On the scalar nonet in the extended Nambu Jona-Lasinio model
We discuss the lightest scalar resonances, , ,
and in the extended Nambu Jona-Lasinio model. We find
that the model parameters can be tuned, but unnaturally, to accommodate for
those scalars except the . We also discuss problems encountered in
the K Matrix unitarization approximation by using counting technique.Comment: 23 pages 3 eps figures, To appear in Nucl. Phys.
Zero-Shot Learning -- A Comprehensive Evaluation of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Due to the importance of zero-shot learning, i.e. classifying images where
there is a lack of labeled training data, the number of proposed approaches has
recently increased steadily. We argue that it is time to take a step back and
to analyze the status quo of the area. The purpose of this paper is three-fold.
First, given the fact that there is no agreed upon zero-shot learning
benchmark, we first define a new benchmark by unifying both the evaluation
protocols and data splits of publicly available datasets used for this task.
This is an important contribution as published results are often not comparable
and sometimes even flawed due to, e.g. pre-training on zero-shot test classes.
Moreover, we propose a new zero-shot learning dataset, the Animals with
Attributes 2 (AWA2) dataset which we make publicly available both in terms of
image features and the images themselves. Second, we compare and analyze a
significant number of the state-of-the-art methods in depth, both in the
classic zero-shot setting but also in the more realistic generalized zero-shot
setting. Finally, we discuss in detail the limitations of the current status of
the area which can be taken as a basis for advancing it.Comment: Accepted by TPAMI in July, 2018. We introduce Proposed Split Version

Arbitrarily Large Continuous-Variable Cluster States from a Single Quantum Nondemolition Gate
We present a compact experimental design for producing an arbitrarily large
optical continuous-variable cluster state using just one single-mode vacuum
squeezer and one quantum nondemolition gate. Generating the cluster state and
computing with it happen simultaneously: more entangled modes become available
as previous modes are measured, thereby making finite the requirements for
coherence and stability even as the computation length increases indefinitely.Comment: (v2) 5 pages, 4 color figures, added brief mention of fault

Excitation energy transfer: Study with non-Markovian dynamics
In this paper, we investigate the non-Markovian dynamics of a model to mimic
the excitation energy transfer (EET) between chromophores in photosynthesis
systems. The numerical path integral method is used. This method includes the
non-Markovian effects of the environmental affects and it does not need the
perturbation approximation in solving the dynamics of systems of interest. It
implies that the coherence helps the EET between chromophores through lasting
the transfer time rather than enhances the transfer rate of the EET. In
particular, the non-Markovian environment greatly increase the efficiency of
the EET in the photosynthesis systems.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
In situ imaging of microstructure formation in electronic interconnections
The development of microstructure during melting, reactive wetting and solidification of solder pastes on Cu-plated printed circuit boards has been studied by synchrotron radiography. Using Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu/Cu and Sn-0.7Cu/Cu as examples, we show that the interfacial Cu6Sn5 layer is present within 0.05 s of wetting, and explore the kinetics of flux void formation at the interface between the liquid and the Cu6Sn5 layer. Quantification of the nucleation locations and anisotropic growth kinetics of primary Cu6Sn5 crystals reveals a competition between the nucleation of Cu6Sn5 in the liquid versus growth of Cu6Sn5 from the existing Cu6Sn5 layer. Direct imaging confirms that the β-Sn nucleates at/near the Cu6Sn5 layer in Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu/Cu joints
