Exploring new ways of working using virtual research environments in library and information science
Electronic Journals Using Guide
This paper considers the use of the Guide hypertext system for electronic journal provision. The feasibility of providing appropriate tools for journal users with Guide is illustrated by discussing features developed for indexing, searching, annotating, saving and printing journal components. The use of Guide's logical objects or it contexts is central to the development of a useful interface for browsing and reading journals. A prototype Guide electronic journal incorporating these tools is described
Electronic journals using Acrobat, Mosaic and Guide
This paper considers some of the issues affecting the use and readability of electronic journals. These issues are considered in relation to prototype electronic journals implemented using Adobe Acrobat, the Mosaic browser for the World Wide Web and the Guide hypertext system. The potential of each system as a vehicle for electronic journal provision is discussed

Learning to be an information architect
This article describes a recently introduced module at University
College Dublin School of Information and Library Studies (SILS),
entitled Information Architecture: Designing the Web. The module
provides students with a realistic experience of how information
architects apply their skills to produce usable web sites, via a project
to produce a documented Virtual Research Environment for information
architecture researchers. The article discusses the importance of both
information architecture and Virtual Research Environments to LIS
education and explains how the module achieves its aims.Author has checked copyrightAD 05/02/201
