Linear implicit approximations of invariant measures of semi-linear SDEs with non-globally Lipschitz coefficients

This article investigates the weak approximation towards the invariant measure of semi-linear stochastic differential equations (SDEs) under non-globally Lipschitz coefficients. For this purpose, we propose a linear-theta-projected Euler (LTPE) scheme, which also admits an invariant measure, to handle the potential influence of the linear stiffness. Under certain assumptions, both the SDE and the corresponding LTPE method are shown to converge exponentially to the underlying invariant measures, respectively. Moreover, with time-independent regularity estimates for the corresponding Kolmogorov equation, the weak error between the numerical invariant measure and the original one can be guaranteed with an order one. Numerical experiments are provided to verify our theoretical findings.Comment: 45 pages, 7 figure

In terms of computational complexity, the proposed ergodicity preserving scheme with the nonlinearity explicitly treated has a significant advantage over the ergodicity preserving implicit Euler method in the literature. Objective: Oral ulcers are a lesion in the oral mucosa that impacts chewing or drinking. Epoxyeicosatrienoic Acids (EETs) have enhanced angiogenic, regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of 1-Trifluoromethoxyphenyl-3-(1-Propionylpiperidin-4-yl) Urea (TPPU), a soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitor for increasing EETs level, on the healing of oral ulcers. Methods: The chemically-induced oral ulcers were established in Sprague Dawley rats. The ulcer area was treated with TPPU to evaluate the healing time and pain threshold of ulcers. The expression of angiogenesis and cell proliferation-related protein in the ulcer area was detected using immunohistochemical staining. The effects of TPPU on migration and angiogenesis capability were measured with scratch assay and tube formation. Results: Compared with the control group, TPPU promoted wound healing of oral ulcers with a shorter healing time, and raised pain thresholds. Immunohistochemical staining showed that TPPU increased the expression of angiogenesis and cell proliferation-related protein with reduced inflammatory cell infiltration in the ulcer area. TPPU enhanced cell migration and tube-forming potential in vitro. Conclusions: The present results support the potential of TPPU with multiple biological effects for the treatment of oral ulcers by targeting soluble epoxide hydrolase

HEAD: HEtero-Assists Distillation for Heterogeneous Object Detectors

Conventional knowledge distillation (KD) methods for object detection mainly concentrate on homogeneous teacher-student detectors. However, the design of a lightweight detector for deployment is often significantly different from a high-capacity detector. Thus, we investigate KD among heterogeneous teacher-student pairs for a wide application. We observe that the core difficulty for heterogeneous KD (hetero-KD) is the significant semantic gap between the backbone features of heterogeneous detectors due to the different optimization manners. Conventional homogeneous KD (homo-KD) methods suffer from such a gap and are hard to directly obtain satisfactory performance for hetero-KD. In this paper, we propose the HEtero-Assists Distillation (HEAD) framework, leveraging heterogeneous detection heads as assistants to guide the optimization of the student detector to reduce this gap. In HEAD, the assistant is an additional detection head with the architecture homogeneous to the teacher head attached to the student backbone. Thus, a hetero-KD is transformed into a homo-KD, allowing efficient knowledge transfer from the teacher to the student. Moreover, we extend HEAD into a Teacher-Free HEAD (TF-HEAD) framework when a well-trained teacher detector is unavailable. Our method has achieved significant improvement compared to current detection KD methods. For example, on the MS-COCO dataset, TF-HEAD helps R18 RetinaNet achieve 33.9 mAP (+2.2), while HEAD further pushes the limit to 36.2 mAP (+4.5).Comment: ECCV 2022, Code: https://github.com/LutingWang/HEA

Research Progress on Survival Mechanism and Control Measures of Salmonella enterica Serovar Enteritidis in Egg White

