activity stronger than that of rutin (IC50 = 3.08 μmol/L). The free radical-scavenging potentials of chloroform, ethyl acetate, water, ethanol, and methanol extracts of Polygonum orientale seeds were also investigated. The free radical-scavenging abilities of various extracts were determined as: methanol > ethanol > water > ethyl acetate > chloroform
