    MultisegPipeline: Automatic tissue segmentation of brain MR images with subject-specific atlases

    Automated segmentation and labeling of individual brain anatomical regions is challenging due to individual structural variability. Although, atlas-based segmentation has shown its potential for both tissue and structure segmentation, the inherent natural variability as well as disease-related changes in MR appearance is often inappropriately represented by a single atlas image. In order to have a more accurate representation, several atlases may be used for the segmentation task in a given neuroimaging study. In this paper, we present the MultisegPipeline, it uses multiple atlases that have been visually inspected and capture the expected variability in a neonatal population. The MultisegPipeline transfers the labeled regions from each atlas to the target image using deformable registration (ANTs or QuickSilver is available for this task). Additionally, the set of labels are merged using a label fusion technique that reduces the errors produced by the registration. The final output is a single label map that combines the results produced by all atlases into a consensus solution. In our study, the MultisegPipeline is used to segment brain MR images from 31 infants, a leave-one-out strategy was used to test our framework. The average dice score coefficient was 0.89

    Laser action of Nd3+ doped GdLiF4 (GLF) has been demonstrated for both pulsed and cw laser pumped operation. A slope efficiency of 60% was obtained in either manner of operation. The spectroscopic properties and laser performance of Nd:GLF are very similar to those of Nd:YLF. GLF, on the other hand, can be doped with much higher Nd3+ concentration

    Note on Tests of the Factorization Hypothesis and the Determination of Meson Decay Constants

    We discuss various tests of the factorization hypothesis making use of the close relationship between semi-leptonic and factorized nonleptonic decay amplitudes. It is pointed out that factorization leads to truely model-independent predictions for the ratio of nonleptonic to semi-leptonic decay rates, if in the nonleptonic decay a spin one meson of arbitrary mass or a pion take the place of the lepton pair. Where the decay constants of those mesons are known, these predictions represent ideal tests of the factorization hypothesis. In other cases they may be used to extract the decay constants. Currently available data on the decays Bˉ0→D+π−, D∗+π−, D+ϱ−, D∗+ϱ−\bar B^0 \to D^+\pi^-,\, D^{*+}\pi^-,\, D^+\varrho^-,\, D^{*+}\varrho^- are shown to be in excellent agreement with the factorization results. A weighted average of the four independent values for the QCD coefficient a1a_1 extracted from the data gives a1=1.15±0.06a_1=1.15\pm 0.06 suggesting that it may be equal to the Wilson coefficient c1(μ)c_1(\mu) evaluated at the scale μ=mb\mu = m_b.Comment: (9 pages, ReVTeX, no figures), HD-THEP-92-3

    Charge carrier localization induced by excess Fe in the Fe1+y(Te,Se) superconductor system

    We have investigated the effect of Fe nonstoichiometry on properties of the Fe1+y(Te, Se) superconductor system by means of resistivity, Hall coefficient, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat measurements. We find that the excess Fe at interstitial sites of the (Te, Se) layers not only suppresses superconductivity, but also results in a weakly localized electronic state. We argue that these effects originate from the magnetic coupling between the excess Fe and the adjacent Fe square planar sheets, which favors a short-range magnetic order.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures accepted for publication in PR