Salmonella is one of the most common pathogens causing foodborne diseases. Eggs and egg products are important food vehicles for its transmission. Among the many serotypes of Salmonella, S. enterica serovar Enteritidis has a unique advantage in surviving egg white because of its resist to antibacterial molecules in egg white, which can lead to food poisoning. In recent years, the survival strategies of S. enteritidis serovar Enteritidis in egg white have been explored by using molecular biological techniques such as transposon mutations, in vivo expression, high-throughput sequencing and omics, and some key metabolic pathways and stress resistance-related genes/proteins have been discovered. However, the function of stress resistance-related genes has not been fully revealed, and there is a lack of a comprehensive summary of the existing research. Therefore, the current situation and transmission routes of Salmonella contaminated eggs are briefly introduced in this review. Furthermore, the latest progress in research on the survival mechanism of S. enteritidis serovar Enteritidis in egg white is summarized from the perspectives of nutrient availability, membrane stress response, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage repair, alkaline pH adaptation, osmotic stress response and energy metabolism. Finally, the biological control methods for Salmonella are summarized, including vaccines, bacteriophages, and probiotics. Meanwhile, future research directions are discussed. This article will provide an important reference for effective control of Salmonella in eggs and egg products

Adverse Events Associated With Anti-IL-23 Agents: Clinical Evidence and Possible Mechanisms

BackgroundAnti-interleukin (IL)-23 agents are widely used for autoimmune disease treatment; however, the safety and risks of specific symptoms have not been systematically assessed.ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to summarize the characteristics and mechanisms of occurrence of five immunological and non-immunological adverse events caused by different anti-IL-23 agents.MethodsThe Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PubMed, and Web of Science databases were searched for eligible randomized clinical trials published from inception through May 1, 2020. Randomized clinical trials that reported at least one type of adverse event after treatment were included, regardless of sex, age, ethnicity, and diagnosis. Two investigators independently screened and extracted the characteristics of the studies, participants, drugs, and adverse event types. The Cochrane Handbook was used to assess the methodological quality of the included randomized clinical trials. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistic. Meta-regression was applied to determine the sources of heterogeneity, and subgroup analysis was used to identify the factors contributing to adverse events.ResultsForty-eight studies were included in the meta-analysis, comprising 25,624 patients treated with anti-IL-23 agents. Serious immunological or non-immunological adverse events were rare. Anti-IL-12/23-p40 agents appeared to cause adverse events more easily than anti-IL-23-p19 agents. The incidence of cancer did not appear to be related to anti-IL-23 agent treatment, and long-term medication could lead to mental diseases. The prevention of complications should be carefully monitored when administered for over approximately 40 weeks to avoid further adverse reactions, and the incidence of infection was the highest among general immunological adverse events.ConclusionsThe application of anti-IL-23 agents induced a series of immunological and non-immunological adverse events, but these agents tend to be well-tolerated with good safety profiles

Reactive oxygen species may be involved in the distinctive biological effects of different doses of 12C6+ ion beams on Arabidopsis

IntroductionHeavy ion beam is a novel approach for crop mutagenesis with the advantage of high energy transfer line density and low repair effect after injury, however, little investigation on the biological effect on plant was performed. 50 Gy irradiation significantly stimulated the growth of Arabidopsis seedlings, as indicated by an increase in root and biomass, while 200 Gy irradiation significantly inhibited the growth of seedlings, causing a visible decrease in plant growth.MethodsThe Arabidopsis seeds were irradiated by 12C6+. Monte Carlo simulations were used to calculate the damage to seeds and particle trajectories by ion implantation. The seed epidermis received SEM detection and changes in its organic composition were detected using FTIR. Evidence of ROS and antioxidant systems were analyzed. RNA-seq and qPCR were used to detect changes in seedling transcript levels. Results and discussionMonte Carlo simulations revealed that high-dose irradiation causes various damage. Evidence of ROS and antioxidant systems implies that the emergence of phenotypes in plant cells may be associated with oxidative stress. Transcriptomic analysis of the seedlings demonstrated that 170 DEGs were present in the 50 Gy and 200 Gy groups and GO enrichment indicated that they were mainly associated with stress resistance and cell wall homeostasis. Further GO enrichment of DEGs unique to 50 Gy and 200 Gy revealed 58 50Gy-exclusive DEGs were enriched in response to oxidative stress and jasmonic acid entries, while 435 200 Gy-exclusive DEGs were enriched in relation to oxidative stress, organic cyclic compounds, and salicylic acid. This investigation advances our insight into the biological effects of heavy ion irradiation and the underlying mechanisms
